Julian McMahon, Fantastic Four, Nip/Tuck and Charmed actor, dies aged 56

Julian McMahon, the Australian actor best known for his television roles in Charmed, Nip/Tuck and FBI: Most Wanted as well as Fantastic Four supervillain Doctor Doom, has died aged 56.
The actor died in Clearwater, Florida, on Wednesday. He had been diagnosed with cancer, which had not been publicly announced.
His wife, Kelly Paniagua, confirmed his death on Friday, calling McMahon her 'beloved husband'.
'With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,' she said in a statement to Deadline.
'Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible.'
She added: 'We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.'
Born in Sydney in 1968, McMahon was the son of former Australian prime minister Sir William 'Billy' McMahon. He began his career as a model in the 1980s before moving into acting, landing a role in the Australian soap Home and Away in 1990 and appearing in 150 episodes.
He made his feature film debut in the 1992 comedy Exchange Lifeguards, titled Wet and Wild Summer! in the US, alongside Elliott Gould, and quickly moved into US television, appearing in shows including Another World, Profiler and Will & Grace.
He gained wider recognition as the half-human, half-demon assassin Cole Turner in the hit supernatural series Charmed, appearing on the show between 2000 and 2003 and briefly returning in 2005.
He later appeared in Nip/Tuck, the racy FX medical drama created by Ryan Murphy, playing the arrogant plastic surgeon Dr Christian Troy. The show ran for six seasons from 2003 to 2010 and earned McMahon a Golden Globe nomination.
Becoming known for playing charming villains, McMahon played the Marvel supervillain Doctor Doom in 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Four films in 2005 and 2007. He also voiced Doctor Doom in the 2005 Fantastic Four video game.
McMahon also portrayed Jess LaCroix, a special agent and team leader, in FBI: Most Wanted, appearing for three seasons before leaving the show.
Dick Wolf, the producer of FBI: Most Wanted, called McMahon's death 'shocking news' in a statement on Friday. 'All of us at Wolf Entertainment are deeply saddened by Julian's passing and our condolences go out to his entire family,' he added.
Australian film director and screenwriter Stephan Elliott reflected on their time at school together, describing McMahon as a 'wild child who kept his father on his toes whilst poor Billy tried to govern a country'.
'His reputation preceded him – the amusement of watching Asio agents follow him home from the gates of Sydney Grammar every day whilst he led them on a goose chase was better than any Spy Kids,' Elliott said.
'Julian's exotic looks and fearlessness led him down a 'no one saw this coming' path of acting. I cast him in my last film, Swinging Safari, and begged him to play a heightened version of his parents.
'He went to town and left us crying with laughter after every take. He never had so much fun on a film. I'm graced to have been part of it.'
His most recent roles included playing the Australian prime minister Stephen Roos in Netflix's comedy-mystery The Residence; Scally, the menacing surfer terrorising Nicolas Cage's character in The Surfer; and the love interest Ray in The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat.
McMahon was married three times, including to Australian singer Dannii Minogue in 1994 and to actor Brooke Burns, with whom he has a daughter. His final marriage, to Paniagua, began in 2014.

EXCLUSIVE Home and Away star Christie Hayes shows off her baby bump during a stroll with her son in Tasmania as she reveals details of her pregnancy after miscarriage tragedy

It has been a rollercoaster year for former Home and Away star Christie Hayes. After experiencing a devastating miscarriage, the actress-turned-radio star is now safely into her sixth month of pregnancy. The 38-year-old couldn't contain her joy on a recent winter stroll by the Derwent River with her younger son Harley, near their home in Tasmania. In exclusive pictures taken by Daily Mail Australia, Christie - who shot to stardom in 2000 playing teen wild child Kirsty Sutherland in the iconic Aussie soap - covered up her baby bump in a purple cable-knit jumper. Her nine-year-old son Harley tenderly touched his mother's tummy as they cuddled up during the walk. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The host of Hobart's Hit 100.9 Dan and Christie breakfast radio show is set to welcome a baby girl in a matter of weeks. She announced on air in May that she and husband Justin Coombes-Pearce - also a radio host on Triple M - are excitedly preparing to welcome their first child together after a gruelling four-year IVF journey. There's been plenty to celebrate for Christie in recent months. Together with her co-host Dan Taylor, her radio show recently scored the coveted number-one position in the breakfast timeslot. The two have been hosting together since May 2022, and it's the first time they've been declared number one, dethroning 7HOFM's Sarah Mick and Johnno. Christie told Daily Mail Australia her pregnancy is progressing well, and she is 'getting really excited' for the arrival. 'It's our first girl, so we're happy,' she said. Christie is already a mother to Harley and his older brother Hendrix, 10, from a previous relationship. When she announced her pregnancy, she included an emotional message to families going through IVF. 'It's been four years in the making … I am pregnant. We are ecstatic, we are safe, and we're in the second trimester already,' she said. 'I just want you to know that if you are going through IVF, I have been where you are. I know how hard it is. I just want you to know that it can happen. When you least expect it, your life can change.' In a touching tribute to the baby Christie and Justin lost, she added, 'After the rain comes the rainbow. 'After losing a baby, two back-to-back chemical pregnancies, our miracle is finally here. And now, somehow, it makes sense. The final piece of our puzzle.' 'To my fellow IVF warriors — I see you. I am you. If you're still waiting, still aching, still hoping — please don't give up. Your miracle might just be around the corner, your story is still unfolding and we never know what the next chapter holds. 'Our beautiful boys and my darling husband and I couldn't be happier.' In April, Christie told New Idea magazine that losing their first baby 'ripped our hearts out'. They had brought a special Christmas decoration for the child they'd nicknamed 'Sunflower', which read, 'Mummy and Daddy can't wait to meet you in 2024'. At the time, Christie spoke of being 'hopeful but realistic' about whether they'd become pregnant again. When announcing on 26 May this year that he was set to become a father, Justin shared an emotionally charged message to social media. 'We're finally in the "safe zone", and I still can't quite believe I get to say those words,' he said. 'We've walked through more heartbreak than we ever imagined - endless appointments, IVF rounds that didn't work, moments we felt completely broken, and nights when we clung to each other and tried to stay strong when it all felt hopeless.
