Parliament Monsoon Session Live: Both Houses adjourned amid Opposition uproar over Bihar voter roll
Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju and Arjun Ram Meghwal on Thursday reached the chamber of Congress president and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge to hold talks amid the ongoing deadlock in Parliament. The ministers also met Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who was present in Kharge's room. Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has alleged that the figures presented by the Modi government in Parliament prove what he called 'institutional Manuism' and systematic denial of rights to marginalised communities. Quoting official data in his X post, Gandhi claimed that in central universities across India, 83% of posts reserved for ST professors, 80% for OBC professors and 64% for SC professors have been deliberately left vacant. Similarly, he said 65% of posts for ST associate professors, 69% for OBCs and 51% for SCs remain unfilled. Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan formally entered the Rajya Sabha today, taking oath as a Member of Parliament in Tamil. Haasan, who was recently elected to the Upper House with DMK's support, was administered the oath by deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh. The government has dismissed suggestions that Operation Sindoor was launched under international pressure, clarifying it was a direct response to a "barbaric cross-border terror attack" by Pakistan-backed militants. Replying to a question raised by a Samajwadi Party MP, the government said the operation aimed to dismantle terrorist infrastructure and neutralize militants poised to infiltrate India. "India's actions were focused, measured, and non-escalatory. Pakistan, however, attempted targeting Indian civilian areas, in addition to some military facilities. These provocations and escalatory actions by Pakistan were met with a strong and decisive response from the Indian armed forces, inflicting significant damage on the Pakistani military. Subsequently, on 10 May 2025, the Director General of Military Operations of Pakistan approached his Indian counterpart to request for cessation of firing and military activities, which was agreed to later that day," the government said in its reply. Pakistan-backed terror to be in focus at two-day Intelligence Bureau conference
Intelligence and security agencies will discuss infiltration along the western border, the sharing of real-time intelligence against terror groups, dismantling their logistics and funding networks, and other national security issues at a two-day National Security Strategies (NSS) Conference of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in Delhi on Friday and Saturday. Union home minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the conference. (PTI) Officials said the country's top security brass is meeting in a formal set-up for the first time since the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Union home minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the conference and is likely to direct the security brass to completely dismantle the terror networks in Jammu and Kashmir and other regions. 'Pakistan-backed terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir will be a key issue which will be taken sharing and quick verification of all intelligence inputs in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack are likely to be discussed,' said an officer, requesting anonymity. Over 700 officers, including chiefs of intelligence agencies, Research and Analysis Wing, IB, National Technical Research Organisation, investigation agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation, and police chiefs of states and Union territories will attend the event. Officials cited above said that other internal and external security challenges will also be discussed. The implementation status of three new criminal laws will also come up, another officer said.
