UMNO to review motion on Hishammuddin's suspension revocation
UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said it was the party leadership's tradition and practice to examine any motion submitted by UMNO divisions during their respective delegates' meetings.
'This is a motion brought by one of the 191 UMNO divisions nationwide.
'Like other divisions, the motion will be submitted to the UMNO headquarters to be studied and considered before any decision is made,' he told reporters after officiating the Batu Pahat UMNO Division Delegates' Meeting at Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim here today.
Khaled, who is also Defence Minister, said UMNO had yet to receive an appeal from the former senior national leader, but stressed that the motion would still be reviewed and considered.
'For now, there is only a motion, and we will consider it. Whether the individual concerned (Hishammuddin) has submitted an appeal or not, I don't wish to comment further,' he said.
Yesterday, the Sembrong UMNO Division passed a motion for the immediate and unconditional revocation of Hishammuddin's suspension.
Sembrong UMNO Division chief Datuk Abdul Ghani Abdul Rashid said this was the second year in a row the motion had been proposed by the division, reflecting the majority of delegates' wishes to see Hishammuddin return to active party involvement.
For the record, Hishammuddin was suspended from UMNO membership for six years, effective January 27, 2023.
Meanwhile, UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party was open to receiving and discussing the motion at the next UMNO Supreme Council meeting.
'UMNO is an open party, and we've received many appeals from party leaders that have been accepted by UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. In this matter, I will receive and consider any motions submitted,' he told reporters after officiating the Rompin UMNO Delegates' Meeting in Muadzam Shah, Pahang today.
Asked about several MCA divisions that had submitted motions calling for the dissolution of Barisan Nasional (BN) during the party's annual general meeting, Asyraf urged component parties to remain patient and to make decisions that were more realistic and practical.
'All the component parties have incumbent seats, and we must ensure that we retain the 30 seats we already hold... If we aim to win more, we must negotiate with the top leadership to discuss this. UMNO is very open to discussions on the matter,' he added.
Yesterday, the media reported that MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the party's top leadership would take into account grassroots feedback before deciding on the party's future direction.
Commenting on the same issue in KUALA KANGSAR, UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the matter must be brought to the UMNO Supreme Council (MKT) meeting for discussion with other council members before any decision is made.
'Let the proposal go to the Supreme Council meeting, I will give my comment then,' he said when met at the Dialog@KPK programme with the Minister of Plantation and Commodities at the Indian Association Hall here today.

FORMER UMNO supreme council member Isham Jalil is on the look-out for lawyers who would assist him to draft letters of demand (LOD) for Madani cybertroopers who accused him of acting as an adviser to incarcerated former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak in his 2017 negotiation with Donald Trump who was the then US president. Isham who was once a special officer to Najib claimed that the cybertroopers had slandered him given he was 'never directly involved in the Boeing acquisition negotiations nor was he part of Najib's delegation to the US'. 'I like it when PH (Pakatan Harapan) politicians and their 20-sen walanon gang (hardcore PMX supporters) do this kind of work. Because I have the opportunity to sue them and make millions,' he penned on his Facebook page. 'When I win the suit, I will buy a motorbike.' Setting the record straight, Isham clarified that Najib did not buy the 25 Boeing planes as claimed by detractors but in fact, he had 'signed a non-binding MOU (memorandum of understanding' instead. 'We didn't buy but leased 16 from the international leasing firm that bought the aircraft with terms depending on the current market conditions,' revealed the former UMNO information chief who was expelled from the party on Dec 7, 2023 for opposing the party's collaborations with DAP in elections. For the record, MAG had in 2016 placed an initial order for 25 Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft with 13 planes having been received since November 2023 while the remainder are to be delivered progressively until 2027. However, MAG had on March 20 this year finalised an additional order for 30 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft with deliveries expected to take place from 2025 to 2035, according to Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. Although only 30 planes were originally planned, critics believe that the recent order for another 30 appear to be a last-minute add-on which is likely to please Washington in order to unlock tariff relief from 25% to 19% – a dangerous precedent where strategic assets are used for political appeasement. 'The current total fleet of MAS is approximately 80 aircraft with many years left before the expiration date,' he justified. 'You want to buy twice as many aircraft and double the fleet size with hundreds of billions in debt even though your profit has dropped to only RM54 mil?' Added Isham' Our airline's record is not good and always loses. Moreover, the aviation industry is both instable and full of risks. 'And yet you still want to take on debts amounting to more than 10% of the country's total accumulated debt because you want to buy 80 more aircraft? PASIR GUDANG – Young voters are expected to play a key role in determining the outcome of the 16th General Election (GE16), as they make up about 40 per cent of the total electorate in the country. Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the figure highlighted the urgent need for more strategic and relevant approaches to engage this demographic. 'We need to engage with this group in the right way. They're not like before. Many are highly educated, some have PhD, master's degree, or bachelor's degree and their way of assessing candidates is very different. 'Young people in Kuala Lumpur are not the same as those in Kedah or Johor Bahru. We can't use a one-size-fits-all approach. Their thinking is dynamic and critical,' he said. In his speech, Johari also stressed that Umno was not a platform for chasing positions or wealth, but rather a movement of struggle that has played a major role since before independence. 'Many Umno fighters back then didn't even hold positions after independence, but their spirit of struggle lived on and gave rise to many great thinkers,' he said. Commenting further, he reminded that Barisan Nasional (BN) must not be overconfident going into the next general election. 'BN cannot be complacent or assume we will win easily.
