Officials reviewing Capital Metro DPR visit Kanaka Durga temple
The team included Jayadeep, Joint Secretary to the Union government (Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs - MoHUA), retired Chief Engineer Ramakrishna Reddy and State government representatives.
During their visit, the officials discussed the project with temple Executive Officer V.K. Seenanayak. They were also spoke about the recent reforms and enhancements undertaken at the temple.
Impressed by the developments, the officials congratulated the EO for upgrading temple facilities, preserving its spiritual sanctity and improving the pilgrim experience.
Meanwhile, members of the Andhra Pradesh Sādhu Parishad visited the Kanaka Durga Temple as part of the ongoing National Hindu Religious Conference being held in Vijayawada. They were accorded a warm welcome.
After the darshan, the Sadhu Parishad members participated in the Aashada saare programme at the Mahamandapam on the premises.
Speaking on the occasion, the sadhus lauded the temple's initiatives in upholding Sanātana Dharma, including the organisation of collective spiritual events, free prasadam distribution, and annadanam (offering of meals) to devotees.
They praised the temple management for fostering an atmosphere that blends devotion with community service, calling it a model for other temples in the country.

Agriculture Minister Atchannaidu seeks GST cut on mango pulp from 12% to 5%
VIJAYAWADA: Agriculture Minister K Atchannaidu on Monday urged Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to reduce the GST on mango pulp from 12% to 5%, while seeking enhanced central support for the State's agriculture sector. Speaking after the meeting in New Delhi, Atchannaidu alleged that farmers suffered under the YSRCP regime due to poor policy decisions and a failure to utilise Central schemes. 'The sector was paralysed under Jagan Mohan Reddy's rule,' he said, accusing the previous government of completely ignoring farmers' needs. The Agriculture minister said that 64% of the State's population depends on agriculture, and the current government is prioritising their welfare. He added that 3.5 lakh metric tonnes of mangoes have been procured from Chittoor farmers this season. The State government fixed the price for Totapuri mangoes at Rs 12 per kg, with Rs 8 paid by processors and Rs 4 subsidised by the State government. Proposals have also been sent to the Centre to release Rs 130 crore under the Market Intervention Scheme. On veterinary education, Minister Atchannaidu welcomed the Union government's approval to restore third and fourth-year and A.H. courses at the College of Veterinary Science in Garividi of Vizianagaram district. Commenting on former chiefr minister's proposed visit to Bangarupalem, Atchannaidu said that permission would be granted, however any disturbance to law and order would not be tolerated. The minister also assured farmers that there is no shortage of fertilisers and that adequate supplies are being ensured across the State.

Uttarakhand CM Dhami meets Union minister Shivraj Chouhan, discusses implementation of agricultural schemes in state
ANI NEW DELHI: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union agriculture, rural development and farmers welfare minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the national capital on Monday and discussed the implementation and expansion of various agriculture and related schemes of the state. CM Dhami also discussed the proposed schemes prepared by the state government for the agricultural and horticultural needs of the hilly and plain areas of the state and the economic strength of the farmers. The chief minister informed that the Uttarakhand government has prepared comprehensive schemes of about Rs 3,800 crore with the aim of overall development of the agriculture and horticulture sector and making farmers self-reliant. "These schemes include various aspects like innovation, mechanisation, technical inclusion and promotion of traditional agriculture. The chief minister thanked the Union Agriculture minister for giving in-principle approval of Rs 3,800 crore for the agriculture-related schemes of the state," as per the chief minister's Office (CMO). Apart from this, a scheme of Rs 400 crore has been proposed to establish 10,000 farm machinery banks in the state, which will benefit small, marginal farmers and women. A provision of Rs 16.11 crore has been proposed for the establishment of a Microbiology Laboratory in Uttarakhand Horticulture and Forestry University, Bharsar. Apart from this, the chief minister also requested the Union minister for central assistance for setting up high-quality nurseries, cold storage, sorting and grading units in view of apple production in the state, promoting Kiwi and Dragon Fruit Mission, setting up a Center of Excellence for super foods (mushrooms and exotic vegetables) and setting up an agro tourism school in Pantnagar Agricultural University. On the request of the chief minister, the Union minister gave in-principle consent to extend the time limit for the remaining works of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) 1 and 2. He also assured to give in-principle consent to the proposal of PMGSY 4. The Union minister appreciated the excellent work being done by the Uttarakhand government in various fields of agriculture and rural development. In the meeting, Union Agriculture minister, while giving a positive response to the proposals presented by the chief minister, assured that the agricultural needs of Uttarakhand will be taken into account on a priority basis and all possible support will be provided for the prosperity of the farmers of the state. Considering mechanism to curb ‘indiscriminate' pricing of pesticides, says Agriculture Minister Shivraj Chouhan
Union Minister for Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the authorities are mulling putting in place a 'scientific' mechanism to curb 'indiscriminate' pricing of pesticides. Speaking after the Annual General Meeting of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on Monday, Chouhan said, 'There is a written MRP (Maximum Retail Price) on pesticides etc, but it is not real. Many times, farmers are charged more money.' 'We will try to fix a mechanism for this in a scientific way, so that farmers are not charged indiscriminate prices,' the minister said, adding, 'We will try to make a mechanism based on the cost incurred.' The government is also working to bring a stringent law to check the sale of substandard seeds and spurious pesticides, Chouhan stated. 'The availability and trustworthiness of good seeds is also necessary. If the seed quality is not good then farmers suffer a lot. In this regard too we have decided to put in place a system to ensure that the farmers receive certified seeds.' 'A stringent law should be enacted to curb sale of substandard quality seeds and spurious pesticides. This has been expressed by all. We are working on that,' the minister said. Last month, Chouhan met farmers during the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA), held from May 9 to June 12. 'One thing that I found in the whole country was that people expressed concerns about substandard pesticides and seeds, and they said that many times they get looted and harassed due to this. In India, pesticides are used in a little over two-thirds of the country's total cultivated area, and most of it involves the use of chemical pesticides. Pesticide use in Indian farms According to the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine and Storage (PPQS), which comes under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, the total area under cultivation stood at 213 million hectares in 2023-24 (both rabi and kharif seasons), of which 146 million hectares were under the use of pesticides, while the remaining 67 million hectares did not use any of pesticide. Of the total area under pesticide use, 113 million hectares were under the use of chemical pesticides, 12.8 million hectares under bio-pesticides, and 20 million hectares under both chemical and bio-pesticides. The demand for chemical pesticides has increased by 15 per cent in five years from 69,211 metric tonnes in 2019-20 to 79,706 metric tonnes in 2023-24. Most of this demand is from states like Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Crops that use the most amount of pesticides include cereals, cash crops, vegetables, pulses, and fruits.
