EastEnders legend surprises fans with appearance in another TV drama
EastEnders fans have been left stunned after iconic character Elaine Peacock was spotted appearing in rival ITV drama.
Fans were left doing a double take after spotting a Walford favourite in an unexpected TV appearance. Harriet Thorpe, 68 best known as feisty landlady Elaine Peacock, surprised viewers when she popped up in a repeat episode of Midsomer Murders.
The 2021 cameo didn't go unnoticed, with one eagle-eyed fan writing on Reddit: "Elaine in Midsomer Murders,' alongside a snap of the actress rocking a floral kaftan and colourful necklace, in a similar flamboyant style as the Queen Vic's landlady Elaine. Another joked: 'It seems she has a consistent costume department.'
While Thorpe only joined EastEnders in 2023, she's no stranger to screens, having starred in Absolutely Fabulous, Calendar Girls, The Brittas Empire and twice in Midsomer Murders. She first appeared in 2006 episode titled Dance with the Dead before returning for 2021's The Stitcher Society.
And Harriet's not the only EastEnders favourite have overlapped from Albert Square for another televised drama.
Lacey Turner, aka Stacey Slater, also made a chilling appearance in Bedlam, while Shaun Dooley – who popped up in EastEnders back in the day as Tom Stuart – has since been spotted in everything from Silent Witness to Broadchurch.
Even Jake Wood, best known as scheming Max Branning, has dabbled in dark dramas, once appearing in an episode of The Bill before his soap days took off. While the actor who plays Max's brother Jack Branning, Scott Maslen, had a long stint in The Bill before heading over to Walford.
But, back in the square Elaine is centre of the programme after breaking off with her ex, George last week after she admitted to sleeping with another man after spotting George with his ex-wife Cindy Beale – which sent her into a downward spiral.
In the wake of her divorce, which is quickly turning bitter, Elaine collapsed twice on the show which later followed to her spending time in the hospital when she found out she had suffered a heart attack – which left her agreeing to sell the pub with Linda. Elaine's passionate marriage to George only lasted a year.
Just last year, Elaine and George had made headlines when exclusive snaps of the couple's nuptials were released. The lavish wedding scene saw a large chunk of the EastEnders cast descend on a church in Bushey, near the studios, to film what was dubbed the soap wedding of the year.
Elaine dazzled in a gold gown while George wore a sand-coloured suit to match his best man Johnny Carter. Anna and Gina Knight, played by Francesca Henry and Molly Rainford, were spotted in dark green bridesmaid dresses and their on-screen mum Cindy Beale, aka Michelle Collins, also turned up in full funeral black alongside Ian Beale legend Adam Woodyatt.
A source at the time said: 'The BBC have clearly pushed the boat out for the wedding. These days it's unheard of for even the big soap weddings to have large amounts of the cast filming on location but bosses have made it work.'

Currently presenting the BBC's flagship morning programme, Morning Live, Cumbria's Helen has been a mainstay on our screens for some time. The 41-year-old mum of three regularly updates viewers and readers on how she stays happy and how she juggles home and professional life. Ahead of entering her 42nd year, Helen reflected on her greatest personal learning. "You've just got to sit in the moment that you're in," she told Hello! We've had lots of new arrivals on the farm over the last few days - one of them being this adorable American Miniature Horse, pictured with mum Pearl! Watch as Farmer Rob checked in on them yesterday: "That's the good thing about being a countryside person and being a sports person. It's the ultimate lesson in that nothing stays the same. "When you're in a good time, just really lean into it and make the most of it – if your relationship is good or your kids are good, just rinse every second of it but equally, the bad times don't last either. Tough times don't stay tough forever. "The only thing that you can be sure of is that the sun is going to rise and the sun is going to set. Accepting that everything changes is really quite liberating." 'Stunning' Scots town Emma Raducanu 'fell in love with' for its beautiful sights
The tennis star says she fell in love with the landscape of the Perthshire town during a visit in 2024. Emma Raducanu has been making headlines again at Wimbledon, powering into the third round after an impressive straight-sets victory over former champion Marketa Vondrousova on Wednesday night. But while her on-court form is grabbing attention, it's her off-court love for Scotland that's also winning hearts, Scottish Daily Express reports. The 21-year-old tennis star recently reflected on her 2024 trip to Perthshire, where she attended the glittering Dior Cruise show at Drummond Castle in Crieff, and fell head over heels for the region's peaceful charm and breathtaking beauty. Speaking to the BBC, Raducanu shared her admiration for the Scottish landscape. 'I really fell in love with it up there,' she said. 'I was at the Gleneagles, which was stunning, the golf course. I did a run before the show. It was just stunning to take in all the sights. For me, my retreat is greenery. I think Scotland has just vast, amazing, beautiful greenery. It was beautiful.' She added: 'I think Drummond Castle, where the show was at, is stunning. The lawns were so perfectly manicured, it was beautiful.' Her visit coincided with one of the most star-studded events ever held in the Scottish countryside. Dior's showcase drew in major names from around the world, including Hollywood heavyweights Jennifer Lawrence and Anya Taylor-Joy. But it was Crieff's natural splendour and quiet sophistication that stole the show for Raducanu. Crieff, a picturesque market town nestled in the heart of Perthshire, has become a thriving tourism hub in recent years. Known for its whisky heritage and literary history, it's home to Scotland's oldest lending library, the town continues to enchant visitors with its unique mix of history and hospitality. The centrepiece of Raducanu's visit, Drummond Castle, is among the most celebrated sights in the region. While the castle itself is not open to the public, the Italian-style gardens are widely regarded as some of the finest in Europe. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! As VisitScotland describes: 'A mile of beech-lined avenue leads to a formidable ridge-top tower house. Enter through the woven iron portcullis and suddenly revealed is a magnificent Italianate parterre. "First laid out in the early 17th century and redesigned and terraced in the 19th century, the gardens you see today were replanted in the 1950s, preserving features such as the ancient yew hedges and the copper beech trees planted by Queen Victoria, to commemorate her visit in 1842. The gardens featured in the United Artists film Rob Roy.' Just a short drive away lies Gleneagles, one of the most prestigious golf resorts in the world, and another highlight of Raducanu's trip. Crieff also boasts luxury stays like the iconic Crieff Hydro, which has long welcomed famous guests, as well as attractions like the Caithness Glass Visitor Centre and The Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret Distillery. With its storybook setting, rich history and star-studded events, it's little wonder Raducanu left Perthshire smitten. And as she returns to the court on Friday to face world number one Aryna Sabalenka.
