Andrew Garfield in Talks to Replace Matthew McConaughey in Revolt Movie "The Rage"
In one of the bigger deals being thrashed out during the Cannes market, Focus Features is working on a domestic pact in the $11M range for Paul Greengrass' peasant revolt movie "The Rage", with Two-time Oscar nominee Andrew Garfield is in active negotiations to replace Matthew McConaughey as the lead.
The film is set during the Peasants' Revolt, a major uprising that took part across large parts of England in 1381 in response to socio-economic and political tensions and high taxation.
Should a deal get done, Garfield would play a farmer who becomes the leader of the revolt. It has been speculated that the character could be based on the legendary Wat Tyler, who led the uprising before being killed by forces loyal to King Richard, though this is unconfirmed.
Garfield's English background (the dual UK-U.S. national was raised in the UK) makes him a good fit for the project. Between "Spider-Man," "Hacksaw Ridge," "The Social Network," and "tick tick…BOOM!", he has long proven able to mix it between action and prestige roles that connect with audiences and garner significant box office.
Garfield is coming off romantic drama "We Live in Time", which took close to $60M worldwide, and next will be seen opposite Julia Roberts in Luca Guadagnino's "After the Hunt".
Oscar nominee Greengrass, well known for the "Bourne" franchise and such movies as "Captain Phillips" and "United 93", is scripting the project.
Jason Blum is producing through Blumhouse Productions, with Greg Goodman, Joanna Kaye and Greengrass. CAA Media Finance is repping domestic. FilmNation is selling international. Focus has been into the project for a while and began talks at EFM.
Focus is coming off a busy and lucrative awards season thanks to "Conclave" and "Nosferatu". It's at the Cannes Film Festival with Wes Anderson's "Phoenician Scheme" and "The History of Sound", and there are high hopes later this year for movies such as "Hamnet", "Bugonia", and the next "Downton Abbey" installment.

Egyptian National Theatre Festival kicks off its 18th edition - Stage & Street - Arts & Culture
The 18th edition of the Egyptian National Theatre Festival launched on Sunday, 20 July, with an inaugural ceremony at the Cairo Opera House's main hall. Related 18th Egyptian National Theatre Festival features 35 plays in the main competition Running until 6 August, this year's edition is held under the slogan The Festival Across All Egyptl. The ceremony featured the play Open the Curtains of Our Theatres, hosted by actor Amr Abdel-Aziz. In his opening remarks, Minister of Culture Ahmed Fouad Hano paid tribute to generations of theatre artists: 'On this exceptional evening, we stand in appreciation and reverence for all those who dedicated their lives to theatre art… Our honouring of them today is an acknowledgment of their merit and a tribute to an unforgettable journey.' Ahead of the official opening, the festival toured four governorates representing Egypt's regional diversity, where theatrical performances were staged and local artists honoured. This year's edition pays tribute to ten leading figures in Egyptian theatre, including actors Ashraf Abdel-Baki, Mohie Ismail, Samira Abdel-Aziz, Mimi Gamal, Ahmed Nabil, Selim Kitchener, and Jalal Al-Ashry, as well as directors Abeer Ali, Ahmed Abdel Jalil, and Sobhi Al-Sayed. A special posthumous honour was given to the late actress Samiha Ayoub, who passed away in June. The official competition features 35 theatrical productions different bodies operating under the Ministry of Culture as well as independent troupes. This edition features a greater number of specialized creative workshops. It will also include discussions about the theatre world, the impact of artificial intelligence on performances and scripts, as well as the influence of wars and conflicts shaking the region on theatre. Launched in 2006, the festival serves as a platform for honouring theatre-makers, documenting significant productions, and fostering dialogue around the future of Egyptian theatre. Egypt releases trilingual children's book in solidarity with Gaza - Society
As part of its cultural and humanitarian mission, Egypt's Ministry of Culture has released a new children's book titled Heroes in the Water Line in Arabic, English, and French, as a gesture of solidarity with the children of Gaza. Published by the National Center for Translation under the ministry's Translation from Arabic initiative, the book is described as a message of love and resilience from Egypt's children to their peers in Palestine. Written by Amani Suleiman Dawoud and illustrated by Rana Hatamleh, the story follows three friends—Youssef, Mostafa, and Ibrahim—growing up under bombardment in Gaza. Despite the violence surrounding them, they navigate life with the weapon of resilience, holding fast to hope for a better future. The story was translated into English by Lamiaa Tawfik and into French by Bouchayer Allam. According to the ministry, the initiative seeks to amplify the voices of Gaza's children, promote cross-cultural empathy, and affirm the role of literature in fostering shared human values across linguistic and national borders. Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson Reunite for Film Trilogy "Happy Hours"
Yara Sameh Katie Holmes is set to write, direct and star in "Happy Hours," a new feature film trilogy where she'll reunited with her Dawson's Creek co-star Joshua Jackson. Others in the cast include Mary-Louise Parker, Constance Wu, Joe Tippett, John McGinty, Donald Webber Jr., Nathan Darrow, Johnna Dias-Watson and Jack Martin. Production on the first film kicks off in New York City this summer, with the second and third installments scheduled to follow closely after. "Happy Hours" is described as a story about two people (Jackson and Holmes) navigating their relationship within the challenges of careers and family responsibilities and the pursuit of love, despite life's inevitable obstacles. The pic is a character-driven dramedy that explores the emotional journey of young loves who reconnect as adults, with the connective thread of shared joys, loss, and hope. The movie will be produced by Maven Screen Media and Bond Street Station, in association with Crown Productions and STX Films. Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler are producing for Maven Screen Media, alongside Peter Coleman and Paula P. Manzanedo for Bond Street Station. Annie Herndon will oversee for STX Films, with Jenny Halper, Sophia Pedlow and Jackie Donohoe overseeing for Maven. Known for her work in features ranging from Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins" to such acclaimed art house pictures as Ang Lee's "The Ice Storm" and Peter Hedges' "Pieces of April," Holmes has previously gotten behind the camera on indies including "Rare Objects," "Alone Together," and "All We Had," where she also starred. Both she and Jackson were part of The WB's beloved teen drama "Dawson's Creek" for all six seasons. Most recently seen guest starring alongside Natasha Lyonne in "Poker Face" Season 2.
