
Rainy season brings back plant swap in Jaipur
Jaipur's conscious and aware citizens know the importance of a green world. So to promote sustainability and green space, and spread awareness, a unique plant swap was organised at Central Park.
The event, on a rainy Sunday afternoon, witnessed plant lovers, fellow gardeners gathering in huge numbers to exchange plants, saplings and seeds and make their garden greener and richer.
There was a huge variety of plants like portulaca, purslane, Mexican petunia, bottle palm, adenium, that were exchanged. Plant lovers from different parts of the city came with a lot of enthusiasm to participate in the event. Sunil Joshi, plant-enthusiast and an expert came all the way from Sikar to be a part of it.
He not only distributed a variety of plants, saplings and cuttings but also shared valuable insight about plant care with fellow plant lovers.
Shared Joshi, "Gone are the days when selection of plants was made only for landscaping purposes. Now they are being used to purify the environment. And I am glad that more and more people are becoming aware of it. I desperately wait for the event so that I can share plants with other plant enthusiasts and contribute to saving the environment."
Neelam, one of the co-organiser of the event said, "We keep organising plant swap events and people love to attend them. For a sustainable lifestyle we need more green space. And there is no better way but to exchange and distribute plants."

Joshi lauded the Fire and Emergency Services of the archipelago for its commitment to professional excellence and disaster preparedness. He said that the recognition by NFSC is not only a testament to the department's rising stature but also a reflection of its significant contribution in enhancing national fire safety standards, a statement issued by the police said. The STC in Port Blair is the 11th such NFSC-recognised training institute across India. The inauguration programme was held in presence of Chief Secretary Dr Chandra Bhushan Kumar, DGP Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IGP (Fire) Sindhu Pillai A and other senior officials. The DGP emphasised that this milestone significantly raises the profile of the A&N Fire and Emergency Services at the national level. Last rites of DNA-identified crash victims complete
Ahmedabad: On Tuesday, Civil Hospital authorities carried out the last rites of the mortal remains of AI 171 airplane crash victims. These were the remains found at the crash site or in the debris and were in addition to the first round of the handover of the remains, said officials. Dr Rakesh Joshi, medical superintendent of Civil Hospital, said that a total of 26 mortal remains were identified after the first round of the handover of remains to the relatives. "They were matched with the DNA records of the passengers and crew members, and the family members were approached to seek their approval for the last rites. Out of the total, seven families received the second set of remains for performing the last rites, whereas 19 consented to the hospital carrying out the rites," said Dr Joshi. Out of the 19, 18 remains were of Hindu victims. Last rites were performed at the Vadaj crematorium by following all religious rituals, and their ashes immersed in the Sabarmati at Narayan Ghat in Shahibaug. Likewise, the mortal remains of one Muslim victim were laid to rest at a cemetery near Civil Hospital in the presence of a maulvi, said officials.
