Longest spell of clean air in Delhi this year with satisfactory AQI for 11th day in a row

Despite no significant rain being recorded in many parts of the Capital over the past few days, the air quality in Delhi remained 'satisfactory' for the eleventh consecutive day. This is the longest spell of clean city air this year so far. On Sunday, the average AQI for the day was 76. The months of July and August record the cleanest air during the year, primarily because of the rain and the prevailing wind direction is easterly. According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'. The AQI has remained below 100 since June 25, when it was 134, in the moderate range. The arrival of the monsoon in Delhi was delayed this year. The maximum temperature, meanwhile, was 35 degrees Celsius on Sunday, 0.5 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was 28.8 degrees Celsius. Moderate rain was reported in several parts of the city post midnight. Ayanagar recorded the highest rainfall at 11.7 mm in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Sunday. Palam received 20.9 mm of rain, Lodhi Road 1.5 mm, and Safdarjung 0.8 mm. The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Monday, forecasting light to moderate rain and thunderstorms. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 33 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.

New Delhi: The drenching rain that Delhi has waited for stayed away another day, while humidity caused the "feel-like" temperature to soar to 46.8 degrees Celsius at 4pm. The Met office had issued a yellow alert for moderate rain on Sunday. However, no such weather activity was recorded across the city until late in the evening. A similar yellow alert was issued for Monday too, and the IMD expects more rain as the monsoon trough is now over Delhi. Between 8:30am and 5:30pm, the city's base station at Safdarjung recorded 0.8mm rainfall. Mungeshpur got 0.5mm, Rajghat 0.1mm, Palam only a trace of rainfall, and Lodhi Road 1.5mm. The IMD said that the monsoon trough was directly over Delhi on Sunday and was passing over Suratgarh, Sirsa, Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi, Daltonganj, Bankura, Digha, and the Bay of Bengal. Weatherman Navdeep Dahiya said on X: "We will see active monsoon conditions in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, UP, MP, north Rajasthan, and Chandigarh this coming week." Widespread overnight and early morning showers, including heavy spells, were likely to impact several cities, including Delhi. "Afternoon and evening showers will be scattered (hit or miss)..." the post said, adding that in some places across northwest India, 50mm to 150mm of rainfall is likely in a single spell too. The IMD declared the onset of the southwest monsoon on June 29 — two days after its normal date. So far this month, only 5.9mm has been logged. Normally, Delhi sees 209.7mm in July. Last year, 203.7mm was recorded in July. The city's base station at Safdarjung recorded 35 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. Heavy rain batters western Odisha with more in store

1 2 3 Bhubaneswar: Two persons were killed in a wall collapse in Nuapada district on Sunday as heavy rainfall across western Odisha in the past 24 hours wreaked havoc. A fresh low-pressure area also formed over Bay of Bengal on Sunday, which is likely to trigger extremely heavy rain in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh and Sambalpur districts in the next 24 hours, the IMD said. Due to the downpour, several low-lying areas were inundated, disrupting road connectivity and normal life. Waterlogging has been reported from multiple blocks, prompting the Jharsuguda administration to evacuate residents from affected areas and shift them to safer locations. Eight places recorded extremely heavy rainfall above 200mm, with four places receiving very heavy rainfall between 100 and 200mm. Deogaon in Jharsuguda recorded the maximum of 306mm rainfall, followed by Bamra in Sambalpur with 285.4mm and Likara in Jharsuguda with 270.4mm. Other places like Kirmira, Kolabira and Kuchinda recorded rainfall in excess of 220mm. Under Jharsuguda Municipality limits, several areas experienced severe waterlogging. Residents near the Old Bus Stand staged a road blockade for a few hours, demanding the construction of a proper drainage system, as rainwater entered their homes. After assurance from the authorities, they lifted the blockade. "We submitted written complaints several times regarding the waterlogging but no action has been taken yet. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo On Saturday night, we had to sleep in an autorickshaw, leaving our flooded home," said Soni Kaur, an agitator. Jharsuguda district collector Aboli Sunil Naravane said, "Water entered houses in low-lying areas near the backwaters of the IB river under Brajarajnagar Municipality area. People from the affected areas have been evacuated and shifted to safer locations, where they are being provided with food and medical assistance. Some houses have been partially damaged. Revenue inspectors (RIs) are on the field and have already started distributing polythene sheets," the collector added. The special relief commissioner (SRC) has issued directives to all district collectors to keep their administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality. "The southwest monsoon, which is active in the state, is likely to gain more steam with the formation of the low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood and likely to bring widespread rainfall and potentially intense weather activity along its path. One or two places in the four districts may get extremely heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours," said Sanjeev Dwivedi, weather scientist at IMD's regional centre here. Till Sunday, the state has received 35% excess rainfall from June 1. The state received cumulative rainfall of 359.8mm against the normal of 265.8mm. Two districts have received deficient rainfall, IMD sources said.
