P3B in aid ready for 2025 calamities — DSWD

GMA Network18 hours ago
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Sunday that it has P3 billion in standby funds and a prepositioned relief stockpile ready for calamities nationwide this year.
'Ito po ay magagamit natin para tutugon sa mga request ng iba't-ibang local government units (LGUs) na naapektuhan (this will be used to respond to the different requests of calamity-affected LGUs),' DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao told Super Radyo dzBB.
She added that over three million family food packs are prepositioned in DSWD warehouses across the country, as well as in local government units (LGUs) and private organizations' warehouses.
In a separate dzBB interview, the Office of Civil Defense reported over 3,700 families from the Ilocos Region (Region I), Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Cagayan Valley (Region II) have been affected so far by Bising (international name: Danas).
Dumlao said DSWD has provided aid to the affected residents, particularly in Benguet and Ilocos Sur.
On Friday, Bising exited the PAR. It developed into a severe tropical storm on Saturday night and reached typhoon category on Sunday.
PAGASA said Danas may re-enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by this evening or early Monday morning.
At 11 p.m., Danas was observed 385 kilometers west northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 150 km/h, and heading north northwestward at 10 km/h. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News

Signal No. 1 in Batanes as Bising intensifies, may re-enter PAR

Typhoon Danas is on the verge of re-entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and again taking the mantle Bising, PAGASA said Sunday evening. In its 11 p.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, the state weather forecaster said that Batanes remains under Signal No. 1 due to Bising, while most of the Philippines is expected to experience rains also due to the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat. As of 10 p.m., the center of the eye of Bising was estimated to 335 km northwest of Itbayat, Batanes outside PAR. It is moving northeast at 20 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 150 kn/h near the center, gustiness of up to 185 km/h, and central pressure of 965 hPa. The Habagat and the periphery of Bising are also forecast to bring strong to gale-force gusts to the Ilocos Region, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, Quezon, Occidental Mindoro, Masbate, and Romblon on Monday, "especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds," said PAGASA. Some areas have already suspended Monday classes in anticipation of the weather. As it continues northeast, Bising could re-enter the northwestern boundary of PAR Sunday night or early Monday morning, PAGASA added. It is then seen to cross the Taiwan landmass and its center will leave the northern boundary of PAR Monday morning, and eventually be 720 kilometers north northwest of Itbayat, Batanes or in the vicinity of Fujian, China on Wednesday morning. In its separate rainfall advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate rains are expected over Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, and Tarlac, which will affect Zambales and Bataan. Habagat, recent rains bring floods, affect fishers and farmers across PH

Several areas across the Philippines were impacted by the continuous rains over the weekend due to the southwest monsoon or Habagat and Tropical Cyclone Danas, bringing down prices of agricultural goods in northern Luzon, and causing floods in Mindanao. Farmers in Benguet have been forced to harvest their goods earlier due to the rains, with market prices down as sellers are offering goods such as cabbage at giveaway prices instead of throwing them out. 'Kahapon talaga 'yung medyo may kalakihan. Dose ang bigay namin. Kapag tag-ulan kasi, medyo mabilis na ano 'yung mga gulay, na ma-harvest kasi masisira,' Gloria Calpito, a seller at the La Trinidad Trading Post, said in a report by Nico Waje on GMA's '24 Oras Weekend' on Sunday. (Yesterday was really big. We sold at P12. During the rainy season, vegetables are harvested immediately because they go bad.) Fisherfolk in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte are also feeling the effects of the bad weather conditions, as they have been forced to skip fishing activities and remain on the ground for the past few days due to the waves. According to Ilocos Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) representative Marcell Tabije, authorities are now coordinating to ensure that fisherfolk stay on land for the meantime. 'Pinaigting natin 'yung pagbabantay at pag-info dissemination sa mga fisherfolk natin na huwag munang pumalaot habang malakas 'yung alon,' he said in a separate report by Darlene Cay. (We have intensified our surveillance and our info dissemination to the fisherfolk not to go at sea while the waves are strong.) Streets in Mindanao, particularly in the Sarangani Province, were also flooded by the continuous rains, as irrigation canals spilled over, and floodwaters entered residences in Barangay Pangyan in Glan, and a chapel in Barangay Cross. A river connected to the sea in Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental was also reported to have spilled over, forcing fishers and residents of the area to work hand in hand to bring boats back to the shore on Sunday morning. Cyclone Danas, Habagat to bring more rain across PH

Tropical cyclone Danas, formerly named Bising, and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will continue to bring rain across the country, PAGASA said Sunday afternoon. In its 4 p.m. daily weather forecast, the state weather bureau said rains with gusty winds will persist over Batanes due to Danas. These moderate to heavy rains may cause flooding or flash floods. The strong winds also pose a minimal to minor threat to lives and properties. Meanwhile, the trough of Danas will affect the weather conditions over the Babuyan Islands. At 3 p.m., Damas was located 335 kilometers west northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, packing a maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 160 km/h, and moving northeastward at 15 km/h. PAGASA earlier said Danas is expected to re-enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Sunday evening or early Monday morning. Meanwhile, occasional rains over the Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan are expected due to the Habagat. Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms will be observed over Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, SOCCSKSARGEN, and the rest of Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon due to the Habagat. These moderate to at times heavy rains may trigger flooding or flash floods. The rest of the country will also see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the Habagat. Residents of affected areas were warned of possible flooding or flash floods due to severe thunderstorms. State meteorologists also said the extreme Northern Luzon will experience strong wind conditions and rough coastal water conditions. Winds will be moderate to strong, while coastal waters will be moderate to rough in the western section of Central Luzon and the rest of Northern Luzon. The rest of the country will see light to moderate wind conditions and slight to moderate coastal water conditions. Sunrise in Metro Manila will be at 5:32 a.m. on Monday. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
