'Unable To Understand...': Jitan Ram Manjhi On Chirag Paswan Questioning Bihar's Law And Order
Jitan Ram Manjhi, former Bihar chief minister and Union Minister, called his ally Chirag Paswan a 'good leader" of the NDA but said he is unable to understand the situation in the state.
Manjhi's remarks come after Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Paswan's repeated attacks on CM Nitish Kumar over the law and order situation in the wake of a series of murders in the state.
'Sometimes, even trustworthy people are unable to understand the situation and make statements on it. Chirag Paswan is a good leader of the NDA… The person whose name you are taking has some shortcomings, and before making any statement, it is important to understand the entire situation by looking at the past, present and future… He has some shortcomings, due to which fingers are being raised at the NDA," he said.

Paswan is a part of the NDA government at the Centre, and his LJP is a junior partner in the Nitish Kumar government. He has expressed his wish to contest the upcoming assembly election in the state.
Gandhi also asserted that in the upcoming assembly polls, the vote will not be just to change the government, but to save the state.
The leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha shared on X screenshots of media reports pointing to 31 murders in 11 days and on the 'contract killing industry" in the state.
In his post in Hindi on X, Gandhi said, 'Bihar has become the 'crime capital of India' — fear in every alley, unease in every home! Unemployed youth are being turned into killers by 'GuNDA raj'." 'The CM is busy saving his seat, while BJP ministers are raking in commissions. I'm repeating again – this time, the vote is not just to change the government, but to save Bihar," he said.

Maharashtra plans to reduce age of juvenile offenders in drug cases to 16: CM Devendra Fadnavis
The Maharashtra government is mulling lowering the legal age for defining 'juvenile' in drug-related cases to 16, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Monday and noted minors are being increasingly used for narcotics peddling to exploit legal loopholes. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said minors are being increasingly used for drug peddling to exploit legal loopholes.(File/ANI) The state government will amend relevant laws to plug legal loopholes and prevent minors from getting into drug peddling, Fadnavis, who holds the home portfolio, told the assembly. Replying to debate on a calling attention notice, Fadnavis noted the government has already decided to invoke the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against repeat drug traffickers. Fadnavis said minors are being increasingly used for drug peddling to exploit legal loopholes. "The age bar for juveniles (in drug trafficking cases) will be reduced to 16 years (from 18 now) and habitual offenders will be booked under the MCOCA," he told the House. The state legislature has passed a bill for bringing drug peddlers and narcotics crimes under the purview of the MCOCA. The Chief Minister raised concern over the involvement of foreign nationals, particularly Nigerian citizens, in the drug trade. "Although there is a provision (in law) to deport such individuals, many deliberately commit minor offences to avoid deportation. The Centre has been asked to pardon such minor offences so that deportation (of foreign nationals) can take place," he said. In a reply to another calling attention notice, Fadnavis, who heads the energy department, announced the government has approved a scheme to provide free electricity to households consuming up to 100 units through rooftop solar panel installations. "Subsidy will be given to set up rooftop solar panels, which will ensure zero electricity bills for small domestic consumers," he said. Meanwhile, Forest Minister Ganesh Naik informed the lower house that construction activities leading to destruction of mangroves will be stopped and permissions given to developers/contractors for such projects will be reviewed. He was responding to a calling attention notice submitted by MLA Bhaskar Jadhav (Shiv Sena-UBT) with supplementary questions raised by another legislator Sanjay Kelkar (BJP). Referring to alleged mangrove destruction at Rustomjee Urbania, an upscale residential project in adjoining Thane city, Naik said a report in this regard was sought from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) in 2023, but no action was taken for two years. "A high-level inquiry will be conducted within three months, and strict action will be taken against erring officials and developers. Hefty penalties will also be imposed on violators," he assured the assembly.

State has failed to deal with drugs, corruption & unaccounted cash: Supriya
Pune: Baramati MP Supriya Sule on Monday said she would draw attention of the Centre towards drugs menace, corruption and unaccounted cash in Maharashtra because state govt was not serious about these. "These issues must be highlighted at the Union govt-level because the state has failed to resolve them. I will do it in Parliament if the state does not give justice in such matters," Sule, the NCP (SP) working president, told reporters after visiting the Sinhagad Road area, facing major traffic congestions of late. According to Sule, the cash allegedly found in the residence of a state minister would have disheartened Prime Minister Narendra Modi and finance Minister Nirmala Sitaram — the proponents of cashless economy and digital payment systems. She said it was worrisome for the nation if cash was found at the state-level when the Union govt was trying to focus on digitisation. If a bagful of cash is found on such a large scale, an inquiry should be carried out about what happened to the demonetisation," she said. Sule said if the state decided to fight against drugs, her party would join it. The govt was not doing enough to bring down the menace of drug addiction despite repeated letters to the state to deal with this problem, she said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The Baramati MP termed the action of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against her nephew, MLA Rohit Pawar, "vendetta politics". The ED named Rohit in the chargesheet related to the purchase of Kannad cooperative sugar factory in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar by Baramati Agro Limited, owned by Rohit and his family members. Sule said Rohit's name was not there in the first list of accused. Most of those in the first list joined BJP, she said. "Names of the original accused have been removed from the list and a new list has been prepared, which features Rohit. He (Rohit) is in the opposition party and raising his voice against the corruption of the govt," she said. According to Sule, the act of some Congress leaders from Pune joining BJP shows that the latter has no option but to induct them because they are talented. "BJP had made an announcement to make 'Congress Mukt Bharat' (India Congress-free). But now, most of the Congress leaders are joining BJP," she said. Sule also condemned the manhandling and thrashing of Praveen Gaikwad of Sambhaji Brigade. "Such attacks are a shame for the cultured state like Maharashtra. It is shocking that action has not been taken against the attackers despite having a criminal background," she said. The Baramati MP also said she was not aware of the resignation of Jayant Patil, the state unit chief of NCP (SP).
