'The Commission has viewed the matter very seriously and has decided to blacklist the said Assessor, pending investigation and final verdict in the matter. As an exemplary action, it has been decided that the renewal of existing number of seats of the said college in Under-graduate and Post- graduate courses shall not be done for the AY 2025-26. Further, the application for increase of seats and starting of new courses for both UG & PG received by the Medical Assessment & Rating Board for AY 2025-26 shall be cancelled and not processed further," NMC said in press release dated July 2.
Meanwhile, an official at MoHFW, said, 'The report has been recently examined, and appropriate action is under consideration," without divulging any further details.

Chennai Cocaine Case: Conditional Bail Granted To Actors Srikanth And Krishna
Chennai: Actors Srikanth and Krishna have been granted conditional bail by the Madras High Court in the Chennai cocaine case that has rocked the Tamil film industry. The two actors, arrested in connection with an alleged high-profile drug racket, have been ordered to report daily at the Nungambakkam Police Station as part of their bail conditions. The actors were arrested after police arrested Prasad, a former AIADMK functionary accused of supplying cocaine to actor Srikanth, and Kevin, who allegedly sold drugs to Krishna. A Ghana national named John and another individual, Pradeep, were also taken into custody. Police say Kevin was caught with cocaine, referred to as ganja, methamphetamine, and Rs 45,000 in cash. Krishna allegedly consumed and shared drugs with friends and was part of WhatsApp groups used to coordinate drug use. Srikanth is believed to have had direct links with a drug cartel, having both purchased and used narcotics supplied by Prasad. Both actors belong to prominent film families. Srikanth has acted in around 70 films, while Krishna is the son of a film producer and brother of filmmaker Vishnu Varadhan, and has starred in celebrated Tamil films including Anjali, Iruvar, and Thalapathy. Reports suggest that other actors may be under the police radar in connection with the case. Following the controversy, Kerala-based film producers have made anti-drug affidavits mandatory on film sets. Law enforcement authorities have issued a stern warning that withholding information about drug possession or usage will now be treated as a criminal offence.

ED uncovers forgery in private medical college admissions: Seizes assets worth Rs 18 crore in fake NRI quota scam
The Enforcement Directorate Monday said authorities in West Bengal and Odisha did not take any action against admission of ineligible candidates in certain private medical colleges under the NRI quota despite the MEA providing 'categorical' information of 'forgery'. The federal probe agency said it has seized 'incriminating' evidence during searches in this case in the past. A fixed deposit worth Rs 6.42 crore of a private college in West Bengal has been provisionally attached, the ED said. It had earlier attached assets worth Rs 12.33 crore of some colleges and individuals involved in these alleged irregularities. Probe has found that the managements of certain private colleges – offering MBBS, MD and MS courses — in these states colluded with agents to create 'fake' papers for candidates, such as embassy documents of NRIs and family tree, the ED said. 'These private medical colleges were paying agents to prepare fake documents. The agents approached and obtained credentials of unrelated NRIs by paying money and used these to prepare fake documents and projected these NRIs as sponsors for students.' 'In some cases, the agents and medical colleges used the same set of NRI sponsor documents for two to three different and unrelated candidates,' the agency said. It claimed that this has been done to show compliance with guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court in this matter. The ED said 'huge commissions' were being paid for this illegal act. 'Despite categorical information of forgery in cases of certain NRI sponsors provided by the Ministry of External Affairs, no action has been taken by concerned state authorities,' the probe agency said. Various Indian consulates/embassies in foreign countries have informed that NRI certificates of sponsor in many cases, which were used to secure admissions in these private medical colleges under the NRI quota, are 'not genuine', it added.
