Ennis Rakestraw chest injury gets positive initial reported diagnosis
Lions fans traumatized by last season's calamitous number of defensive injuries were unceremoniously thrown into the wringer on Day 1 of training camp.
After Levi Onwuzurike was confirmed to be out for the season with an ACL, Ennis Rakestraw left practice with a chest injury.
The 2024 calendar year was a rough one for Ennis Rakestraw medically. At the end of 2023 or early 2024, he had core muscle surgery. During last season, he missed ten games with two separate hamstring injuries.
This offseason appeared to be a healthy one for Rakestraw, but the good feelings were immediately put in jeopardy today.
The possibilities for a chest injury include a pec rupture which Lions fans have seen too frequently in the past couple years. Last season, Emmanuel Moseley ruptured his pec in early August, and Kyle Peko did the same in Week 6. The year prior saw CJ Gardner-Johnson rupture his pec in Week 2.
Fortunately, the early news is excellent for Rakestraw as the initial diagnosis as reported by Ian Rapaport is a simple chest contusion (bruise). If the diagnosis holds true, it's an excellent outcome, and he should be back soon without any long-term effects.
This scenario is déjà vu of last season when Terrion Arnold had a pec injury during preseason that may have also been a simple contusion.
#Lions first-round CB Terrion Arnold, who left practice yesterday with a pec injury, is not expected to miss time in the regular season, sources say. Some good news.
There will likely be many more injury scares over the course of training camp and preseason, and hopefully they all turn out as benign as Rakestraw's.

Texans WR Tank Dell makes an appearance at training camp
Tank Dell might not be back in 2025 as he recovers from a devastating knee injury, but that doesn't mean the third-year Houston Texans receiver isn't helping the team in other ways off the field. Texans owner and CEO Cal McNair praised Dell for being an essential part of the team from the sidelines and supporting his teammates during training camp on the sidelines. The former third-round pick was seen at practice in front of fans on Saturday, interacting with the Houston faithful while signing autographs. 'He's got an unbreakable spirit,' Cal McNair said. 'It's showing up in his rehab and we can't wait to get him back here as soon as we can get him.' Dell, who suffered a season-ending torn ACL, LCL and MCL, along with a dislocated knee, will start the year on the PUP list. According to KPRC2 Sports' Aaron Wilson, the speedy receiver isn't expected to be cleared for contact before the end of the regular season. While he's not expected to be clear, Texans general manager Nick Caserio hasn't ruled him out for the season, though he also didn't put a timetable on when he'll be cleared for drills. "Tank's had a good attitude," Caserio said. "Been in the building essentially every day. He is working really hard." DeMeco Ryans mentioned that Dell has been "crushing" the rehab process and has been in a great "headspace," but also wouldn't put a timeline on a recovery timeline. "Whenever Tank is ready to go back, he'll be back.," Ryans said. "I'm concerned about Tank as a young man, just getting back healthy, physically and mentally. When that time is set, he'll be back for us.' Dell, who underwent his latest surgery in March, was seen walking around without any noticeable limp. He's yet to speak to the media, signs are pointing toward his role maybe expanding closer toward the season's end. The Texans return to training camp on Monday.

‘Devastated' Giants receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton suffers season-ending Achilles tear at training camp
Not again. The thought process had to be the same for Bryce Ford-Wheaton and so many others within the Giants on Sunday when testing confirmed that the depth receiver and special-teams coverage standout suffered a season-ending torn Achilles. Ford-Wheaton, 25, crumbled to the ground without contact at the snap during one play in Sunday's practice. He got to his feet, took another step or two, spiked his helmet in frustration and went down again. 4 Giants receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton is tended to after going down with an Achilles injury on July 27, 2025. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST 4 Giants QB Russell Wilson (l.), head coach Brian Daboll (second from l.) and others try to comfort Bryce Ford-Wheaton as he's carted off with an Achilles injury on July 27, 2025. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST Teammates quickly ran over, dropped to a knee and huddled around the emotional Ford-Wheaton as he was loaded onto the medical cart and taken off the field. 'I'd be lying if I said I wasn't devastated!' Ford-Wheaton wrote on X. 'I did everything by the book! Didn't take a single shortcut, left no stone unturned, invested everything into my body and my health this year. 'I'm not sure why me but I promise I'm not going out on these terms. It's a long road ahead for sure but I know this is just part of Gods plan for me no matter how tough it may seem right now. Thank you all for your prayers, please continue to keep me in them. I WILL be back that's a promise!! God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers!' 4 Bryce Ford-Wheaton is carted off at Giants practice after tearing his Achilles on July 27, 2025. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST 4 Bryce Ford-Wheaton is carted off at Giants practice after tearing his Achilles on July 27, 2025. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST It is the second time in three seasons that Ford-Wheaton suffered a season-ending injury during the preseason. He tore his ACL just before cut day as an undrafted rookie with a strong chance to make the team in 2023, and bounced back to play in 14 games last season. The Giants signed linebacker Chris Board during the offseason to fill a similar special teams role. And undrafted rookie receiver Dalen Cambre — a long shot to make the roster when camp opened — is in the NFL right now because of his special-teams excellence in college.

He appeared in all 17 games (15 starts) last season and tallied 47 tackles, six passes defensed and one forced fumble. His career totals include 85 tackles and 11 passes defensed.
