A native of Arpakkam village in Kancheepuram, this 31-year-old officer, who regularly meets police personnel to address their grievances, has so far devised at least five initiatives — Public Feedback Centre, Village Monitoring Scheme, Nimir (The Rising Team), Manam Thiranthu (Mind Opens), and Vettri Pathai (Path to Success) — for the general public as well as police personnel.
Spotting the rise in crimes against children and women in the district, the SP, who had earlier served as the deputy commissioner in Coimbatore (North), began prioritising the safety of women and children. This led to the birth of 'Nimir', an intensive Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act awareness team comprising trained women police personnel. The team visits villages and interior areas to spread awareness among women and children, and helps them access victims' compensation and other benefits. The team, so far, has prevented three child marriages within the span of a few months.
'My father Ramakrishnan, a farmer, was the one who motivated me to become an IPS officer and serve the society. He used to frequently visit book fairs and purchase books for me,' recollects Stalin.
In a bid to ensure public grievances are addressed appropriately, the SP, who never fails to receive petitions at his office, created a public feedback centre in the District Police Petition unit manned by police personnel. The centre dials each and every petitioner and asks for feedback regarding their petitions or inquires. If a petitioner is not satisfied, then the petition will be assigned to a different inquiry officer. 'The SP has received over 4,500 petitions directly within five months,' said a police officer.

1 2 3 Lucknow: On the face of it, Samajwadi Party 's new office in Azamgarh that was inaugurated by Akhilesh Yadav amid much fanfare on Thursday, is described as one in the series of offices that the party is setting up across the state and beyond. But going by the plans that the party leadership has, the premises are sure to assume the dimensions of SP's Purvanchal headquarters by the time the 2027 assembly elections approaches. To begin with, the idea to have a party office-cum-residence for SP chief in Azamgarh, has been in the offing for quite some time now. The party chief had mooted the idea well before the 2022 state polls. No wonder, the first chunk of 38 biswa and 16 kadi land (approx 2.46 acre) was purchased from 11 farmers on Jan 22, 2021. The land was purchased in the name of the party for around Rs 6.5 crore. While Rs 45.90 lakh were paid for the stamp papers, another Rs 6.5 lakh were paid as additional registration charges. The need for a full-fledged party office in the region was felt soon after Akhilesh took over the reins of the party in 2017. The fact that Purvanchal played the 'make or break' link belt for the SP in terms of putting the numbers on board to form the government in 2017 (14 seats) and 2022 (53) only expedited the process of setting up a party office in the region. The campus of the new SP office is located barely 3 km from the Azamgarh district headquarters and 7 km from the Manduri airstrip, thus making it easy for senior leaders to visit it at regular intervals. If sources are to be believed, the SP chief will monitor party's 2027 election campaign in 168 assembly seats of Purvanchal area from the Azamgarh party office itself. The structure of the party office when completed, promises to offer more than mere ornamental value. Apart from SP chief's office and cabins for his staff including personal assistant and likes, the office a visitor's room, waiting gallery, meeting hall and ante rooms for second rung leaders. When complete, the facility will have a 2000-capacity auditorium as well where party workers will meet the top leaders. The infrastructure promises to be at par with the party headquarters in Lucknow if not better than that. "SP office at Azamgarh also makes a political statement as well because it falls between two important power centres of the main political rival – the BJP. While Gorakhpur – the home district of chief minister Yogi Aditynath is situated in the North of Azamgarh, prime minister's parliamentary constituency of Varanasi falls in the South," said a senior SP leader. The SP strategists are confident that the renewed focus on Azamgarh will help the party push its PDA pitch across the Purvanchal demography which includes Yadavs, Dalits and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) like Kurmis, Rajbhars and Kushwahas, coupled with Muslims. Brahmins and Thakurs are also present in large numbers in Purvanchal and not all of them have got their share of the pie in the BJP government and will vote for the SP in 2027 polls," said a senior party functionary. It is no surprise then that Akhilesh had named the new party office in Azamgarh as 'PDA Bhawan'. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls the PDA – comprising Pichhade (Backward classes), Dalit and Alpsankhyak (Minorities) – has sided with the SP in UP significantly contributing to put up as tally of 37 seats – party's best ever score in Parliament polls. Choosing Azamgarh had an emotional element to it as well. In 2015, SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav had said: "Agar Mainpuri mera dil hai to Azamgarh meri dharkan hai (If Mainpuri is my heart, Azamgarh is my heartbeat)." Mulayam's emotions for Azamgarh were not unfounded. The district has been SP's stronghold in elections. In 2012 assembly polls SP bagged all 10 assembly seats in the district. In 2017 the party won 9 and in 2022 it again won all 10 again. The Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency has so far sent 5 SP MPs to the Parliament including Mulayam Singh (2014), Akhilesh Yadav (2019) and sitting MP Dharmendra Yadav.

Punjab cop tries to bribe senior to get corruption case quashed, arrested
The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Faridkot women's cell, Rajan Pal, has been arrested for attempting to bribe a senior official to get a corruption complaint filed against him to preliminary information, DSP Rajan Pal was investigating a complaint filed by Kiranjit Kaur, a married woman from Pakka village in Faridkot. During the enquiry, he allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the Kiranjit's family with the promise of resolving the case. However, he reportedly failed to take any action on the matter even after receiving the situation escalated when the woman's brother, Karmatej Singh, submitted a formal complaint to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Pragya Jain, accusing the DSP of extortion. On learning about the complaint, Rajan Pal attempted to suppress the case by offering the same amount — Rs 1 lakh — as a bribe to the SSP's reader, ASI Jaswinder Singh. ASI Jaswinder Singh promptly reported the bribery attempt to SSP Jain, who immediately ordered an FIR to be lodged. The police then registered a case against DSP Rajan Pal under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the City Police Station and took him into custody.'The Punjab government has made it clear that bribery will not be tolerated under any circumstances, regardless of rank. A case has been registered, and the DSP has been arrested for accepting a bribe from the victim's family and later attempting to bribe the SSP's reader to suppress the complaint against him,' SSP Jain told the action has also been initiated against Rajan Pal in accordance with government directives.- Ends

Govt reconstitutes border experts group with Sena MP Mane its head
Kolhapur: State govt has reappointed the Shiv Sena MP from Hatkanangle, Dhairyasheel Mane, as the head of the experts committee on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute. Kolhapur's Rajya Sabha member Dhananjay Mahadik has been made co-chairman of the experts group, which has the task of assisting govt in presenting the border dispute case strongly in the Supreme Court . Mane's appointment has been made against the suggestion of the Madhyavarti Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti of Belagavi that sought NCP (SP) state chief Jayant Patil be made the committee's chairman, considering his long-standing association with Marathi activists advocating for the inclusion of Marathi-speaking areas from Karnataka into Maharashtra. Last week, Marathi activists gathered at Belagavi and passed a resolution recommending the appointment of Patil as head of the committee. They even wrote a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in this regard, and also met NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar during his recent Kolhapur visit. Pawar had assured them that he would put in a word with the CM. "Our recommendation has not been accepted. We think party politics has crept into the issue, which is very sensitive since we, as Marathis, are going through hardships and generations have passed fighting for the inclusion of Maharashtra after the states were formed on a linguistic basis," a senior office-bearer of the Samiti said. Earlier, Mane was made the head of the expert committee after Eknath Shinde became the chief minister in 2022. The panel has a total of nine members, including the principal secretary of the law department.
