Pedestrian who fell into river after being hit by a car during accident feared drowned

KUALA LUMPUR - A pedestrian is believed to have drowned after falling into a river when he was hit by a car that skidded in an accident on Jalan Ipoh heading towards the Kepong Roundabout, near here, this morning.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the accident, which occurred around 11.45am, involved two cars and a pedestrian.
"Initial investigations found that a Nissan Sylphy, driven by a 39-year-old Bangladeshi man from the direction of PPR Batu Muda, lost control and collided with the front right side of a Toyota Camry, driven by a 43-year-old Vietnamese woman from the direction of Batu Kentomen, near here.
"The Nissan Sylphy then struck a pedestrian before plunging under the bridge and getting caught between concrete structures and iron pipes," he said in a statement today.
He added that the Nissan Sylphy driver sustained injuries and was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for further treatment, while the pedestrian victim, whose identity is still unknown, is suspected to have fallen into the river and has yet to be found.
He stated that a search and rescue operation is currently underway by the Fire and Rescue Department from Sentul, Jinjang, and Hang Tuah stations, along with the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), Motorised Patrol Unit (URB), and JSPT Kuala Lumpur.
Mohd Zamzuri said further investigations revealed that the car driven by the foreign man was not his, and police are tracking down the actual owner of the vehicle for further action.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and the Bangladeshi man will be detained for further investigation. - BERNAMA

In a related development, Hussein advised Malaysians to be more cautious and not to fall easily for online job offers promising high salaries, especially those involving the delivery of packages overseas without knowledge of their contents. He also reminded the public to remain vigilant against the modus operandi of international drug syndicates that target Malaysians as drug mules. Earlier today, The Phnom Penh Post reported that the six men were arrested by Cambodia's Anti-Drug Department in collaboration with customs and airport authorities, with the drugs found in four suitcases. The suspects were believed to be planning to travel to London via Hong Kong.

IGP: PDRM Detects Cases Suspected To Be Orchestrated By Foreign Intelligence Agencies
CRIME & COURTS KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has identified external threats, believed to be orchestrated by foreign intelligence agencies, which could potentially compromise national security. Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, said that among them were two incidents, suspected to be orchestrated by foreign intelligence agencies, namely the kidnapping of a Palestinian national and the possession of six firearms by an Israeli national. 'PDRM is always prepared to prevent and address various external threats which could impact national security, including agendas by foreign intelligence agencies which may attempt to interfere with or disrupt the country's stability and sovereignty. 'Various measures have been implemented to monitor the entry of foreigners at all the country's entry points, in close cooperation with the Immigration Department, the Border Control and Protection Agency, and Interpol,' he said, in a statement, today. Mohd Khalid said that the police are also paying close attention to the security of foreigners residing in Malaysia for extended periods, including permanent residents and those in the country for business purposes, such as foreign consultants. On the safety of the Palestinian community in Malaysia, Mohd Khalid urged them to remain vigilant, and avoid attracting public attention. 'To ensure the safety of Palestinians residing in Malaysia, they are advised to maintain a low profile to avoid becoming targets, and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the police,' he said. Mohd Khalid said that PDRM has also established strategic collaborations with other security agencies, through continuous information and intelligence exchanges at both national and international levels. Cops bust migrant smuggling syndicate, nab 12 in raid

(PDRM pic) PETALING JAYA : Police uncovered a human smuggling syndicate using a homestay as a transit location after raiding an apartment unit in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, and detaining 12 foreign nationals. Bukit Aman D3 chief Soffian Santong said the raid at 9pm yesterday was based on intelligence and information received. 'Three men and one woman detained, aged between 22 and 31, are believed to be members of the Geng Roni syndicate, suspected of acting as agents, land-based transporters and caretakers at the transit house. 'The eight remaining detainees, comprising four Indonesian nationals and four Bangladeshi nationals, aged between 27 and 41, were migrants attempting to leave the country for Indonesia using unauthorised routes,' Bernama reported Soffian as saying today. He said the syndicate had been actively operating for the past three months, advertising their services on social media and charging between RM1,000 and RM1,700 per migrant for their services.
