Tom Cruise to receive honorary Oscar in career first - Screens - Arts & Culture
US actor and film producer Tom Cruise will receive an honorary Oscar ahead of the 2026 Academy Awards, the organizers said Tuesday, marking a career first for the Hollywood veteran.
Cruise was selected to receive a statuette for his contributions to cinema, along with choreographer Debbie Allen and production designer Wynn Thomas.
Dolly Parton will also be awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her decades-long humanitarian work, with the trophies presented at the Academy's 16th Governors Awards event in November.
Cruise, 62, has had four Oscar nominations but has never won the prestigious prize, despite achieving global fame for his roles in action films "Mission: Impossible" and "Top Gun."
"Tom Cruise's incredible commitment to our filmmaking community, to the theatrical experience, and to the stunts community has inspired us all," the Academy said in a statement.
It praised him as "one of the most recognized and highest-grossing actors of all time" and noted his commitment to performing all of his own stunts.
Allen, 75, was recognized for her five-decade career that has included choreographing the Academy Awards ceremony seven times and working on films including 1995 rom-com "Forget Paris."
Meanwhile, Thomas was saluted for his production work on titles such as "Malcolm X" and "Do the Right Thing."

Ruby to hold concerts in the Netherlands, France - Music - Arts & Culture
Egyptian actress and singer Ruby will hold two concerts in the Netherlands and France in October. Ruby will perform at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht, Netherlands, on 11 October, followed by a performance in Paris on 12 October. This will be the first time the singer takes the stage in both countries. She made her first significant appearance in Yousef Chahine's film, "Silence"....We're Rolling (2001). In parallel, she launched her singing career with the single Enta Aref Eih (What Do You Know) in 2003. The music video was shot in Prague, presenting Ruby belly dancing on the streets. Over the years, Ruby has released several albums and singles. She appeared in numerous TV ads while continuing to work in films and television series. In recent years, she starred in the television series This Is What Went Down (2019) and Mrs. Mayor (2023), as well as the film Mommies Group (2023). Kate Winslet Exits Hulu Series "The Spot"
Yara Sameh Oscar and Emmy winner Kate Winslet is no longer involved in Hulu drama series "The Spot". Winslet was attached as star and executive producer to the project, from creator/executive producer Ed Solomon and A24. The show, in a very competitive situation, landed at Hulu last August with a straight-to-series order. According to sources, the reasons behind her exit from the project are creative and related, at least in part, to how the show's evolution has impacted the required approach to the role. Conversations are underway with other A-list actresses, and production is still targeting a 2026 start once the role is recast. Created and written by Solomon, who will serve as showrunner, "The Spot" follows a successful surgeon — the role that is now being recast — and her school teacher husband who suspects she might be responsible for a child's hit-and-run death. While looking into the matter, dark secrets are revealed that will test their relationship as they confront the possibility of hidden guilt and betrayal. Egyptian-Canadian actor Mena Massoud visits children's cancer hospital
Local media shared a series of photos capturing the Aladdin star interacting with young patients. During the visit, Massoud spoke with children, their families, and hospital staff. He expressed his deep appreciation for the experience, emphasizing that supporting sick children is a human duty before it is a media responsibility. Massoud's official statement reads: 'My visit to Hospital 57357 was one of the most moving moments of my life. These children are true heroes, and just being among them gives me a different kind of energy. I'm proud that such a medical institution exists in my home country, Egypt, and I'm happy that I was able to be a part of their day.' Mena Massoud Born to Egyptian parents and raised in Canada, Massoud began his acting career in Canadian cinema and television. He appeared in Nikita (2011–2013), playing a member of Al-Qaeda, and had roles in Combat Hospital (2011) as well as the Canadian-American series Open Heart (2015). In 2014, he starred in the Canadian short comedy Americanistan, portraying a character named Mohammed Ali. He went on to take leading roles in Canadian films, including the short drama Final Exam (2017) and the drama-mystery Ordinary Days (2017). He was also cast in Strange but True. Massoud broke into Hollywood with a starring role in Aladdin, opposite Will Smith and Naomi Scott. Directed by Guy Ritchie, the film was shortlisted for Best Original Song at the 92nd Academy Awards, though it was not ultimately nominated. Aladdin performed well at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards, winning several categories, and also received the Favorite Family Movie award at the 2019 People's Choice Awards. The film is an adaptation of the popular tale Alaa El-Din and the Magic Lamp, one of the stories from the 18th-century collection Alf Laila wi Laila (Arabian Nights). Following Aladdin, Massoud appeared in a short video with Will Smith titled Friend Like Me, as well as in the TV series Reprisal. His more recent work includes roles in films such as Wish You Were Here, The Sacrifice Game, and The Royal Treatment, as well as TV series like Evolving Vegan and History of the World: Part II, among others. He recently completed filming In Broad Daylight, his first project shot in Egypt, in which he plays a young Egyptian caught up in an international mafia.
