Aussie cricket legend Matthew Hayden leaves fans in shock with his bizarre fashion sense

Daily Mail12-06-2025
Aussie cricket legend Matthew Hayden was a talking point at Lord's during the World Test Championship - and it had nothing to do with his commentary.
Hayden, 53, rocked his trademark Stetson hat when Pat Cummins ' men took on South Africa on day one of the World Test Championship final on Wednesday.
The decorated batsman - who is yet to comment publicly about the piece of attire he proudly dons on his head - was ridiculed on social media in images showing him alongside Proteas great Hashim Amla and former English star Kevin Pietersen.
'What is Haydos wearing,' asked one fan on Instagram.
'Is Haydos from Texas,' joked another.
The popular Facebook page Cricket Related Simpson Quotes also poked fun at Hayden, suggesting he was sporting a hidden camera under the novelty-sized hat.
Meanwhile, Hayden was one of seven global stars recently inducted to the ICC Hall of Fame following his glittering career for Australia between 1993 and 2009.
With 30 Test centuries and a batting average of 50.73, Hayden's outstanding numbers in the traditional format of the game speak for themselves.
The left-hander was just as adept in the 50-over game, with Hayden smashing three centuries alone at the 2007 edition of the ICC men's Cricket World Cup to finish the tournament as the leading run-scorer.
It was the second of two World Cup titles Hayden helped Australia win.
Hayden was thrilled to receive the induction.
'The ICC Hall of Fame includes many of my heroes of yesteryear as well as contemporaries whom I admired and enjoyed competing against,' he said.
'Each of these players gave something to the game in their own way. It is incredible to be recognised along with them.'
His daughter Grace also took to Facebook to toast the achievement.
'To say I'm proud would be understatement,' her post began.
'But the man I knew was just my Dad. The big soft teddy bear that gave every part of himself to his family.

Move over, Dickie! Meet Channel Nine's rising new star anchor who could take Richard Wilkins' job - and the ladies are already swooning

It appears that Channel Nine could have a rising star on its hands. Aspiring TV presenter Chaad Hewitt caused quite a stir recently, when he made an appearance on the Today show. After wowing Karl Stefanovic with his anchor chops in a university assignment, Chaad found himself front and centre on the Today set recently. He shared a clip of his on-air experience that saw him stepping into the rather large shoes of Nine entertainment veteran Richard Wilkins. 'Today we found an aspiring entertainment journo and if you squint he looks like a young Richard Wilkins,' Karl said on air. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. A side-by-side photo was then shown on screen, highlighting the similarities between the pair. 'Somebody needs to do the math, because my mum worked at MTV in the '90s so what's going on there?' Chaad joked, referencing Richard's stint at the music television station. 'Who's your daddy?' Karl excitedly asked, which elicited quite the laugh from the rising star. Chaad was full of gratitude for his big television break. 'WHAT AN HONOUR to share my first full day of learning as an anchor with the team @thetodayshow,' he wrote on Instagram. 'I couldn't have asked for a more special experience with the amazing team and mentors. While sharing the stage in place of Dicky, this little moment caught us all off.' Despite Chaad's anchor gig only being temporary, it seems he has struck a chord with breakfast TV viewers. Karl commented on a clip of Chaad on air with: 'Loved having you, son,' to which one viewer replied: 'He needs to be a regular.' 'Today we found an aspiring entertainment journo and if you squint he looks like a young Richard Wilkins,' Karl said on air Another chimed in with: 'Never has there been a man more suited to the screen.' 'From now on, I love watching the news,' a third swooned. It looks as though Dickie might have to start looking over his shoulder, with Chaad already a triple threat. Aside from being an aspiring entertainment reporter, Chaad is also a model, after being discovered by Gold Coast agency Reel Management in 2020, and has since worked with the likes of BOSS and Polo Ralph Lauren. According to his LinkedIn profile, Chaad is also a budding actor, having hit the stage for the Queensland Drama Academy in Flood. He also nabbed a gig as actor Stacy Clausen's stand-in for the 2023 film True Spirit. Chaad recently revealed that his Today show stint all came about thanks to a university assignment. The second-year journalism student at Bond University posted an after-class exercise to social media that attracted half a million views. After seeing the video, Karl reached out with an offer for the rising star to appear on the show. 'Karl said, 'I want to bring you on the Today show'. To be honest with you, I thought he was joking… I didn't think he was being serious.' Turns out Karl was deadly serious with Chaad adding: 'Karl actually said, 'you can be the anchor!' In a matter of about two hours, they had everything sorted.' He also revealed that his Today cameo did the trick with the network, with Nine keen to stay in touch.

The Project's Georgie Tunny announces surprising new TV gig after show's axing

The Project's Georgie Tunny has announced her new gig following Channel Ten 's shock decision to axe the long-running news program. The 34-year-old revealed on Thursday she will be joining Ten's new current affairs program 10 News+. 'I've always been a fan of news delivered differently and am excited to be staying with the 10 family,' she told 'Can't wait to see where this new chapter leads!' 10 News+, hosted by recently poached Seven journalists Denham Hitchcock and Amelia Brace, made its debut on Monday night. It has received mixed reviews from viewers, with many sharing their thoughts on X. Several compared 10 News+ to A Current Affair with one posting: 'This is like ACA. Going to people's houses to talk and them avoiding the cameras.' 'You replaced The Project with a Temu ACA not seeing @theprojecttv is incredibly depressing. 10news+ sucks!' complained another viewer. Someone else said: 'This is proper @Channel7 style commercial JUNK. It's like watching a cross between Fox News and Anchorman. Why the silly 'news' voices!?' One more person tuning in at home asked: 'Anyone else bored so far?' while someone else said, 'please no more long investigation reports it's 6pm'. 'Oh dear. I thought I would give 10 News Plus a go.I feel like we have regressed 20 years! An inauthentic painfully choreographed attempt at current affairs!' one said. 'Dribble. Won't last the year' a viewer said with another adding, 'Felt like it was a Comedy Company parody from the 80s. The fist pump at the end? Yikes.' Not everyone was so negative with one fan writing: 'Loving @10NewsPlus - strong launch story. Is this the new Schapelle Corby story we all need to know about. 10 news should be very proud.' The first episode included an investigation on drug-smuggling Melbourne mum Debbie Voulgaris and a sit-down chat with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The Project aired its final episode last Friday night. It was announced last month that it would be pulled from the schedule after 16 years and more than 4,500 episodes. The Project hosts Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris and Hamish Macdonald are set to exit the network, while comedian Taunton will continue his guest appearances on other Ten shows.
