Thelo Aasgaard: 'Easy' Rangers decision and World Cup dream
"I'm delighted to be here," said the 23-year-old. "It's been quite a few days waiting for it but I'm really happy to get it over the line.
"When I heard [about Rangers' interest], I was over the moon. I've played against the manager a few times and I've always seen myself in his team.
"It was quite an easy decision to be fair. I love the amount of games here, the stature of the club and that itself is enough.

"I think just having the trust from the manager is really important and just being here one day, I can already see he wants me to express myself in his system and I'm really looking forward to play a part.
"I remember when we played his Swansea teams, we never really touched the ball!
"I always thought it'd be fun to play in that sort of team."
Asgaard joins Rangers from Luton, a club he only signed for at the beginning of this year.
He did spend time in Liverpool's academy before moving to Wigan, where he made 163 appearances.
"I played for Liverpool for five years," he said. "I was a young kid, 14, moved to Wigan, and kind of developed through the academy there and made my debut when I was 18.
"It was four or five years of progression, really. It kind of started off quite raw, playing a lot of games, but just finding my feet.
"And then coming into the age of 19, 20, I really started to impose myself on our team. We won the league and won it well and got promoted, and it was a chance to show myself in the championship.
"I think I did quite well, although we got relegated. But last season and the season before was really where I started to step into my own body and really become the player I am.
"I grew a lot of confidence and scored some goals."
A full Norway international, Aasgaard made his debut for his country in March, scoring and bagging an assist in a 5-0 win over Moldova.
"They really took me in well," he said. "To be fair, I feel really part of the group. We've got a top, top group. We've had a strong start to the World Cup qualifiers.
"So, yeah, to play in the World Cup next year is a big goal for me.
"Hopefully, I can show the manager that I'm ready with some performances here.
"I feel at home already. The facilities are fantastic. It's a really good change in me. I can't wait.
"It just feels like the right thing in my career. To be playing in front of some amazing fans at an amazing stadium, it's what I've been dreaming of.
"I'd say I have a bit of flair, I'm full of confidence and not afraid to shoot from distance.
"I like to link up with my teammates and form connections at the top of the pitch.
"I like to be part of the build-up phase as well as getting in the box and getting my goals."

Wayne Rooney 'lands £800k deal' to be Match of the Day pundit after Lineker exit
Manchester United and England icon Wayne Rooney is reportedly set to join new Match of the Day hosts Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates as a pundit from next season Wayne Rooney has reportedly signed an £800,000 deal to be a pundit on Match of the Day from next season. The England icon will join the BBC's flagship show following the departure of Gary Lineker as its host. Lineker had fronted the programme for 25 years before departing at the end of last season. He had been due to continue hosting FA Cup fixtures and next summer's World Cup, but left the BBC altogether after controversy surrounding a social media post containing an anti-Semetic trope. He has been replaced by Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates who will rotate as host of Match of the Day and Match of the Day 2, the Sunday highlights show. And the trio will be joined by Rooney who will appear as a pundit, report The Sun. Rooney has dipped his toe into more punditry on the BBC and Sky Sports since he was sacked as Plymouth manager on New Year's Eve. The deal is said to include the opportunity of a two-year extension, while Rooney is expected to feature as a pundit on the World Cup alongside the likes of Alan Shearer, Jurgen Klinsmann, Rio Ferdinand and Joe Hart. Rooney, 39, is Manchester United's record goal scorer and held the England record at the time of his retirement. Harry Kane has since surpassed his tally for the Three Lions. He burst on to the scene at boyhood club Everton before moving to Old Trafford where he scored 253 times in 559 appearances, winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League along the way. Rooney returned to Everton in 2017 before heading Stateside to DC United. He became player-manager at Derby in 2020, where he hung up his boots. He then returned to Washington to manage DC United, before unsuccessful spells at Birmingham and Plymouth. This latest career move could signal an end to his managerial aspirations. Lineker hosted his final Match of the Day in May, and signed off with an emotional statement. "Alan [Shearer] and Micah [Richards], I suspect our paths will cross again very shortly," he said. "Let me take this opportunity to thank all of the other pundits that I've had the pleasure of working with over the last 25 years, you've made my job so much easier. "Also, a huge thank you to those you don't see at home: the work that goes into making this iconic show is a huge team effort. From the editors, to the analysis team, from the commentators to the floor managers, from the producers to the camera operators, from the PAs to the subs, thank you all, you're the very best. "Rather like my football career, everyone else did all the hard work and I got the plaudits. It's been an absolute privilege to host Match of the Day for a quarter of a century. It's been utterly joyous. I'd like to wish Gabby, Mark and Kelly for when they sit in this chair - the programme is in the best of hands. "And my final thank you goes to all of you. Thank you for watching. Thank you for all of your love and support over the years. It's been so special - and I'm sorry that your team was always on last. Time to say goodbye. Goodbye." Celtic star admits Scotland national team call-up is a target and says ‘I'm sure at some point it WILL happen'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LUKE McCOWAN is living the dream at boyhood heroes Celtic. Now he's aiming to make a Scotland call-up a reality. But McCowan, 27, is desperate for more, and would love to make the breakthrough into Steve Clarke's squad for the World Cup qualifiers. Asked if Scotland recognition was a target, he said: "Of course. "If it comes along, I'd be really honoured to go and put that top on and represent my country. "Just now, it's not happening. "But I'm sure that if I was to play well enough in the times ahead, it will hopefully come along for me. "Scotland is not something that I'm totally focused on. "I'm focused on Celtic, but if that was to come along, I would be absolutely delighted. "That's an aim for anybody playing at a club this size, to go and play for your national team. "It's outwith my control, I just need to keep doing what I have been doing, and if I can add numbers and more game time in the league this year, hopefully I'll get a chance. Nygren 'will be Hoops' best transfer this summer' plus Kuhn, Yamada latest | Celtic transfer special "You would always like to think that you have something to offer at Celtic, so why can't I do it with Scotland? "I'm sure at some point, if I was to keep the level I have been performing at here, it will happen. "And if it does, then I'll come out with open arms and be delighted with it." McCowan is right to believe he CAN break into the Scotland set-up soon. He's proved at the champions he's got the technical ability to cope with top-level football. If he can play regularly for gaffer Brendan Rodgers this season then Clarke must consider giving him a chance in a Dark Blue jersey. McCowan added: "I'm feeling great. "It's good to get a pre-season and just work on the parts of my game that I need to improve on. "Hopefully by the time the league comes round I'll have improved, and I can use that going into the season." After making the move from Dens Park last August, McCowan played his part in Celtic's title-winning season. But he's determined to improve in the months and years ahead and get even better. McCowan said: "Every day is a learning day, and you want to take as much information as you can when you're playing with guys like Cal McGregor, Jamesy Forrest, and all the leaders in that dressing room. 5 "I just need to hopefully become as much of a leader as I can this year and have another good season. "You can't just go into a changing room full of league winners and cup winners and act like one of them. "You need to learn that from those guys. "I learned last year, and it's about learning again this year and using it as much as I can and using the experience from last year. "I'm feeling good going into pre-season. "And I believe I can improve again, 100 per cent. "If you don't think like that, there's no point in continuing. "Every day is learning, I need to stay motivated and hope that this season could be even bigger than the one last year. "It's about repeating it and probably doing better than what I did last season. "It's about adding more numbers again and more creativity, whatever it may be. "I've always looked at my stats and used them as something to work on. "I've worked on it forever now, I've always done it and I believe that will continue this year. Aberdeen brutally troll EVERY Premiership rival with video including Celtic captain crying & Rangers TV's 'corrupt' clip "But it's about using the good of last year and then trying to improve the bits that maybe weren't so good for myself, and making them better for the season ahead." McCowan took time off in Italy and Spain during the summer break — but was soon back training hard. He added: "You rest for three or four days and then your mind just goes. "You need to get a bit of sweat on and try and get back in there. "I was on the treadmills and pitches, but then you get the feet up as well, so it's nice." McCowan has admitted he's been left gutted by the exit of close pal Greg Taylor who has joined Greek outfit PAOK. They would regularly hang out at each other's homes — with the Hoops ace revealing he failed in his attempts to keep the left-back at Celts. McCowan said: "There's an empty space in the changing room — and an empty space in my living room! "We were always round each other's houses. "The two of us are the exact same, and it's sad as we both would have loved to play beside each other longer. 5 "But where Greg's career's taken him is a credit to himself, he's a really amazing person. "His family has been over with him as well, and I'm sure they will have a fantastic lifestyle there. "Greece will be a nice place to visit on holiday at some point, so I'm sure I will. "I tried to convince Greg to stay, of course I did. "But football is always moving and always changing. "He'll go on to that challenge with an open mind, and I'm sure he'll do great there." The Liverpool striker, 28, and his brother Andre, 25, died in a car crash on Thursday. United skipper Fernandes and Dalot were at the funeral in Portugal on Saturday. A source said: 'Bruno and Diogo are heartbroken and in shock after attending the funeral. 'United's players have rallied around them. They've been offered a week's extended leave and counselling or support. 'The pair played with Jota for ten years in the national side and won the Nations League together only a few weeks ago.' Following Jota's death, Fernandes wrote: 'May you and your brother find the peace you need.' Liverpool have also delayed the squad's return for pre-season in the wake of Jota's tragic death. 4 The Merseyside club delayed the first group of Arne Slot's players' proposed return to training, which was scheduled for Friday. They will instead now return on Monday. Slot's team are scheduled to play their first pre-season match on Sunday 13 July against Preston at Deepdale. Matches against AC Milan and Yokohoma FM will follow on 26 and 30 July during a tour of Japan.
