Major Edinburgh Airport change for passengers flying this summer
Holidaymakers flying from the country's busiest hub can take advantage of a new addition this summer
Passengers flying from Edinburgh Airport this summer can now make use of a new lounge after the opening of Escape Lounges in its first ever Scottish location.
Fliers who are heading off on holiday or work trips can access the lounge before they board their flights either by pre booking online or on the day. The major addition to Scotland's biggest and busiest airport was announced today, Friday, June 27.
Airport bosses have said passengers will get to experience a 'final taste of Scotland' before taking off. Prices start from £39.99 per person for the lounge, which is now open.
They say the lounge reflects the city's unique character and natural beauty. Referred to as the greenest city in the UK, Edinburgh's connection to nature is reflected in the lounge's design, where deep greens evoke its lush parks and gardens, and sandy tones mirror its historic stone buildings.
The lounge's design blends Edinburgh's history and modernity, with integrated planters and greenery reflecting the city's seamless mix of tradition and contemporary flair.
And the walls show artistic representations of the city, from the medieval Old Town and elegant Georgian New Town to the vibrant waterfront of Leith.
Passengers can now visit the airport lounge if booked online in advance from £39.99 per person, guaranteeing a comfortable start to their journey, or can opt for walk-in access on their day of travel for £49 per person.
Escape Lounges also offers complimentary access to numerous cardholder members, including Priority Pass and DragonPass.
Fliers will find it next to Gate 4 and the British Airways Lounge. It is open daily from 4:00am to 10:00pm, offering passengers from all airlines a space to relax and eat and drink before boarding their flight.
It also has a selection of complimentary food and drink, including seasonal breakfasts and locally inspired dishes and drinks, high-speed Wi-Fi, power outlets and real-time flight information.
And guests can take advantage of a digital library which has access to more than 7,000 global publications and areas designated for work and relaxation.
Rob Hassard, Head of Growth, Experiences for CAVU, the parent company of Escape Lounges said: "Our mission is to transform the airport experience, and we're thrilled to be opening our newest Escape Lounge at Edinburgh Airport.
" Our elevated offering gives all guests flying out of the region the chance to enjoy an Escape to Remember – through a combination of exceptional food and drink, attentive service, and a beautifully designed lounge, all inspired by the local region.'
Gail Taylor, chief commercial officer (XAero) at Edinburgh Airport said: ' We are committed to elevating the travel experience for our passengers, and the opening of this brand-new Escape Lounge - the first of its kind in Scotland - is another significant step forward for us
"We're particularly proud of how Edinburgh and Scotland are reflected throughout the lounge, ensuring our passengers enjoy a final taste of Scotland before they depart.
"We look forward to welcoming them and helping them start their journey in a relaxed and comfortable setting.'

Iceland supermarkets make major change to checkouts that will spark controversy
Iceland supermarkets make major change to checkouts that will spark controversy The technology is being tested in two of the retailer's stores and could be rolled out further if the trials are successful Cameras embedded into the checkout process will examine shoppers' features Iceland is rolling out facial recognition technology at its tills in a revolutionary overhaul designed to curb theft and safeguard employees, with two branches already trialling the advanced system. Cameras embedded into the checkout process will examine shoppers' features and cross-reference them with a database of individuals known for causing disturbances, alerting staff when there's a match. Following successful trials, Iceland might introduce this system more broadly among its locations. Facewatch, the surveillance software, is already employed by numerous retail chains including Home Bargains, BandM, and several Frasers Group brands such as Flannels, House of Fraser, Sports Direct, and Evans Cycles. An official from Iceland expressed: "Following a robust due diligence process, we can confirm that our facial recognition trial is now live in two stores and will expand further this year." He continued: "This is part of our continued investment into tackling violent retail crime and protecting the safety of our colleagues and customers." Article continues below The early part of the year saw Iceland announce intentions to inaugurate 20 additional Iceland and Food Warehouse shops, along with the introduction of a grand new £100 million distribution hub occupying 500,000 square feet in Warrington. This large distribution centre located at Omega Park Site in Warrington began operations with GXO as a partner in February, providing goods to around 350 Iceland outlets throughout Wales, the north west of England, and the Scottish borders. In December, Iceland introduced an initiative to support the senior community by offering a 10% discount every Tuesday to those aged over 60 at both Iceland and The Food Warehouse stores, with no minimum spend required. Customers can avail of the discount by showing a valid form of identification such as a senior bus pass, driving licence, senior railcard, or freedom pass. Article continues below Iceland's managing director, Richard Walker, expressed his contentment with the success of the scheme: "We are so pleased with how well the over-60s discount has been received by the public and love hearing stories from customers who are benefiting from the discount." He further commented on the ongoing financial challenges: "The cost of living crisis continues to cause distress in the everyday lives of these customers and that's why we want to keep doing what we can to support them."

Scottish troops set for relocation with high-readiness posting in Cyprus
The soldiers of 4th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland (4 SCOTS) have been based at Bourlon Barracks at the Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire for the last 10 years. During that time they have been able to 'put down roots' – building families and friendships, and continuing 'proud' Scottish traditions including the Highland games. The new posting will see them relocate to the British Sovereign Base Area in Dhekelia, Cyprus, with the first flights scheduled for Saturday. Once there the battalion will stand ready to respond at short notice to emerging situations across the Middle East and North Africa. At the same time they will be tasked with supporting peacekeeping efforts and protecting key military infrastructure on the island. Captain Craig Taylor, who has been with the battalion throughout its time at Bourlon Barracks, said the move will be a 'big change' for the troops. 'We've had 10 solid years of stability here in Catterick. It's been a place where soldiers could put down roots, raise families, and grow professionally,' he said. 'Moving to Cyprus will be a big change for us, not just in terms of the climate. 'This is an exciting opportunity that soldiers have been training hard for. It's not a short-term tour or exercise – it's a full overseas posting which gives us the chance to experience new cultures and ways of life. 'Professionally, it sharpens our edge. We'll be held at high readiness to deploy anywhere in the region, and beyond which is of real strategic importance to the UK.' It is not the first overseas posting for the battalion, which has been involved in operations in the likes of Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo since its formation in 2006. Closer to home, 4 SCOTS also provided security support for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, provided emergency aid during the 2018 Saddleworth Moor wildfires, and took part in the national Covid-19 response. Despite being more than 2,000 miles from Scotland, the battalion intends to take its traditions with it, with events including regimental competitions and Burns Night celebrations remaining 'firm fixtures' in the calendar. Capt Taylor added: 'We're proud of everything we've achieved here. 'But now it's time to pack up, push forward, and embed our Scottish identity into a new location.'
