Speaking of the Tar Heels, where are they ranked ahead of this coming season? In the following On3 Sports article, Phil Steele ranks UNC 57th. North Carolina is one spot behind Arizona, which finished 2024 with its sixth losing season in seven years, plus a slot ahead of Tulane – coached by Jon Summrall.
The Tar Heels will be tested early in their schedule, hosting 2022 CFP runner-up TCU at 8 p.m. on Labor Day. UNC should have two easy wins after playing the Horned Frogs, with a trip to Charlotte and a home date with Richmond on September 13, then face a tough challenge at UCF before a bye week.
North Carolina will host Clemson on October 4, then enter its second bye week. California and Virginia are two beatable teams, then a road date with Syracuse on Halloween will be testing. Stanford, Wake Forest, Duke and NC State close out the Tar Heels' schedule.

Through foundation, Hornets' Brandon Miller hosts 1st Charlotte youth camp
Young athletes by the dozen had help honing their basketball skills at Queens University of Charlotte, with guidance from NBA coaches, players, and a Hornets legend. Hornets star Brandon Miller set to host basketball camp in Charlotte for first time The 'BMill Skills Factory' is a two-day camp designed for children ages 9-14, courtesy of the Team Miller Foundation, a nonprofit founded by Hornets forward Brandon Miller alongside his family. Team Miller also hosts the event annually at his alma mater in Nashville. 'I wasn't thinking it would be like this,' Brandon Miller said of the turnout. 'Me being here in the kid's presence, I think it's a blessing for the kids, just to learn new stuff about the game and learn new things about life.' Hornets legend Muggsy Bogues was among volunteers, along with Hornets head coach Charles Lee, and Miller's college teammate Noah Clowney. 'We're going to make them accountable, focused, but more importantly, have some fun,' Bogues said. 'One of the biggest qualities that Brandon has is his work ethic, and that's what we want,' said Miller's father, Darrell Miller. 'We only have them for two days here, but this goes on for 365 days.' 'This is just not an experience the kids have for now. They're going to remember this for a lifetime,' added Yolanda Miller, Miller's mother. The two recalled how their son was once a young camper, himself, and now among the NBA's rising stars. 'Charlotte is our second home now,' Brandon Miller said. 'Just to see kids show up in another city, another state just to support the foundation, it excites us. It brings us joy.' College football analyst reveals thoughts about Bill Belichick coaching UNC football
Will Bill Belichick work out at UNC? The North Carolina Tar Heels are nowhere close to a college football powerhouse, but they made a massive move this offseason in hopes they become a future powerhouse. In December 2024, UNC hired 8-time Super Bowl Champion Bill Belichick to be their next head coach. Belichick started his coaching career with the then-Baltimore Colts in 1975, coaching in the NFL until January 2024 with the New England Patriots. The Tar Heels are hoping that Belichick can find success early on in his college coaching career. But some analysts are not convinced he will. On his latest podcast, 247Sports' Josh Pate said he doesn't think the Belichick experiment will work at North Carolina. 'Swallow this about North Carolina: I flat out don't think it's (Belichick) going to work," Pate said. "I don't think that college football is remotely as comparable to the NFL, as the broad brush artists out there tend to paint it. Even if you have the investment, let's just say North Carolina's invested. A lot of the feedback I've gotten is they're taking it seriously. They're not going to pay him $10 million a year, but not get behind him. Even if you're behind him, you gotta go out-recruit Georgia or Alabama, or Clemson, or Miami. You can't just try and stay close to them and hope to out-develop them. Cause they're good at developing and recruiting.' Despite Belichick's extensive professional success, he's a first-time college coach. Belichick is no stranger to college football, spending his early childhood days in Kenan Stadium with his father, but hasn't coached a collegiate game before. There's plenty of hope weaving its way through Chapel Hill right now, as the Tar Heels have a multi-time Super Bowl Champion coaching them. In a perfect world, UNC wins the CFP National Championship this fall, but there's also plenty of risk with a first-time college coach. Belichick's collegiate coaching debut will come Monday, September 1 at 8 p.m. against TCU, with the Horned Frogs traveling to Kenan Stadium for a primetime kickoff on ESPN. How North Carolina plays in that game will be a key, early indicator of if the Belichick experiment.
