In a major push to make Maharashtra a more business-friendly state, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that all industrial approvals will now be available online through the state's unified Maitri Portal. The move is aimed at eliminating red tape, improving ease of doing business, and accelerating Maharashtra's journey toward becoming a $1 trillion economy.
Speaking at a high-level meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai, Fadnavis emphasised that industries must get quick access to essential infrastructure and approvals such as water supply, electricity, road connectivity, environmental and forest clearances, labour law compliance, and land allotments. To make this possible, all departments have been directed to integrate their services with the Maitri Portal and make the approval process completely digital and time-bound.
The chief minister also asked departments to enable anonymous complaint registration on the portal. 'If any entrepreneur is facing challenges or hurdles from a department, they should have a platform to report it without fear," he said.
The chief minister also directed the water resources department to ensure water supply to industrial zones as per demand and sought priority building of power substations in areas like Majalgaon, Dighi, Butibori, Chamorshi (Gadchiroli), Jaipur (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), and PM Mitra (Amravati). To address transmission and maintenance issues for industrial electricity supply, he suggested setting up a separate mechanism.
Fadnavis stressed that all environmental approvals should be made online via Maitri, and asked the PWD to expedite work on connecting the Shendra-Bidkin industrial node to the Samruddhi Mahamarg. Given the growing interest in Butibori for new investments, he also ordered immediate improvement in road connectivity in the region.
The CM made it clear that industries must get 'Consent to Establish' and 'Consent to Operate' within defined timelines. He also asked to do away with unnecessary licenses and surprise inspections. A revised, unified policy for land allotment and labour procedures is also in the pipeline.
Fadnavis further proposed that areas with established MIDC clusters should be declared 'industrial townships", which would help resolve double-taxation issues. He also directed that eligibility certificates be issued online for ease of access.

Wrapping up the session, the CM reviewed the ongoing and proposed land acquisition processes for various industrial projects and instructed departments to speed up clearances to support Maharashtra's rapid industrial growth.
The comprehensive push towards digitisation, transparency, and ease of doing business signals that Maharashtra is not just open for business—but ready to lead the way. The meeting was attended by key ministers, including revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, environment minister Pankaja Munde, PWD minister Shivrendra Bhosale, and top bureaucrats from departments such as industries, environment, water resources, energy, forest, labour, and MIDC. Tata Steel to continue cost reduction drive amid transition in Europe: CFO Koushik Chatterjee
Tata Steel will continue its cost takeout programme through the remainder of the ongoing financial year to support profitability, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director Koushik Chatterjee said on Thursday. As per PTI , the announcement follows a more than two-fold increase in the company's consolidated net profit for the June quarter to ₹2,007.36 crore, despite global macroeconomic uncertainty. The increase was attributed to higher net steel realisations and the impact of planned cost reduction measures. Ongoing strategy amid market conditions 'The strong improvement in our Q1 performance on QoQ as well as YoY basis was driven by an increase in our net steel realisations and the planned cost takeouts,' said CEO and Managing Director T V Narendran . Chatterjee said margins improved sequentially by around 200 basis points in Q1, and the company will continue its efforts to control costs in the coming quarters. 'The cost takeout will continue... So hopefully we should be in good space unless there is some big issues, not in India, but European tariff and trade issues play differently,' he said. The company has been targeting ₹11,500 crore (approximately $1.3 billion) in cost takeouts across India and Europe, focusing on controllable costs. The move comes at a time when Tata Steel is expanding its Indian operations and is undergoing a transition in Europe, including restructuring at its UK operations. Volume outlook, tariff impact Narendran said Tata Steel expects higher volumes in India in Q2, although realisations are likely to be ₹2,000 per tonne lower compared to Q1. In the Netherlands and the UK, revenue per tonne is expected to remain stable or increase slightly, with no anticipated drop in volumes. Consolidated revenues are expected to improve in Q2, though the company said it is too early to offer guidance for Q3 and Q4. On the recent US tariff announcements, Narendran said the company will not be materially impacted as it does not export from India to the US. 'Indirectly, also maybe some of the company's customers to whom it sells steel to export to the US, but it's not a big material number. So there is no material impact on tariffs,' he said. Tata Steel has been navigating a prolonged period of industry headwinds, particularly in Europe, where the company is restructuring its operations in response to regulatory, cost, and energy-related challenges.

Goa assembly clears bill to regularise pre-2014 unauthorised houses on govt land
Panaji, Aug 1 (PTI) The Goa assembly has passed the Goa Land Revenue Code (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which will regularise unauthorised houses built on government land before February 28, 2014. The bill, moved by Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate on Thursday, seeks to add a new section — 38A — in the Goa Land Revenue Code, 1968, empowering the deputy collector to regularise such encroachments and confer Class I occupancy to eligible applicants. The legislation was passed in the House amidst debate from the opposition, who raised concerns that it would benefit non-Goans. According to the bill, the regularisation of a structure is subject to payment of an occupancy price, which will be notified separately by the government. 'It applies only to landless Goan residents who have lived in the state for at least 15 years before the cut-off date and who do not own any other land, house, flat, or ancestral share in property," Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told the House. The bill, however, excludes land falling within protected forests, wildlife sanctuaries, coastal regulation zones, eco-sensitive zones, Khazan lands (low-lying coastal wetland), road setbacks, and natural water channels. Sawant clarified that such structures will not be covered under the purview of this bill. The bill states that the maximum area eligible for regularisation is capped at 400 sq metres, which includes the plinth area and a two-meter buffer around houses, if available. Any encroached area beyond the prescribed limit must be surrendered to the government as a precondition for regularisation. The bill mandates that applicants file for regularisation within six months of notification of the Act, and the deputy collector will have another six months to dispose of such applications. The legislation also imposes a 20-year restriction on the sale or transfer of the regularised property, except by gift to a family member. 'Any false declaration by applicants may lead to cancellation of the regularisation, penal action including imprisonment up to two years, and a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh," the legislation states. The bill aims to provide tenure security to long-time occupants while also curbing large-scale encroachments and augmenting state revenue, as per the Statement of Objects and Reasons. There are no financial liabilities to the state under the bill, although it is expected to generate revenue through the occupancy price.
