Pakistan Champions reach WCL final after India forfeit semifinal
The high-profile match was set to take place on Thursday at Edgbaston Cricket Ground. However, the Indian Champions, featuring former international stars such as Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, and Harbhajan Singh, opted out of the fixture in protest, reiterating their stance against participating in any cricket match involving Pakistan due to the current geopolitical situation and prevailing tensions, The Hindu reported.
This is the second time India have refused to play against Pakistan during the ongoing tournament. A similar decision was taken during the group stage, leading to the cancellation of that match as well.
India's withdrawal automatically propels Pakistan to the final, as per tournament regulations.
Separately, in a statement shared on social media, Nishant Pitti, co-founder of tournament sponsor EaseMyTrip, announced it would not be associated with the India vs Pakistan match.
'Some things are bigger than sport. Nation first, business later. Always,' Pitti wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
India Champions qualified for the semifinal after a dominant performance against West Indies Champions on Tuesday, chasing down the target in just 13.2 overs. Pakistan, meanwhile, have been among the tournament's strongest sides, securing top position in the group stage.

Kudos to him," Gill said after his team did a lap of honour. The amount of effort from both teams to end up here 2-2 is incredible," he told reporters. "The heart and passion and everything that was shown, especially in our second bowling innings, I thought was outstanding." Stokes, who scored a century and completed a five-wicket haul in the drawn fourth Test against India, said England had been well on top at various times in the final game under the captaincy of Ollie Pope. "We got ourselves into some good positions throughout the Test match, not just the last innings," he said. "To come within seven runs of victory, it's tough to look back and feel anything but disappointment." Stokes felt the loss of Chris Woakes to a shoulder injury on the first day had been a crucial factor. The all-rounder did come out to bat with a sling on to try to get England over the line but his absence along with that of Stokes and Jofra Archer left England with an inexperienced pace attack.

De Villiers breaks silence on IPL comeback
Former South African batting star AB de Villiers on Sunday ruled out any chances of reversing his retirement to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL), stating that the tournament is very long and requires a three-month commitment, something he is not ready for at his age. Speaking on a YouTube podcast, when asked whether he would consider making a comeback to the IPL like MS Dhoni, who continues to play at the age of 44, de Villiers dismissed the comparison, saying: "I'll be too nervous. I think I'd rather just support. I'm a very good supporter. The IPL is just very long, and it's a three-month tournament. It's a really big commitment for someone at the age of 41," de Villiers said.
