Coronation Street fans slam 'dreadful' exit for Eileen Grimshaw after 25 years

Daily Mirror06-06-2025
It was an emotional night in Coronation Street tonight, as Eileen Grimshaw waved goodbye to Weatherfield after 25 years - but some fans wanted a better exit for the star
It was the end of an era on Coronation Street tonight, as Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) waved goodbye to the street she'd lived on for 25 years. Actress Sue Cleaver joined the ITV soap in 2000, when her character moved into number 11 with sons Jason and Todd Grimshaw. However, some fans weren't impressed with her exit scenes.
The character quickly became a fan favourite, winning numerous awards for her portrayal of the role, and her feud with Gail Platt (Helen Worth) will go down in history.

However, after 25 years, it was time for Eileen to wave goodbye to Weatherfield, and hello to Thailand as she made a big move.

It comes after a tough time for the character, who was being suspected in her sister Julie's tragic death. In tonight's episode, Eileen was cleared by the police of any wrongdoing in Julie's death. She then decided to make the move to Thailand, and invest in her son Jason's bar.
It wasn't the only big change for the character, as she ended her relationship with George after admitting she only loved him as a friend.
In her final scenes, Eileen who worked at the StreetCars taxi service alongside Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), was seen hopping into the back of his cab with Jason.
Showing their appreciation, Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) and the other cabbies lined up the taxis on the street, honking their horns and saluting her as she waved out the window.

Despite the 'touching' scenes, some fans weren't happy about the exit Eileen was given after 25 years, as they expected more. One penned: "This will go down in history as one of the most drawn out exits ever," as another wrote: "This is a dreadful last episode for a long term character."
"Well, that send off, wasn't very exciting," tweeted a third, while another agreed: "Goodness. Eileen's exit storyline is very, very, VERY bland."
However, others took to the social media platform to praise the exit. "Wow todays episode of Corrie had me happy crying what an ending for an iconic character," wrote one fan, as another said: "Loved how all the taxis lined the street to wave eileen off. Nice touch."
Previously speaking about her exit scenes, Sue gushed that the ITV soap had given her "the perfect ending." Speaking on Kelvin and Liz Fletcher's Off Script podcast, the star said: "When I read it and saw it, I was really emotional. It's the perfect ending. It is everything that I wanted."

Coleen Nolan shares how she really feels about Loose Women's ITV future after channel made major cuts

COLEEN Nolan has shared how she really feels about Loose Women's ITV future after the channel made major cuts. In May, The Sun exclusively revealed how ITV bosses had axed Loose Women and Lorraine episodes for 22 weeks of the year, in a brutal shake up of their Daytime schedule. 4 Coleen Nolan has revealed how she really feels about the major changes coming to Loose Women Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 4 Coleen has been on the show since 2000 Credit: ITV 4 ITV bosses have axed Loose Women and Lorraine episodes for 22 weeks of the year Credit: Rex The plans also included cutting Lorraine episodes by 30 minutes and extending Good Morning Britain. This Morning and Loose Women were unaffected by scheduling changes and will remain in their regular slots of 10.30am to 12.30pm and 12.30pm to 1.30pm, respectively. However, Loose Women will broadcast fewer episodes - airing "on a seasonal basis for 30 weeks of the year" according to the network. Now Coleen - who has been a Loose Women panellist since 2000 - has spoken out about the 'devastating' impact the changes will have. She told The Mirror: "Loose Women isn't ending, which I'm so thankful for, but it's changing. "It's going to be very different in the respect of the size of the crew, but it's still running. "Which it should be – there isn't another show that celebrates and supports all women of every size, age, whatever. "But it's heartbreaking to see some of my colleagues not knowing what they're going to do. Many of them have young families and mortgages.' She continued: "You read about it all the time – a chain store's shutting down and 300 people are affected. "You go, oh that's awful. Anyway, what do you want for dinner?', because it doesn't directly affect you. Coleen Nolan chokes back tears as she admits nearly quitting Loose Women after sister Linda's death 'I've never been so close to it. It's made me realise how much this is happening across the whole country at the moment and it's devastating.' Kevin Lygo, Managing Director of ITV's Media and Entertainment Division, said: 'Daytime is a really important part of what we do, and these scheduling and production changes will enable us to continue to deliver a schedule providing viewers with the news, debate and discussion they love from the presenters they know and trust as well generating savings which will allow us to reinvest across the programme budget in other genres. 'These changes also allow us to consolidate our news operations and expand our national, international and regional news output and to build upon our proud history of trusted journalism at a time when our viewers need accurate, unbiased news coverage more than ever.' 4 Coleen described the changes as 'devastating' and 'heartbreaking' Credit: Rex Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.

Lorraine Kelly stuns at Wimbledon with white summer dress alongside daughter

Lorraine Kelly and her daughter Rosie spent a sunny day at Wimbledon, sharing cocktails and laughter amid the heatwave... Lorraine Kelly stunned spectators as she stepped out in a white summer dress while attending Wimbledon with her daughter Rosie. The 65-year-old TV presenter looked gorgeous, beaming with a wide smile as she enjoyed a cocktail and soaked up the lively atmosphere at the iconic tennis tournament. ‌ Dressed perfect for the sweltering temperatures, Lorraine embraced the summer sunshine wearing a midi sleeved white sun dress and stylish brown leather sandals. As temperatures climbed to 30 degrees, many fans struggled to stay cool but the TV personality appeared to be composed and enjoyed the sun. ‌ The Met Office forecasters had earlier predicted that this year's Wimbledon could mark the warmest ever start to the tournament on record. But that didn't seem to faze Lorraine and Rosie. Rosie mirrored her mum's style, wearing a sleeveless red flower patterned dress and some black wedges. The 31-year-old looked excited to be at the event as she smiled alongside her mum for photos. The pair looked relaxed and unbothered by the heatwave as they chatted and clutched their cocktails, enjoying their day out despite the scorching heat. Rosie welcomed her first child last September, alongside her fiancé Steve White. Billie Kelly Smith-White was born on August 29, making Lorraine a proud grandmother. ‌ Rosie and Steve announced the birth on Instagram, posting a cute picture of the little one grabbing onto Rosie's finger with the caption: "Baby Billie Kelly Smith-White is here. 29-08-2024." "It feels like she's been here the whole time and we're not quite sure what the point of anything was before. I'd heard how amazing midwives are but they are genuinely walking angels - she's been welcomed into the world with so much love already." ‌ Lorraine reposted the image, sharing how proud she was of her daughter and that she was "delighted to be Granny Smith" taking on a 'new adventure.' The TV host didn't stop there, as she invited her daughter and new grand-daughter on her ITV daytime show Lorraine to recreate a special moment, back in October last year. The family were joined on set by Doctor Hilary Jones to recreate a moment from three decades prior. ‌ Lorraine looked back at the moment she held a new-born Rosie on GMTV back in 1994. The footage showed a younger Lorraine with darker hair holding Rosie in her arms, as Dr Hilary offered her some advice on navigating parenthood for the first time. Thirty years later, history came full circle as Rosie returned to the Lorraine show, this time with her two-month-old daughter, Billie. Reflecting on a clip from three decades ago featuring baby Rosie on the same set, Dr Hilary remarked: "Goodness me. You can see the resemblance. Thirty years on. It's incredible." Lorraine agreed, adding: "Uncanny, actually.
