Mohali: Law student among 3 held for extorting ₹7 lakh from IT professional
The accused include law student Arshdeep Kumar, a native of Barnala and currently residing in Zirakpur; Parminder Singh, also from Barnala, and Pooja Taneja, of Karnal, Haryana, both working for private firms.
The gang targeted Aditya Nandan, a resident of Sunny Enclave and an employee at an IT company. According to police, the trap was initiated when Pooja contacted Nandan from an unknown phone number and gradually built a fake friendship with him over phone conversations.

After gaining his trust, she insisted on meeting him in person. The victim agreed and shared his address. She arrived at his residence accompanied by another female.
After settling in, she called two men to the location and the group allegedly began threatening the victim, pressuring him to reveal his bank credentials and credit card details. Using that information, they withdrew ₹7.66 lakh in cash and used his credit card to purchase three iPhone 16 Pro Max phones. They also fled with his laptop, mobile phone and important documents.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Rupinder Kaur Sohi said after police were alerted, an operation was carried out swiftly under the supervision of senior officers.
Tracking the transaction IDs and analysing other critical cyber evidence led investigators to the Airport Road area, where the accused was arrested.
Police also recovered stolen electronics and iPhones purchased using the victim's credit card. The accused have been booked under Sections 308(2) (extortion), 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Cyber Crime police station in Mohali.

Tension in Harda as police clash with Karni Sena protesters
Bhopal: Tension gripped Harda district on Sunday after police resorted to lathi-charge, water cannons, and tear gas to disperse Karni Sena Parivar volunteers protesting over the arrest of their leaders. Over 60 members, including national president Jeevan Singh Sherpur, were arrested, prompting authorities to impose prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Considering the situation, police force from nearby districts was also called in. On Sunday morning, volunteers of the organisation blocked a road and staged protests. Police initially tried to disperse the crowd with persuasion. When protesters refused to budge, tear gas shells were fired, and water cannons were used. Police then resorted to baton charge to clear the area. "The situation is under control now. More than 60 people were arrested, and prohibitory orders under Section 163 of BNS were issued," SP Harda Abhinav Chouksey told TOI. He added, "Mild force had to be used to disperse the crowd. The protestors who came from nearby districts were also sent back. Security has been beefed up. Police force from nearby districts were also called upon." Sources said that an office bearer of Karni Sena Parivar, named Ashish Singh Rajput, made a complaint with police earlier that he was defrauded of Rs 18 lakh by accused Mohit Verma and two others. On Saturday, police arrested Mohit Verma and were taking him to court when the volunteers of Karni Sena Parivar allegedly intercepted police and demanded to hand over the accused to them. "They were carrying sticks and seeking custody of the accused," Chouksey said. Sources said that when the situation escalated on Saturday, police arrested Karni Sena district president Sunil Rajput, Ashish Rajput, and two others. Sunday's protest was in response to those arrests, added sources.

Hoax bomb threats target Raj Bhavan and Cliff House
Thiruvananthapuram: In the 25th hoax bomb threat in the city this year, an unidentified person sent a message threatening to detonate Raj Bhavan and Cliff House on Sunday morning. In the hoax threats received from anuradha_sve_shekher@ there were warnings of a blast at these places. Following this, the dog squad conducted a search, but nothing suspicious was detected. The email was sent to the official mail ID of Thampanoor and Kovalam police stations. On Friday, state police chief received a similar email targeting the Cliff House. City cyber police began a probe after registering a case under section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 351 (1) (b) for criminal intimidation, sections of the Kerala Police Act 118 (b) for knowingly spreading rumours or giving false alarms to mislead police, fire brigade, or any other essential service, and 120 (o) for causing nuisance or violating public order. They also registered a case under sections 43 and 66 of the Information Technology Act-2000. Despite receiving several threats, the probe team is clueless about the people sending such threats. A request was made to the Microsoft team to share the details, but no information was provided. Later, the probe team approached a court to direct Microsoft to share the required details, but Microsoft claimed that they were not in possession of the requested information.
