Colegio de San Juan de Letran and Arellano University aim to topple twice-to-beat teams De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and Mapua University for tickets to the NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball finals.
Letran and Benilde will face off on Friday at 12:00 p.m., while Arellano and Mapua will battle at 2:30 p.m. at the Filoil Centre in San Juan.
Last Sunday, the Knights swept the top-seeded Blazers, 25-17, 25-23, 25-23, with Bembem Bautista and Vince Himzon leading no. 4 team Letran.
Letran head coach Bryan Esquibel said they will still rely on defense as they take on the Blazers anew.
"Same pa rin ang magiging paghahanda natin, kailangan pa nating pagpursigihan ang net blocking and floor defense kasi doon manggagaling ang magandang atake and ma-minimize natin ang error." Esquibel said.
Bautista had 17 points from 15 attacks and two blocks, while Himzon had 12 points.
Benilde's top scorer Rocky Roy Motol, meanwhile, was limited to eight points then with John Austero posting a team-high 11 points.
The third-seeded Chiefs, meanwhile, hope to return to the Finals for the first time since 2018.
"Ang usapan namin sa training, ang mindset namin is one point at a time lang muna. Kung pupuntos kami, dapat trabahuhin namin," Arellano head coach Brian Vitug said.
Before making a Finals return, the Chiefs need to beat the no. 2 team Cardinals first.
In their Final Four match last Tuesday, Arellano defeated Mapua, 21-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-13.
AC Guinto had 19 points, while Carl Berdal had 13 points in the crucial match. Jiwen Sinuto and Jake Pangilinan also came to the rescue for the Chiefs with 11 points apiece as Adrian Villados made all of Arellano's 19 excellent sets.
The Chiefs survived Barbie San Andres' 23-point outing for Mapua.
The winner of the two matches will advance to the Finals which will open on Sunday.

(Photos: AsiaBasket/FB) Colegio de San Juan de Letran and San Beda University are marching to the semifinals of the Asiabasket 2025 International Invitational after escaping separate foes in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. The Knights outlasted the Formosa King Tigers with a narrow 104-100 win behind a near double-double outing from big man Kevin Santos, who posted 19 points together with nine rebound, three blocks, one assist, and one steal to power the quarterfinal victory. A Santos layup late in the first quarter sent the Knights to a huge 20-point lead at 35-15, but the visiting club slowly crawled its way back as Tseng Hsiang Weii converted a basket that trimmed their deficit to three, 96-99, in the final 1:11 of the fourth. Santos then provided the timely baskets, sinking a pair of free throws before throwing down a dunk that saw Letran taking a crucial 103-96 lead with 41 ticks left. Luis Tapenio shone as well with 15 points, six rebounds, and two assists while Jimboy Estrada and Deo Cuajao chipped in 10 and nine markers apiece. Meanwhile, San Beda eked out a 68-58 win against United Prep Canada behind the tandem of Bryan Sajonia and Yuki Andrada. Sajonia led the charge with a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds laced with four assists, two steals, and one block while the graduating Andrada churned out 16 markers, two boards, one dime, and one block. Letran and San Beda will now cross paths with UAAP teams with the Knights facing Adamson University and the Red Lions squaring off with University of Santo Tomas both on Thursday. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

JM Bravo forgoes final year with LPU, looks to turn pro

JM Bravo is officially moving on from collegiate basketball, opting to skip his final year with Lyceum of the Philippines University as he looks to take the leap into the professional ranks. The 6-foot-3 forward bared his decision to GMA News Online on Tuesday, saying it is a decision he is making for his family. He ends a four-year stint with the Pirates that saw him help the squad reach the Final Four round for three consecutive years. "Maraming salamat Lyceum of the Philippines University Manila sa 4 na taon sa pag tulong at supporta lalo na mga LPU Community, Coaches and Teammates," Bravo said in an Instagram post. "And Buong pasalamat ko sa mga Boss Laurel Family and Lopez Family. Hanggang sa Muli!" Bravo's final season with the Pirates in NCAA Season 100 was marked by personal challenges. Early in the season, he was initially ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to the spinal injury he sustained in their 95-93 loss to San Sebastian College-Recoletos last September 11. Bravo then had an unexpected comeback early in the second round to provide some veteran presence alongside John Barba, Mclaude Guadaña, Gyle Montaño, and Greg Cunanan, rejoining the squad exactly a month after. ?After two games, however, he collapsed on the floor late in their 91-86 loss to Arellano University on October 19 at the FilOil EcoOil Centre, but Bravo braved through it as well and was still able to finish the season as LPU bowed to eventual champion Mapua University in the Final Four. —JMB, GMA Integrated News ?

Clippers president: Team 'strongly considering' reunion with Chris Paul

Eight years after leaving the Los Angeles Clippers, Chris Paul could potentially rejoin the franchise that he helped reinvigorate. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Lawrence Frank, the Clippers president of basketball operations, said that the organization is "strongly considering" bringing back the Point God on the heels of signing Bradley Beal. Beal agreed to a two-year, $11 million contract with Los Angeles following a contract buyout with the Phoenix Suns. With Beal now on the roster, the 20-year veteran Paul, who is a free agent, could make his return to the Clippers. "What I'd say about Chris is he's a great player," Frank said when asked if the Clippers will sing Pual. "He's a great Clipper. He obviously possesses some of the qualities we [are looking for]. And, of course, we're strongly, strongly considering him." Paul joined Los Angeles leading up the 2011-12 season, ultimately guiding the Clippers to at least 51 wins in five of his six seasons there. As a franchise, Los Angeles has won 50 or more games just seven times. He ranks first in franchise history with 4,023 assists and 2.2 steals per game. The Clippers, though, never advanced beyond the Western Conference semifinals with Paul at the helm. In his career, Paul has reached the NBA Finals just once (in 2021 with the Phoenix Suns) and appeared in the conference finals twice, including in 2018 as a member of the Houston Rockets. With Beal now a Clipper -- as well as the signings of John Collins and Brook Lopez and re-signing of James Harden -- perhaps Paul could help Los Angeles advance to the franchise's first Finals appearance. A 12-time All-Star, Paul has been named All-NBA 11 times, including four times as a first-team selection -- three while with the Clippers. He has averaged 17 points and 9.2 assists throughout his Hall of Fame career, which has spanned seven teams, most recently with the San Antonio Spurs this past season. He has also averaged two steals per contest, which ranks 13th all-time in NBA history. —Field Level Media/Reuters
