Dame Arlene Phillips says people regularly confuse her with Shirley Ballas.
The 82-year-old star was a member of the judging panel on Strictly Come Dancing between 2004 and 2008 but revealed that she often gets mistaken for the current head judge on the BBC's Saturday night staple in public.

Speaking to the i newspaper, Arlene said: "People come running up to me shouting, 'Shirley! Shirley!' and I have to say, 'No, I'm the other one!'"

Phillips was controversially replaced on the Strictly judging panel by Alesha Dixon in 2009 – with the move sparking ageism allegations and drawing over 2,000 complaints from the public – but she largely ignored the furore.
She explained: "I guess I... I didn't notice it that much at the time. I wrapped myself in my world and got on with life."
Arlene added: "(People approach me) all the time to say, 'You should never have gone!'"

The star revealed that she continues to watch Strictly Come Dancing in "bits and pieces" as she remains good friends with her former judging colleague Craig Revel Horwood and choreographer Jason Gilkison.
Arlene said: "(I watch Strictly) in bits and pieces on catch-up. It's rare I'd sit still on a Saturday night for a couple of hours but I'm also close to Jason Gilkison and I love watching the big dance number he's created."
The choreographer, who was the oldest-ever contestant on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! when she took part in the 2021 series of the ITV reality show at the age of 78, is working on a gender-flipped take on William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream and has no plans to retire any time soon.

She said: "Why would I, when there are so many interesting opportunities out there? New ideas keep you young."
Meanwhile, Arlene previously hit out at the trend for politicians appearing on Strictly Come Dancing and I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! as she thinks it's wrong for them to "make fools of themselves" and play "silly little games" in front of the viewing public.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper's The Diary column last year: "I'm not big on politicians, even ex-politicians, going into the jungle or dancing on Strictly.

"I actually don't like them making fools of themselves.
"We try to teach our children and grandchildren to respect people who are governing and running the country, not going on shows, doing silly little games."

Glastonbury headliner ‘had to use cheat sheet on stage to remember lyrics of most famous songs'

NEIL Young reportedly had to use a cheat sheet during his Glastonbury headline set to remember the lyrics to some of his most famous songs. Rock legend Neil, 79, is believed to have been seen glancing at a printed song sheet during the final 25 minutes of his 110-minute Pyramid Stage performance on Saturday night. 3 Audience members say they saw the musician checking the lyrics during renditions of Old Man and Name of Love as the show drew to a close. One festivalgoer told MailOnline: 'You'd think he would know the words by now, he has been singing these songs for years. 'But maybe it's difficult to play the piano and remember the lyrics.' Neil - one of the oldest artists ever to headline Glastonbury - performed a set packed with hits including Rockin' in the Free World and Throw Your Hatred Down. However, the performance appeared to attract a smaller crowd than previous Saturday night headliners, with some attendees noting that the field in front of the Pyramid Stage was unusually sparse. One wrote on social media: 'So empty at Neil Young," while another added: Pyramid stage field isn't even a quarter full by the looks of it.' The appearance marked his first Glastonbury performance since 2009. Neil had initially turned down this year's offer, criticising the BBC's involvement with the festival and claiming it was 'under corporate control'. Representatives for Neil and Glastonbury have been contacted for comment. But that wasn't Neil's only trouble during the gig. The Canadian rock veteran also had difficulties with his microphone throughout the set. He opened his show with Sugar Mountain, saying, 'Thank you folks," to the crowd as the song ended. But those watching it were not impressed, with one person commenting: 'Someone tell Neil Young to sing into a microphone.' A second moaned: 'Sound needs turning up like ffs, he's shredding that axe and you can hardly hear it.' While a third said: 'Neil young with 48 microphones and none of them able to make his voice sound much beyond a grumble. Glastonbury has had a real hard time with the headliners the last couple of years…' And a fourth added: 'Watched a few minutes of this Neil Young man, this is like the worst thing I've ever seen and heard. 'It's a no from me! Neil Young should not be headlining!Terrible!' raged another. The star's set was shown live on the BBC after the broadcaster had previously said it would not be transmitted live"at the artist's request". Earlier on Saturday, a BBC statement said: "We are delighted to confirm that Neil Young's headline set from Glastonbury on Saturday will be broadcast live to audiences across the UK on the BBC." Neil's performance was not guaranteed as earlier in the year he temporarily pulled out of, claiming it is a "corporate turn-off" due to its broadcast deal with the BBC. He said on his website: "We were told that BBC was now a partner in Glastonbury and wanted us to do a lot of things in a way we were not interested in. "It seems Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it being." But just days later he did a surprise U-turn, the singer confirmed his slot blaming "an error in the information I received" for him initially turning down the offer. A statement on his website read: "Due to an error in the information received, I had decided to not play the Glastonbury Festival, which I always have loved. "Happily, the festival is now back on our itinerary and we look forward to playing. Hope to see you there." The Sun first reported that the singer was booked to headline Glastonbury, 16 years after he last played on the Pyramid Stage. Love Island spoilers: The heart rate challenge is back - and Helena leaves the boys reeling with VERY raunchy trick

The iconic heart rate challenge is set to return to Love Island and Helena leaves the boys reeling with a very raunchy trick. In scenes due to air on Monday's episode of the ITV reality show, Shakira receives a text message announcing a new challenge for the villa. She read: 'Islanders, it's time to get each others' pulses racing in tonight's Boys vs Girls challenge. #HeartthrobMode #BootyandBeats'. The girls go first, with Toni leading the way, and attempt to raise the boys' heart rates with saucy performances. Alima's heart-racing entrance stuns the men while Emily dresses like an angel and Shakira throws rose petals. But it's Helena's trick that really sets things off as she whispers something in Harry's ear. He later asks Tommy to pass the cheeky message on and Dejon looks shocked when he hears what Helena said. The boys take their turn to raise pulses too - Tommy's go-to is a whopping bouquet of red roses, while Conor tries his best with a Rugby ball. Harrison dons pleather as he tries to impress the girls while Giorgio dresses like a waiter and pours chocolate on his torso. As for Harry, he wears gold angel wings and chooses to whisper back in Helena's ear. Dejon's trick involves him lying Meg down on the floor. At the end of the challenge, the Islanders are told who raised their heart rates the highest and the results cause shock waves amongst the group. The evening before, Shakira confronts Harry about his kiss with Helena during the game of Snog, Marry, Pie. She asks him, 'Why did you do it?' Harry replies, 'Because I had no reason to kiss anyone else.' But Shakira isn't pleased with his reasoning and fumes, 'You knew that would p**s me off. 'You could've kissed anybody, then to get down on one knee like, I was going to be buzzing after I watched you snog her…' Harry attempts to make amends and says, 'I don't want to hurt you, I haven't tried to hurt you Shakira.' She replies, 'But you have. Everything in me is telling me to burn it.' Later on in the evening, the Islanders are called to recouple and the boys are given the power to choose first. Each share their feelings and reasoning behind their decisions, with some gushing over growing connections. Harry comments on 'choppy waters' and Harrison reveals his coupling choice explaining they 'naturally gravitate towards each other'. Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
