Minister Mahadevappa inspects Chamundi Temple preparations for Aashada month

Time of India2 days ago
Mysuru: In view of the heavy influx of devotees during the Hindu month of Aashada to Sri Chamundeshwari Temple atop the Chamundi Hills, district minister HC Mahadevappa visited the religious site on Sunday to inspect the facilities arranged for devotees and tourists.
After the first Friday during Aashada on June 27 saw over 1.5 lakh devotees visit the temple, the minister reviewed crowd management plans, transportation facilities, and security arrangements as the Aashada Friday celebrations will be held on July 4, 11, and 18. Besides, Chamundeshwari Vardhanti will be celebrated on July 17, which also attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees to the hill shrine.
To streamline the darshan process, the authorities decided to open an additional ticket counter near the Nandi Statue on Aashada Fridays, as well as on the following Saturdays and Sundays.
This move aims to reduce waiting time and improve accessibility for devotees.
During the inspection, Mahadevappa stressed the importance of efficient inter-departmental coordination and robust security measures. He expressed satisfaction with the preparations and assured the public that the administration is fully committed to providing a safe and smooth darshan experience of goddess Chamundeshwari.
The minister also interacted with devotees waiting in the free darshan queue after they arrived by city buses from Lalitha Mahal Grounds.

MJ Roopa, secretary of the Shree Chamundeshwari Kshetra Development Authority, said that over 1.25 lakh devotees visited the temple on the first Aashada Shukravara. She noted that some changes were implemented following the initial review meeting conducted by the deputy commissioner and the minister. "To ease congestion, we have introduced block-wise queue systems and appointed nodal officers to manage drinking water supply.
Devotees will now be moved forward block by block, preventing overcrowding near the temple premises," she said.
On the first Aashada Friday, 1,881 devotees availed the Rs 2,000 special darshan, and 3,416 devotees took the Rs 300 ticket.
Zilla panchayat CEO S Ukesh Kumar, Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif, and deputy commissioners of police M Mutturaj and KS Sundar Raj accompanied the minister during the inspection.
Local traders at the Chamundi Hills submitted a memorandum requesting permission to open their shops on days other than Friday. As per current regulations, all commercial establishments are required to remain closed on Fridays due to the high volume of devotees. However, traders claimed they were also being forced to close on Saturdays and Sundays, significantly affecting their income during this crucial season.
In the presence of local leaders Shambulinga and Sridhar Nayak, the traders said that their earnings during Aashada sustain them for the rest of the year. "Being shut for 12 days during this month would be unsustainable," they said.
Acknowledging their concerns, Mahadevappa said, "While the safety and convenience of devotees remain the highest priority, we also recognise the livelihood needs of traders. The deputy commissioner will assess the situation and take appropriate action. A balanced approach is necessary, especially given the higher-than-expected turnout this year."

Disney's new Abu Dhabi park underway : Set to transform regional tourism

Disney's upcoming Abu Dhabi park on Yas Island promises a unique blend of Emirati culture and Disney magic. (Representative Image) When Disney announced its first new theme park in 16 years, to be located in Abu Dhabi, it wasn't just about bringing back the classic Disney magic. The ambitious project promises to deliver an experience that is 'authentically Emirati in style, but fully Disney in experience,' said Dr. Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi, CEO of Miral, the Abu Dhabi-based company partnering with Disney, in a media statement. An Emirati Disney Destination Like No Other The upcoming Disney park on Yas Island aims to blend the rich culture of the UAE with Disney's iconic entertainment. 'We want visitors to feel the culture of the UAE while enjoying the magic of Disney,' Dr. Al Zaabi told reporters in an exclusive interview. This destination will offer guests not only magical rides and familiar characters but also a deep sense of the UAE's spirit and soul. The project, officially signed off in April, is currently in the design phase, with Disney and Miral's development teams holding regular workshops to shape the park's features. This will be Disney's seventh theme park worldwide and the first in over a decade, further establishing Yas Island as a global family entertainment hub. Unmatched Accessibility and Regional Impact Strategically positioned between Asia, Europe, and Africa, the new Disney park is set to become the most accessible Disney destination worldwide. Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo by Taboola by Taboola Over 500 million tourists live within a four- to five-hour flight radius, making it an ideal location for travelers. The park is less than 30 minutes from Dubai and just minutes from Abu Dhabi's key airports, making it a prime draw for both residents and international visitors. 'This will be a game-changer for regional tourism. We're filling a massive geographic gap between the Far East and Europe,' said Dr. Al Zaabi. Disney's partnership with Miral also highlights confidence in the UAE's infrastructure and expertise. 'They were impressed with what we've already built Ferrari World, SeaWorld, Warner Bros. World. It showed that we can deliver at global standards,' Al Zaabi explained. 'It's a testament to the quality, safety, and strategic vision of Abu Dhabi.' Miral's Vision: Continuous Growth and Fresh Experiences Miral's ten-year master plan aims to keep Yas Island dynamic and fresh by adding at least one new experience every year. This includes expanding hotel infrastructure, developing themed zones, and launching new attractions. 'We are expanding Warner Bros. World, adding more hotels, and continuing to invest in family zones and indoor offerings,' the CEO said. Regarding land availability, Al Zaabi confirmed that Miral still holds a significant land bank on Yas Island. 'We are still designing and developing several attractions. Over the past 15 to 18 years, we have grown organically, adding rides and experiences. We'll continue with the same effort and mindset. ' The company also plans to expand the Warner Bros. World Yas Island hotel, managed by Hilton, with announcements about further expansions coming soon. Breaking the Summer Tourism Myth Miral has also challenged the longstanding belief that summer is a slow period for tourism in the region. In fact, over the last three years, Yas Island's attractions have enjoyed occupancy levels between 90% and 98% during July and August, numbers comparable to traditional peak months like December. 'Summer has become just as busy. We've cracked that myth,' Dr. Al Zaabi stated, attributing the success to indoor attractions, family-focused campaigns, and growing interest from key markets including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, India, China, and Europe. The recent 13,000-square-metre expansion at Yas Waterworld, featuring more than 20 rides and slides, was deliberately timed to open during summer, marking Miral's third major attraction launch in peak heat. 'Every time you come back to Yas Island, you'll find something new. That's our commitment,' the CEO promised. Tailored Experiences and Cultural Connection Beyond physical expansions, Miral prioritizes creating customized experiences that reflect visitor preferences. From parent-child slides to ladies-only days, many initiatives stem from direct guest feedback. 'It's not about what we want. It's about you, our guests and what you want. That's how we measure success,' Dr. Al Zaabi explained. One of Miral's most viral marketing campaigns, which achieved 1.4 billion views, originated from a junior intern's idea brought to life by the team. Miral also selects brand ambassadors carefully to resonate with diverse audiences. Bollywood and Hollywood stars have helped elevate Yas Waterworld and Warner Bros. World's profiles in India and beyond, emphasizing Yas Island's role as a cultural melting pot with global appeal. Economic Growth and Future Prospects Tourism is a key pillar in the UAE's economic future, and Miral sees itself as a major contributor. The sector aims to create 178,000 new jobs and increase its GDP contribution from $62 billion to $90 billion by 2031. 'Every new expansion means more jobs, longer visitor stays, and more local spending. That's the ripple effect we're focused on,' the CEO said. Currently, Yas Island visitors stay an average of 2.4 nights, with plans to increase this closer to three nights as new attractions open. While the exact opening date for Disney Abu Dhabi remains under wraps, Al Zaabi confirmed that design work is progressing rapidly. The site benefits from strong connectivity, including the future GCC railway, upgraded Abu Dhabi airport, and existing transit links. 'This is not just a win for Abu Dhabi. It's a win for the UAE and for the entire region,' he concluded. 'Having Disney next to Warner Bros., SeaWorld, and Ferrari World… that's something no other destination in the world can offer.'

UAE: Visitors warned to plan their exit or renew visa early to avoid fines, what you need to know

UAE travel experts urge visitors to plan visa renewals early as flights fill up during peak summer season/Representative Image Travel agencies across the UAE have urged visit visa holders to take proactive steps in managing their visa status as peak summer demand, rising airfares, and regional airspace disruptions complicate travel plans. Experts warn that overstaying a visa can lead to avoidable fines, especially with many outbound flights fully booked or delayed due to ongoing geopolitical tensions. Flight Disruptions and Rising Travel Demand Subair Thekepurathvalappil, Senior Manager at Wisefox Tourism, highlighted the increasing challenges visitors face during the summer holidays speaking to a local news outlet, Khaleej Times. 'Some flights are fully booked. When visitors can't get a ticket in time, they may end up staying extra days and paying fines while exiting the country,' he said. 'We are urging visitors to act quickly and plan in advance to avoid these situations.' He explained that schools closing for summer break has led to a surge in outbound travel, making it even harder to find available seats. Visitors who have not planned their return or applied for a visa extension risk being stranded due to both high demand and limited flight options. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Haryana Mosquito Crisis Solved by Strange New Device (See How) Mosquito Eliminator Read More Undo Though the UAE has not experienced widespread cancellations, Subair noted that flights from parts of India and the Middle East have faced delays or suspensions, owing to airspace closures linked to Iran-Israel tensions. 'Flights from cities in India and other parts of the Middle East have been delayed or cancelled due to the ongoing regional tensions,' he said. 'Visitors should plan ahead to avoid disruptions.' UAE Remains Safe, But Action Is Needed Early Despite regional tensions, the UAE continues to stand out as a safe and stable destination, according to industry professionals. Bharath Aidasani, Managing Partner at Pluto Travels, confirmed that the UAE's strong governance gives travellers confidence to remain in the country. 'People have confidence in the government here. All we ask is that visitors don't wait until the last few days of their visa to act,' he said. 'If you're looking to renew or extend your visa, plan it at least 20 days in advance.' Aidasani also noted a noticeable increase in visa extension inquiries, especially from nationals of Jordan, Lebanon, and other Middle Eastern countries where airspace closures have affected outbound travel. What Should Travellers Do? To avoid fines, stress, or disruptions, experts strongly recommend the following actions: Monitor your visa's expiry date carefully Begin renewal or extension procedures at least 20 days in advance Use official government portals or trusted travel agents for visa services Stay connected with airlines via websites and mobile apps for real-time update Contact consulates or relevant authorities through hotlines for assistance Check for flight delays or cancellations before heading to the airport 'Whether flying into or out of the UAE, visitors and residents should check for delays or cancellations before heading to the airport,' Aidasani said.
