Andhra govt cancels two Adani projects at companys request

Amaravati, Jul 28 (PTI) The Andhra Pradesh government has cancelled two Adani Green Energy Ltd's (AGEL) pumped hydro storage power projects (PSP)–1,200 MW Kurukutti and 1,000 MW Karrivalasa–at the request of the company due to 'local issues", a top official said on Monday.
In a government order (GO), Chief Secretary K Vijayanand noted that AGEL wrote to the government to cancel these projects due to boundary disputes between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, which it termed 'local issues".
'The government, after detailed examination of the proposal of AGEL in consultation with various stakeholders, has further issued orders for the cancellation of 1200 MW Kurukutti and 1000 MW Karrivalasa Pumped Hydro Storage Power Projects in Parvathipuram Manyam District allotted to AGEL," Vijayanand said.
The AGEL received permission to set up these two projects during the previous YSRCP government on June 29, 2022.
The feasibility reports for these projects were prepared by the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (NREDCAP) by engaging TCE Ltd while AGEL took up the responsibility of survey and investigations and the preparation of detailed project report (DPR).
On September 12, 2024, AGEL requested the cancellation of these two projects due to a boundary dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and requested to refund the facilitation charges paid by the company or adjust those funds towards the allotment fee due for 1000 MW Pedakota and 600 MW Raiwada PSP Projects.
The Pedaktoa and Raiwada projects were also allotted to AGEL.
Again on May 15, 2025, AGEL requested the cancellation of the Kurukutti and Karrivalasa PSP projects through a letter, said Vijayanand.
Taking into consideration the difficulties in conducting survey and investigations due to border disputes, the vice chairman and managing director of NREDCAP, M Kamalakara Babu, has requested the government to consider the cancellation of the Kurukutti and Karrivalasa PSP projects as 'there is no fault on the part of the developer", AGEL, said Vijayanand.
Further, Babu also requested the approval to adjust fee paid for these projects after deducting the expenses incurred for conducting the survey and investigations by NREDCAP against facilitation fees and DPR expenses after adjusting the taxes payable, in respect of 1000 MW Pedakota PSP and 600 MW Raiwada PSP Projects.
The AGEL's cancellation proposal was placed before the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) meeting held on July 17 and it had agreed to cancel Kurukutti and Karrivalasa projects due to local issues as per the request of the developer, added Vijayanand. PTI STH KH

Mob violence erupts in Yavat over social media post; 1 detained
Clashes broke out between two communities in Yavat, in Pune's Daund tehsil, on Friday, over an objectionable post allegedly uploaded on social media by a youth. (PTI) According to Pune rural police, soon after the post was widely shared, heated arguments ensued between members of the two communities, following which an irate mob indulged in stone pelting, set motorcycles ablaze and vandalised a bakery, houses and religious structures. Police used tear gas and resorted to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the mob. Multiple teams were mobilised to restore order in the town. The youth who posted the content has been detained, and the process to register an FIR against him at the Yavat police station was on till late Friday evening, said police. More FIRs will be registered against persons involved in vandalism and riots under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The properties and vehicles that were vandalised are in Sahakar Nagar, Station Road and Indira Nagar areas. The mob also set the house of the accused on fire. Authorities have imposed Section 144 in the affected areas to prevent further gatherings or unrest. Three platoons of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) have been deployed in the town in order to maintain law and order. Senior officials, Sunil Phulari, IG Kolhapur range; and Sandip Singh Gill, superintendent of Pune rural police, visited the spots and appealed for calm. 'We have detained a person, and the situation in the town is under control,' said Gill, warning that 'strict action will be taken against those responsible for spreading inflammatory content and engaging in violence'. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was in Pune on Friday, said, 'An individual posted an objectionable social media post, leading to unrest between communities. Police had to resort to mild force to disperse the crowd, but the situation is now under control.' Fadnavis condemned those deliberately trying to incite conflict. 'Some people are intentionally posting such content to create communal friction. Police will take strict action against them. No one has the right to insult any religion and its followers,' he asserted. The chief minister added that the meeting held on Thursday by the Hindu Jan Akrosh Morcha, which was attended by many BJP and NCP leaders, among others, to condemn the desecration of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue in Yavat on July 26, was in no way connected to Friday's incident. On July 27, citizens of all communities had protested against the incident. Ajit Pawar, deputy chief minister and guardian minister of the Pune district, visited Yavat after the violence. Pawar said, 'Police force, SRPF teams have been deployed and the situation is now under control.' Weekly markets which are set up on Friday in Yavat and adjoining villages were called off due to the tense atmosphere. By the end of the day, Phulari said, 'The situation in Yavat is now under control and peaceful. Almost all daily activities have returned to normal. We have made sufficient security arrangements with support from Pune rural police and the SRPF.'

Tesla to launch first charging station in India, begins rollout from Mumbai
American electric vehicle major Tesla is set to inaugurate its first charging station in India next week, marking a significant step in its formal entry into the Indian market, PTI r eports. Located in Mumbai, the station will feature four V4 Supercharging stalls offering fast DC charging at a peak speed of 250 kW, priced at ₹24/kWh, alongside four Destination (AC) chargers delivering 11 kW at ₹14/kWh, the company said in a statement on Friday. "This will be the first of the eight Supercharging sites that were announced during the launch in Mumbai, with more planned across the country, to provide the optimal cross-country experience," Tesla said. The announcement follows the company's official entry into India last month, which included the launch of the Model Y SUV starting at ₹59.89 lakh and the opening of its first experience centre at Maker Maxity in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. Highlighting the efficiency of its charging network, Tesla claimed the Model Y can gain up to 267 kilometres of range in just 15 minutes on its Superchargers — "enough for five return trips between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and Gateway of India". To support home charging, Tesla will also offer a complimentary wall connector installation with every new car purchase, the company added. The opening of Tesla's first charging station is expected to be a pivotal moment in India's premium EV adoption story, offering customers the fast-charging convenience that Tesla owners have come to expect globally.

Delhiites would soon get an opportunity to experience hot air balloon rides. Officials said on Thursday that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has finalised an agency to conduct the adventure activity at four locations. "After careful consideration, the four locations have been selected for the initial start of the project," the official was quoted by news agency PTI as saying. 2. Commonwealth Games sports complex 3. Two other sites along the Yamuna Bank at Asita and Baansera The Commonwealth Games Village along the banks of the Yamuna River is spread across a vast space of around 100 acres. It was constructed as a residence for athletes during the Commonwealth Games in 2010. It is located near Akshardham temple. Meanwhile, the Yamuna Sports Complex, situated in Surajmal Vihar, was also constructed for the games. It is the biggest sports complex developed by DDA. The DDA will provide 3600 sqm of space at each site for the operation of tethered hot air balloons, which will be tied to a rope at one end on the ground. "This project will promote eco-tourism and recreational activities and provide a unique aerial perspective of the national capital and its landscape. The entire concept has been visualised under the guidance and supervision of Lt Governor VK Saxena," a statement from the DDA read. As per the report, the agency will likely commence operations in two months' time. Four hours of flying time will be allowed every day. The private company will be operating on a revenue-sharing model, and the agency will be allowed to advertise on the balloons. The DDA said in a statement that to ensure transparency and proper record keeping, "all proceeds from ticketing will be credited to DDA's account." The price of the hot-air balloon rides will be decided by the firm. However, the DDA has directed them to keep the tickets at a reasonable price. The development came as the DDA is extensively working on the Rejuvenation of the River Yamuna and the state. The aim is to develop Yamuna Front into a tourism and culture hub. Also, ferry service is being developed on the Yamuna River on a four- to six-km stretch between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur. This project also aims to develop tourism in the state. An MoU was signed between the Inland Waterways Authority of India and the departments of the Delhi government.
