Driver of car involved in fatal accident remanded for seven days
Temerloh District Police Chief ACP Mazlan Hassan said the 38-year-old man, whose address is in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, was detained starting today until June 18.
'The suspect was remanded to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,' he said in a statement today.
Earlier, Mazlan was reported to have said that a search of the car found plastic packets suspected to contain syabu and heroin drugs estimated to be worth more than RM6,000.
In the incident around 11 pm, motorcyclist Nur Irdina Shaffiya Muhammad Nazri and her pillion rider, Aneez Irdiena Sofya Khairul Azman, both aged 18, died at the scene, believed to have been hit by a Perodua Bezza car while they had stopped at a red traffic light.

Of the total, 7,196 individuals had been charged in court for various offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, he said. DCP Mohd Alwi said 4,498 investigation papers related to drug trafficking and possession were also opened during this period. He added that another 7,938 investigations were conducted for drug abuse offences under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while actions were taken against 251 individuals under Section 39C(1) of the same Act. 'The arrests were the result of continuous operations and intelligence-led enforcement efforts, targeting traffickers, distributors and users across the state,' he said during a press conference at the North Seberang Perai police headquarters' centralised evidence storage facility in Jalan Kedah yesterday. Earlier, DCP Mohd Alwi witnessed the disposal of 120.9kg of seized drugs worth about RM2mil. The drugs included 19.75kg of heroin and monoacetylmorphine, 53.57kg of cannabis, 2.9kg of ketamine, 42.61kg of methamphetamine and 2.1kg of various psychotropic pills. He said the substances were seized during 5,265 investigation cases handled by the state Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) between 2010 and 2024, covering five districts in Penang.

Couple in Ford Mustang dies after crash into power poles near Segamat
SEGAMAT: A married couple died tragically after the car they were travelling in skidded and crashed into power poles at KM13 of Jalan Segamat-Kuantan on Monday (August 4) evening. Segamat police chief Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the accident is believed to have occurred when a Ford Mustang driven by the 50-year-old local man and his 30-year-old wife was heading towards Segamat. He said the driver lost control of the classic American automobile which skidded and veered left, then hit two electric poles whereby both victims suffered serious injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. 'The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and further investigations are still being carried out. Anyone with related information can contact the (traffic division of) Segamat police headquarters,' he said in a statement. Meanwhile, Segamat fire and rescue station operations commander Senior Fire Officer (PBK) Abd Rahim Taufik said after receiving a distress call at 1.46 pm, a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) with six personnel was dispatched to the scene. 'On arrival at the accident scene, the operations team had to extricate the two victims in the car using special equipment. 'Both victims, Mohd Izuddin Harmaini, 51, and Nur Syamimi Rosli, 36, were pronounced dead,' he said, adding that their bodies were handed over to police for further action and the operation ended at 3.36 pm. - Bernama

Man wanted for attempted murder nabbed while driving stolen vehicle in Temerloh
TEMERLOH: A 35-year-old man who was on the police wanted list was arrested today while driving a stolen vehicle in Jalan Tengku Ismail, near here. The suspect, who has A criminal record with 44 prior offences, was found in possession of drugs and tools used in telecommunication cable thefts. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan said a police team, led by Assistant Superintendent Amirul Syazwan from the district Criminal Investigation Department, spotted the suspect behaving suspiciously during their patrol rounds about 10.30am. "The suspect, who was alone in an Isuzu pickup truck parked in front of a shop, attempted to flee when approached by police. He crashed into a road divider and ended up in the opposite lane. "He then tried to resist arrest, but the police team managed to overpower him. Upon searching the vehicle, policemen found Yaba pills, syabu, and several cable-cutting tools in the rear of the truck," he said in a statement. Mazlan said investigations revealed the suspect was wanted for attempted murder and for obstructing a public servant in Bentong. "Checks on the engine and chassis numbers revealed that the pickup truck had been reported stolen in Kelantan. "Initial investigations also found him to be behind a series of telecommunication cable thefts reported earlier this year in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Jerantut and Maran," he said, adding that the suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine use. Mazlan said the suspect is being investigated for obstructing public servants, possession of drugs, and possession of tools used in cable thefts. Meanwhile, in a separate incident along the same stretch of the road at around the same time, Mazlan said a police team detained a couple traveling in a Volkswagen car that was not registered with the Road Transport Department. "Policemen flagged down the car and discovered Yaba pills, two bottles of ketum juice, cutters, and a rope during the inspection. Investigations revealed the couple were from Bandar Jengka in Maran, and the male suspect tested positive for methamphetamine. "They are being investigated for possession of drugs and ketum juice, and for operating a vehicle suspected of not being declared to the Customs Department," he said.
