MDA carries out eviction drive on 8.28 acre of land near Outer Ring Road
Amid heavy police security, the MDA personnel deployed earthmovers to clear the 4.36 acre of land on survey number 108 and 3.32 acre on survey number 109 in Basavanahalli village of Mysuru taluk that had been acquired for developing Vijaynagar 4th Stage.
The MDA reclaimed the land despite resistance by land owners. According to the MDA, the land measuring 8.28 acre had been acquired for developing the Vijaynagar 4th stage extension through a preliminary notification issued on December 23, 1991 and final notification on December 10, 1992.
The award money of ₹4,55,506 finalised on August 6, 1994, had been deposited in the court on March 5, 2002.
The land owners had moved the court for dropping the acquisition as the layout project was not implemented, but the High Court had ruled in favour of the Authority, said MDA secretary Prasanna.
The eviction drive was carried out after the MDA Zone 3 officer submitted report that two houses had been built on the acquired land, while gravel and timber had been dumped illegally.

Death of Class 8 student: CBI report rules out suspicion of sexual assault
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CBI team that probed the suspicious death of a 13-year-old girl, who was found lying in the bathroom of her residence located in the police quarters here in March 2023, has filed a report before the Pocso Special Court ruling out the doubt that she could've been raped. The CBI report also suggested that the Class 8 student might have died of natural causes. The girl was found lying in an unconscious state in the bathroom on March 30. She died on April 1 in a hospital while undergoing treatment. The Museum police had registered a case under sections of Pocso Act after the police forensic surgeon expressed doubts that she could've been raped. The case was later handed over to the CBI by the High Court after the crime branch failed to make any headway in investigation. The CBI had earlier formed a medical board to examine the doubts expressed by the police surgeon. The board has assessed that the girl had suffered head injuries earlier and that could be the reason bleeding occurred from her private parts.

Ahead of Nuh yatra, administration says ready to ensure peace; cow vigilante Bittu Bajarangi seeks participation
Ahead of the Braj Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra scheduled for July 14, the district and police administration in Haryana's Nuh Wednesday held a meeting with members of peace committees, sarpanches and panchayat representatives from various villages to ensure a peaceful and harmonious procession. Meanwhile, cow vigilante Bittu Bajarangi, who has been banned from the yatra after he was made an accused in the 2023 Nuh communal clashes, has claimed he has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking permission to participate. 'I am a citizen and believer in Sanatan, not a terrorist or notorious criminal that I should be stopped. If the High Court says no, we will see and comply,' Bajrangi told The Indian Express. A police spokesperson said they are not aware of any such development as of now, but have received a similar representation so far from a 'gau rakshak' group. On Wednesday, Vishram Kumar Meena, Deputy Commissioner, Nuh, and Rajesh Kumar, Superintendent of Police, held the meeting to ensure a successful, safe, and harmonious yatra. Unlike last year, when mobile internet was banned as a precautionary measure to prevent clashes, Meena said there are no such plans as of now. 'There is no plan for any ban. The yatra will be conducted peacefully. We have been meeting and coordinating with peace committees,' Meena told The Indian Express. Meena said peace, harmony, and cooperation are key to holding such large events in a foolproof manner. He added that the religious procession is a symbol of public faith and trust, and it is the collective responsibility of all to conduct it with dignity, peace, and brotherhood. He urged panchayat representatives to cooperate with the administration in maintaining social harmony in their respective areas, and to immediately report any rumours or anti-social activities to authorities. The Nuh deputy commissioner said parking facilities will be arranged at various locations for the convenience of devotees participating in the yatra on July 14, from where they will be transported to Nallhareshwar Temple by buses. He said the district administration is fully vigilant and proactive, with necessary instructions issued to all relevant departments. Nuh SP Kumar said the district police will remain fully prepared to maintain law and order. 'Additional forces will be deployed in sensitive areas, with complete monitoring of all routes, route marches, and other security measures ensured,' he said. He appealed to residents and participants not to spread or allow others to spread misleading or provocative content on social media, or believe in rumours and unverified information. 'If anyone does not cooperate in this regard, they should inform the district and police administration immediately.' A district administration spokesperson said that the panchayat representatives present at the meeting assured the administration of their full cooperation, including their opposition to any anti-social activities. Meena and Kumar also inspected the designated route for the Jalabhishek Yatra, and directed officials to ensure safety, cleanliness, traffic management, essential emergency services along the route, apart from ensuring police deployment, drone camera surveillance, and crowd management. In 2023, violence had broken out during the yatra, during which six people, including Bajrang Dal members and a cleric at a mosque in Gurgaon, were killed.

2020 Delhi riots: Accused should be in jail till they are acquitted or convicted, police tell HC
The Delhi Police on Wednesday urged the High Court to deny bail to those accused of being part of a 'larger conspiracy' linked to the 2020 Delhi riots, claiming that they tried to defame the country in an orchestrated manner, PTI reported. 'If you are doing something against your nation then you better be in jail till you are acquitted or convicted,' Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the police, told a bench of Justices Naveen Chawla and Shalinder Kaur, according to the agency. Mehta told the court that this was not an ordinary case, where those accused of a crime could argue that they should be released on bail since they had been incarcerated for a long time. 'In cases involving anti-national activities, long incarceration is not a factor,' the solicitor general was quoted as saying by The Indian Express. 'This is an attack on the sovereignty of the country. By attacking the National Capital, it would have an effect on the entire country. Mehta alleged that the accused persons tried to promote communal narratives by forming a WhatsApp group named 'Muslim students of JNU" [Jawaharlal Nehru University'. He claimed that former JNU students Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid, by doing so, 'broke the secular fabric' of the university, PTI reported. The solicitor general referred to an allegedly inflammatory speech that Imam made during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. 'The intention was to cause national embarrassment at a global level,' Mehta alleged, according to PTI. 'February 24, 2020 was the date when the US President was to visit. Sharjeel Imam delivers a speech four weeks before this clearly indicating the timeline for execution of conspiracy. He says we have four weeks.' In his speeches, Imam had purportedly asked the protestors to 'cut off Assam from India' by occupying the 'Muslim-dominated Chicken's Neck'. The comment was widely perceived as secessionist, but Imam had later claimed that he had called for peaceful protests to 'block roads going to Assam' – 'basically a call for chakka jam'. The High Court bench of Justices Naveen Chawla and Shalinder Kaur on Wednesday reserved its judgement on the bail petitions of Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Gulfisha Fatima, Mohd Saleem Khan, Shifa ur Rehman, Athar Khan and Khalid Saifi. Another bench of Justices Subramonium Prasad and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar reserved the bail petition of Tasleem Ahmed. The bench of Justices Chawla and Kaur will hear the petition of a ninth accused person, Shadab Ahmed, on Thursday. Clashes had broken out in North East Delhi in February 2020 between supporters of the Citizenship Amendment Act and those opposing it. The violence left 53 dead and hundreds injured. The Delhi Police has claimed that the violence was part of a larger conspiracy to defame the Narendra Modi government and was plotted by those who organised the protests against the contentious citizenship law. Imam, however, told the court in December that he did not call for violence in any of the speeches he gave during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
