From The Hindu, June 30, 1975: ‘Slide teaching' may revolutionise education
New Delhi, June 29: A revolution in education is in the offing with the development of an indigenous technology for the large-scale preparation of teaching aids by the Indian Registry of Pathology (IRP) in New Delhi.
Originally developed for teaching pathology in medical colleges, the development can be adapted for the teaching of any subject in schools and colleges, it is said.
The IRP technology essentially consists in the presentation of teaching material in slides. IRP is now producing black and white colour slides of autopsy specimens, whole disease organs, charts, formulas and tables as teaching material for medical students, Dr. S. Sriramachari, Director of the Registry, said.
The impact on education of the 'slide technology' will be tremendous, it is said, because IRP's methods for mass-producing colour transparencies at an extremely low cost is based on the ordinary Eastman cinematographic film.
So far slides have been made with conventional colour film like 'Kodachrome and Ektachrome at a cost of over Rs. 4 per slide. IRP slides cost less than 40 paise each.
'The use of cinematographic film for this purpose has ushered in a virtual technological revolution,' Dr. Sriramachari said.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has expressed interest in the IRP technology for making educational slides. What would take 15 minutes to draw on the blackboard can be shown in one slide, Dr. Sriramachari said.

‘Medisep beneficiaries can approach consumer forum'
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Beneficiaries of Medisep, the health insurance programme for Kerala government employees and pensioners, are free to approach the consumer disputes redressal commission, the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (SCDRC) has ruled. The commission rejected the argument by the Oriental Insurance Company, insurance provider of Medisep, that complaints against the scheme should be submitted to the Medisep Grievance Redressal mechanism before approaching the consumer commission. The case pertained to a petition filed by a 78-year-old retired headmaster before the Ernakulam district commission. He challenged the rejection of a claim for Rs 2.16 lakh which he spent on heart treatment. Oriental challenged the maintainability of the petition, citing that the beneficiary should have approached the grievance redressal cell first. The district commission rejected Oriental's argument, following which the company filed an appeal before the state commission. The SCDRC bench, comprising its president Justice B Sudheendra Kumar and judicial member Ajith Kumar D, considered the appeal. It observed that Section 100 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, provides that the provisions in the act are in 'addition to and not in derogation' of the provisions of any other law. Therefore, the commission has jurisdiction over complaints relating to Medisep claims, it said.

Addressing the valedictory session of the Industrial Innovation and Technology Expo (IITEX) 2025, organised by the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) at HITEX on Sunday, the Minister highlighted Telangana's focused efforts to transform into a global innovation hub. 'In the first quarter of the current financial year, Telangana's Index of Industrial Production (IIP) recorded a Compound Monthly Growth Rate (CMGR) of 2.9%, far surpassing the national average of just 0.52%. The state's Gross State Value Added (GSVA) from industry touched Rs 2.77 lakh crore in 2024–25. We also witnessed growth of 15.6% in power consumption, 9.8% in GST collections, and 13.9% in payroll enrollments—all of which point to robust industrial momentum.' 'Contrary to misinformation that industries are moving out of Telangana, the truth is the opposite: In just the last 18 months, we have attracted over Rs 3 lakh crore in investments, including Rs 40,000 crore in the Life Sciences sector alone. We have launched 150 new projects, creating employment for over 51,000 people directly and 1.5 lakh people indirectly,' the Minister said.
