Drew Rasmussen earns his first career All-Star selection as he steps in for Yusei Kikuchi, joining a strong Rays contingent headed to Atlanta for the 2025 Midsummer Classic.
The Tampa Bay Rays have added another player to their growing list of 2025 All-Stars, as right-hander Drew Rasmussen has been chosen to represent the American League in Atlanta. Rasmussen replaces Yusei Kikuchi on the roster as a reserve pitcher. It marks Rasmussen's first All-Star selection and comes during what may be his best season yet.

Through 19 starts, Rasmussen has posted an impressive 2.86 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP over 91 innings, putting him on track to approach his career-high of 146 innings set in 2022. After missing most of 2023 due to major elbow surgery, Rasmussen has made a strong comeback, reestablishing himself as a key pitcher in Tampa Bay's rotation.
Rasmussen's resurgence has been vital for the Rays, especially as they navigate a tough stretch in a competitive AL East. While he struggled in his most recent outing against the Red Sox, it doesn't overshadow his consistent excellence throughout the season. He has become the cornerstone of a rotation that has kept the Rays in the playoff race, with a 50–45 record.
He joins Junior Caminero, Jonathan Aranda, and Brandon Lowe as Rays representatives in this year's Midsummer Classic, though Lowe will not participate due to injury concerns.

With the trade deadline approaching, the Rays are expected to stay cautious about moving any members of their young core. Rasmussen, who signed a contract extension in January, appears firmly in the team's long-term plans as they chase another postseason run.

📊 Ojeda sets new Orlando record with first-half hit against Montréal

Orlando City look to get back to winning ways tonight in front of home support against visiting CF Montréal, and can thank star midfielder Martín Ojeda for a 1-0 lead going into the half-time interval. A classy free-kick strike from the Argentine post-marked his effort into the bottom corner to put the Lions into an expected lead against the bottom-dwelling L'Impact, moving him to ten goals across the 2025 MLS season. Advertisement With that, Ojeda now becomes the proud owner of a new record for Orlando, becoming the first player in club history to reach at least 20 goals and 30 assists. With questions surrounding the midfield ace swirling earlier in the season, Ojeda's form and influence for Orlando remain unquestioned as the club pushes to secure an MLS playoff spot. 📸 Editorial Photo Credit: © Mike Watters | 2025 Jul 12 - Imagn Images

OKC Thunder jersey history No. 33 - Gordon Hayward (2024)

The Oklahoma City Thunder (and the Seattle Supersonics before them) have 51 jersey numbers worn by the players who have suited up for the franchise since its founding at the start of the 1967-68 season. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Thunder Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (34) shoots over Oklahoma City Thunder forward Gordon Hayward (33) during the second half of their game Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Milwaukee Bucks beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 118-93. And while those Supersonics jerseys may not remain part of the franchise history should a new team be established in Seattle as was the case with the return of the Charlotte Hornets, they are part of the Thunder's history today. Advertisement For this article, we continue with the 33rd jersey number in the series, jersey No. 33, with 17 players in total having donned the jersey in the history of the franchise. The 17th of those players did so in the Oklahoma City Thunder era, forward alum Gordon Hayward. After ending his college career at Butler, Hayward was picked up with the ninth overall selection of the 2010 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz. The Indianapolis, Indiana native would play the first seven seasons of his pro career with the Jazz, and also played for the Boston Celtics and Charlotte Hornets before he was dealt to OKC for his last season in the NBA in 2024. During his time suiting up for the Thunder, Hayward wore only jersey No. 33 and put up 5.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference. Yankees predicted to land Diamondbacks star in deadline blockbuster

The trade deadline is always crucial for the New York Yankees. Credit to the Yankees--they're always in the playoff hunt. That means this month, as is always the case, they'll be looking for ways to beef up their roster in their quest for a World Series--something they've been missing since 2009. Advertisement The third base position is an obvious area that the Yankees could look to upgrade. Now that Jazz Chisholm Jr. is back in his natural position at third base, New York is deploying an unproven platoon of Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas at the hot corner. However, one of the most prominent voices in Yankees media believes New York will bring in a much bigger bat to play third. On Friday, Jimmy O'Brien of Jomboy Media predicted that the Yankees would acquire Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez on the most recent episode of the "Talkin' Yanks" podcast. "I think it's Suárez," O'Brien said. "I've been going deep into every trade article, every Reddit forum, everything. We've been saying there's not, like, a 'seems like they're gonna go get that guy,' and this week, the last couple days, that started to present itself. Advertisement Follow The Sporting News On WhatsApp "I reserve the right to change my mind, but for the first time, I spent all day today, every article, I kind of just prepped, and I was reading... it was like, 'Yankees, Eugenio,' and I was like, 'oh, okay.'" Suárez, 33, had an OPS of .863 and 29 home runs, most among all third basemen, entering play on Saturday. He's the biggest rental bat any team could hope to acquire--if the D-backs are willing to move on from him. There will likely be stiff competition to bring in Suárez, because other contending teams like the Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers, and Milwaukee Brewers all need third basemen as well. But the Yankees are the Yankees, so it's unwise to doubt them. More MLB: Dodgers predicted to bring athletic center fielder to Los Angeles
