National-level Maal Hijrah celebration to take place at Mitec this Friday
KUALA LUMPUR: The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) will host the National Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025M celebration at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) here this Friday.
Jakim director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee said His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, the King and Queen of Malaysia are expected to grace the event, which carries the theme Membangun Ummah Madani (Developing a Madani Ummah).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail are also scheduled to attend the ceremony, which will begin at 9.30am and is expected to draw around 8,000 guests.
These include Cabinet ministers, deputy ministers, heads of government departments and agencies, foreign dignitaries and members of the public.
"This year's celebration aims to highlight the importance of drawing lessons from the hijrah in building a progressive Muslim community," Sirajuddin said in a statement today.
He said a Madani ummah embodies the principle of inclusivity in developing a civilised society, not only in terms of physical development, but also in nurturing spiritually excellent human capital.
The highlight of the event will be a Royal Address by His Majesty, as well as the presentation of the National and International Tokoh Maal Hijrah Awards to individuals who have made significant contributions to Islamic development and the advancement of the ummah.
In conjunction with the celebration, a special prayer ceremony to mark the end and beginning of the Islamic year will take place at 6.30pm this Thursday at Masjid Negara (National Mosque).
The ceremony will be attended by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, with prayers led by the Grand Imam Ehsan Mohd Hosni. A special tausiyyah (religious lecture) will also be delivered by Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Izhar Ariff Mohd Kashim from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
"May this year's Maal Hijrah celebration bring renewed hope and unity to Muslims in Malaysia and around the world, in the spirit of togetherness exemplified by Prophet Muhammad SAW in Madinah," said Sirajuddin.

Addressing the conflict between Iran and Israel, Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing recently also told media on June 25 that retaliation from Iran may not be limited to targets in America or Israel. Chan said that the retaliation could be anywhere else, and could stoke up emotions in the region. These conflicts have resulted in greater security concerns, he had said. Shanmugam on June 28 also said that the Government is looking at the possible 'outflows' to Singapore, in response to Thailand recently recriminalising cannabis. 'The nexus between drugs and crime, and terrorism, also needs to be looked at.' 'We try to maintain our openness and our connectivity, and our business-friendly environment,' he said. 'It is a bit early to say what is going to happen, but we have to be more careful.' Thailand's health ministry on June 24 issued an order prohibiting the sale of cannabis for recreational use and requiring a doctor's prescription for any retail purchase. Shanmugam said that when Thailand decriminalised cannabis previously, there were many people with more liberal views who asked if Singapore was going to change as well. 'I said the Singapore Government decides not based on what other countries do. We take a hard look, we look at the science, we look at the social impact, and the actual impact and we run the government of Singapore and the policies in the best interests of Singaporeans,' he said. 'And I am absolutely convinced, the Cabinet is absolutely convinced that the right policy is to be strict on drugs, and you can see, the people who asked for liberalisation, are shutting their eyes deliberately to what is happening around the world and the immense harm.' Decision to review 13MP not made in haste, says Fahmi
Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said the prime minister had asked all ministries to study the draft of the 13MP and submit their feedback to the economy ministry. (Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : The government's decision to review the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) is not a hasty reaction, but one that has gone through a discussion process over the past two weeks, said communications minister Fahmi Fadzil. Fahmi said the discussions began with a draft presented by the economy ministry's secretary-general to the Cabinet. 'We've actually discussed this. I mentioned (previously) that the prime minister had issued a directive to review the draft presented by the economy ministry's secretary-general. 'Any policy, programme or decision must first be presented at a Cabinet meeting. So, on Friday last week (June 20), the prime minister requested all ministries to study the draft and submit their feedback to the economy ministry,' the government spokesman said at a press conference after launching the Nadi Aspirasi Nasional Bersama Anak Muda programme organised by the community communications department (J-Kom) here today. Following that, he said, a special Cabinet meeting was held last Monday to review the feedback from the ministries. 'During the meeting, it was found that many matters raised by the ministries needed to be considered by the economy ministry in drawing up the 13MP document. 'That was one of the reasons why, at last Wednesday's Cabinet meeting – the latest one – it was decided that finance minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan would take on the duties and functions of the economy minister,' he said. Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli was reported to have questioned the government's move to review the 13MP, calling it a hasty response to social media criticism. This followed chief secretary to the government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar's announcement yesterday that Amir had been tasked with 'reviewing and revamping' the 13MP, while concurrently performing the duties and functions of the economy minister, effective immediately. The 13MP is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament on July 31.
