The new Twingo will be revealed next year, having gone from concept to production in just 21 months. Sub-brand Dacia will push things even further, slashing a car's development time to just 16 months. Provost said this new-found speed will ensure the 'acceleration of [the Renault Group's] transformation' over the next few years.
New-car development times usually range from two to five years – with Chinese disruptors applying pressure on European manufacturers to quicken the period from initial concept to start of production. In his first media Q&A, Provost told Auto Express that his firm's ability to transform these times will be a 'key performance trigger' in the short to medium term, as it continues to invest in new models. The benefits are multi-faceted. The new boss said reducing development times is 'quicker, smarter and less expensive,' and brings 'innovation quicker to the customer' – suggesting Renault wants to keep its products competitive in a way it has struggled to in the past.
This shift of mindset won't only apply to facelifted models, or those on an existing product architecture, with Provost insisting Renault has to apply this attitude 'to all projects,' with one of his main aims in the early days of his tenure being to implement this 'in France, in Europe, in [Renault's] ecosystem'.
Elsewhere, however, Provost and his team have refused to turn former CEO Luca de Meo's well-defined strategy on its head, prioritising 'value over volume'. Jean-Dominique Senard, Renault's chairman of the board of directors, said the plan is to maintain 'strategic manoeuverability' and 'embody some kind of continuity, but with open eyes: understanding what needs to be changed and what needs to be maintained'.

Price hikes are music to the ears of Spotify investors - but UK subscribers won't be hit
Spotify shares rallied yesterday as the streaming giant announced price hikes in multiple countries – but not in the UK. The Swedish music platform's stock jumped 5 per cent in New York after raising its Premium subscriptions, which allow customers to listen advert-free to music on their phones and computers. Spotify's shares are up almost 50 per cent this year. Price rises will be introduced across South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. For example, in Sweden, the monthly rate is up from £9.26 to £10.03. But not in the UK, whose stars, such as Dua Lipa, have amassed millions of listeners. British fans last saw a price rise in April last year – from £10.99 a month to £11.99. Global subscribers have risen 12 per cent to 276m, while sales rose 10 per cent to £3.6billion.

Jaguar replaces 'woke' chief: Tata CFO PB Balaji to take over in November after rebrand backfires
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has appointed a new boss less than a week after its previous chief executive announced plans to retire following a 'woke' rebrand. The British carmaker said PB Balaji, chief financial officer of parent company Tata Motors, will take over in November. He will replace Adrian Mardell, who last week said he would leave after just over two years. The exit follows a contentious rebrand last year which saw JLR axe its 'growler' badge and unveil an advert featuring diverse models – but no cars. The decision prompted a barrage of criticism, including from US president Donald Trump, who said JLR was 'in absolute turmoil' and branded its rebrand 'stupid, and seriously woke'. 'Who wants to buy a Jaguar after looking at that disgraceful ad,' Trump wrote on Truth Social.
