Former Juventus footballer passes away at 32
Nico Hidalgo, who was once on Juventus' books as a youngster, played for various clubs in Spain including Granada, Cadiz and Racing Santander.
Posting a heartfelt tribute to Hidalgo, a club statement from Cadiz read: 'Nico Hidalgo has left us.
'We will never forget your smile and your joy. Your struggle is our example. Rest in peace'.
A second tribute came in from another of his former clubs, Extremadura, who are now defunct.
It read: 'This morning we woke up to the sad news of the death of Nico Hidalgo, former Extremadura UD footballer, at the age of 32 due to lung cancer which he had been fighting since 2021.
'From [everyone at] CD Extremadura, we would like to express our deepest condolences to his family and friends. We send them all our love and strength in these difficult times.'
Racing Santander also released a post on their official website, in which they said they would hold a minute's silence in tribute to Hidalgo before their Segunda División match at home to Elche on Sunday night.
Hidalgo made 23 appearances for Extremadura in their former guise as Extremadura UD, before moving to Cadiz and later Racing.

Atletico Madrid to sign defender David Hancko after Al-Nassr reportedly backs out
Ammon News - Atletico Madrid has reached a deal to sign David Hancko after the defender reportedly was turned away by Al-Nassr when he arrived at the Saudi team's training camp. Atletico said on Wednesday it has an agreement with Dutch club Feyenoord for the transfer of the Slovak player. The deal was pending a medical, and financial details were not disclosed. Spanish and Dutch media said Feyenoord had originally reached an agreement with Al-Nassr for Hancko's transfer, but the Saudi team — where Cristiano Ronaldo plays — reportedly backed away at the last minute. The defender had already arrived in Austria, where Al-Nassr was training, but was told there by Al-Nassr that the deal fell apart. Atletico, which finished third in the La Liga last season, has been boosting its squad in recent weeks. It signed 22-year-old right back Marc Pubill from Almeria, 24-year-old Argentina international Thiago Almada from Brazilian club Botafogo, midfielder Álex Baena from Villarreal and 22-year-old Italian left back Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta. Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham undergoes shoulder injury
Ammon News - Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham underwent shoulder surgery Wednesday and was expected to miss the start of the upcoming season. The club said in a brief statement that the England international needed surgery 'to address recurrent dislocation of his left shoulder.' The procedure was 'successful,' it added. 'Bellingham will now undergo a period of rehabilitation, prior to returning to training and starting his recovery,' the club's statement said. Madrid did not say for how long Bellingham will be sidelined, but Spanish media reported he could be out two to three months. Madrid opens its La Liga campaign on Aug. 19 against Osasuna. He is also expected to miss some Champions League games and likely England's World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia in September. The 22-year-old Bellingham had been nursing the shoulder injury since 2023 but was delaying the surgery to avoid missing time with Madrid and England. He had been able to play while wearing a brace.

Real Madrid sign their former youth player Carreras from Benfica
Ammon News - Real Madrid have signed defender Alvaro Carreras from Benfica, the LaLiga club said on Monday, marking a return to the Spanish side for the 22-year-old after he previously spent three years at Real's academy. The Spanish left back, who played at the recent Club World Cup, has signed a six-year contract, for a reported fee of 50 million euros ($58.31 million), according to Spanish media. He becomes Real's third defensive signing during the close season, after Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen, as they look to strengthen a department which has suffered several injuries in recent seasons. Carreras left Real for Manchester United in 2020, mainly appearing with their Under-23 side, and while the Spaniard did receive call-ups to the senior squad he never made a senior appearance at the Premier League club. He had loan spells at Preston North End and Granada, before another loan move brought Carreras to Benfica in January 2024, making his debut for the Portuguese club one week later. Carreras made 11 league appearances for Benfica in those first few months in Portugal, and the club signed him on a permanent deal from United at the end of the season. Reuters
