Return Flights for Egyptian Tourism Pilgrims Underway from Jeddah Following Hajj 1446H
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has begun the repatriation of Egyptian tourism pilgrims following the completion of Hajj rituals for the 1446 Hijri season. Return flights officially commenced Monday from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
As of now, 28 flights have departed, carrying approximately 2,200 Egyptian pilgrims back home. The return operation will continue over the coming days, with additional flights scheduled from both King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah and Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport in Madinah. Land returns for pilgrims who traveled by road are also underway.
Samia Sami, Assistant Minister for Tourism Companies Affairs, Head of the Official Tourism Hajj Mission, and Chair of the Higher Committee for Hajj and Umrah, stated that a total of 33,172 pilgrims from the tourism sector are expected to return via air this season.
She added that tourism companies began transferring pilgrims from Mina to Mecca two days ago in preparation for the Farewell Tawaf, marking the end of their Hajj journey. Return flights are being organized in phases to ensure the safe and orderly return of all pilgrims.
Sami praised the high level of organization during this year's tourism Hajj, highlighting the successful implementation of transport and logistics plans for moving pilgrims to the holy sites in accordance with official guidelines.
To facilitate the repatriation process, two subcommittees from the tourism Hajj mission have been deployed at the Jeddah and Madinah airports to oversee the return flights and provide necessary support to ensure the comfort and safety of all pilgrims.
Meanwhile, other ministry teams stationed across Saudi Arabia continue to monitor the repatriation operations around the clock. They are also following up on the well-being of pilgrims still in Mecca and Madinah as they complete the final stages of their tourism programs before departure.

Egypt's first e-training platform for tourism and antiquities has been launched In a further step towards digital transformation and human capacity building, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities launched this week the country's first-ever electronic training platform dedicated to tourism and antiquities, EGTAP. The initiative is designed to offer a wide range of accredited and professional training programmes to enhance the skills and competencies of workers, students, and researchers in both sectors. The platform also supports the ministry's broader strategy of building qualified human resources capable of keeping pace with global changes and the adoption of modern technology in service delivery. The EGTAP platform features a rich and dynamic content library, offering diverse training modules, workshops, and certification programmes. Developed in collaboration with top academic and industry experts, the courses are tailored to meet the evolving needs of the public and private sectors. They also include continuous assessments for both trainers and trainees to ensure effective learning outcomes. The platform will undergo regular updates with new training content to align with sector needs, including topics like sustainable tourism, food safety, marketing, management, and hospitality. It currently provides free online courses and will soon offer additional recorded programmes across various disciplines. Upon successful completion, participants receive accredited electronic certificates. 'Developing human capacity is a cornerstone of improving service quality and boosting the competitiveness of Egypt's tourism sector,' Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy said. 'EGTAP is a pivotal step in leveraging digital technology to strengthen Egypt's tourism and antiquities sectors,' said Mohamed Shaaban, assistant to the minister for digital services. He added that platform users can create personal profiles and enrol in training courses suited to their professional and educational backgrounds. He added that EGTAP as a cutting-edge response to the evolving training demands of the tourism sector. Developed in partnership with the Egyptian Tourism Federation and other specialised agencies, the platform combines academic rigour with practical relevance, catering to diverse professional backgrounds and expertise. Ahmed Rahima, assistant to the minister for human resources and head of the ministry's Central Training Unit, underscored that EGTAP not only delivers training but also supports career path development and equal access to skill-building opportunities. It offers specialised programmes in archaeology, museums, human development, scientific research, arts and architecture, civilisation and history, excavation sciences, and entrepreneurship. He said that the platform aligns with Egypt Vision 2030, particularly the focus on sustainable development and investing in human resources. Tourism remains central to Egypt's economy, contributing an estimated USD 32.2 billion in 2024, or about 8.1% of the country's GDP. Egypt also welcomed a record 15.7 million international visitors in 2024, a notable increase from the previous year.

Egypt launches photography competition to promote underwater cultural heritage - Tourism
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has launched a photography competition to raise public awareness of Egypt's rich underwater cultural heritage. The competition, which begins Friday, 1 August, invites participants to capture artistic images of artefacts that emerged from the Mediterranean Sea and are currently on display at the Graeco-Roman Museum and the Alexandria National Museum in Alexandria. It comes in light of Egypt's efforts to highlight its submerged archaeological treasures aligning with its commitment to the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage. 'The competition is part of broader efforts to engage the public with Egypt's diverse heritage and to promote appreciation for historical finds recovered from beneath the Mediterranean,' said Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy. He added that this initiative reflects the ministry's ongoing dedication to enhancing awareness and appreciation of underwater cultural heritage and to showcasing Egypt's unique archaeological assets to the world. According to Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), the competition is one of several cultural events planned by the ministry to shed light on submerged heritage sites and artefacts. Full competition details and updates will be published on the ministry's official social media platforms. He continued that the photographers in Egypt and abroad are eligible to participate, with a photography window open from August 1 to 10 August, during the official operating hours of both museums in Alexandria. Submissions must be sent to [email protected] by Thursday, 14 August, and must include the photograph along with a short biography of the participant. Photos will be evaluated by a specialized jury comprising university professors and experts in photography and archaeology. The panel will operate under the supervision of the competition's technical secretariat. Ahmed Rahima, Assistant Minister for Human Resources Development and Head of the Central Training Unit, explained that evaluation criteria will focus on technical quality, creativity, and the ability to highlight the aesthetic and historical value of the featured artefacts. The names of the winners will be announced on 18 August, with an official award ceremony scheduled for 21 August. The ministry has extended an open invitation to both Egyptian and international photography enthusiasts to take part in this unique cultural initiative, which blends art, history, and heritage preservation.
