‘Love Island USA' Fans Asked For This Coupling Twist — And They Actually Got It

This post contains spoilers for Episode 21 of 'Love Island USA' Season 7.
This season of 'Love Island USA' may not have the sweeping romances viewers were hoping for, but it's still delivering top-tier reality TV.
Season 7 hit its halfway mark this week with the Casa Amor kickoff — and it wasted no time shaking things up. As a flood of new bombshells arrived, the show pulled off a franchise-first twist that undid every recent coupling and left all the islanders officially single.
In other words, everyone got a clean slate to explore brand-new connections — or in one pair's case, revisit an old one.
That's right, I'm talking about Nic and Olandria — or as their loyal supporters have dubbed them, 'Nicolandria.' Since early in the season, fans of the duo have been clamoring for them to couple up, despite both being mostly locked down with other islanders (Olandria with Taylor, Nic with Cierra). Flirtatious moments in challenges have hinted at a spark between the two. Still, they never had a real chance to explore a connection until after they were dumped in a jaw-dropping elimination on Tuesday.
Unlike past seasons, islanders were forced to pair up during Casa Amor instead of after returning to the villa. And as couplings shuffled around, Nic and Olandria found themselves on the outs. In typical fashion, the two were given 30 minutes to say their goodbyes. But then, 'Love Island USA' flipped the script.
After Tuesday's cliffhanger left viewers stunned to see Olandria return in a truck to scoop up Nic, we found out on Thursday that they sped off to a secret candlelit date, where they faced a big decision: stay single and go home, or couple up and head back to the villa.
Much to fans' delight, Nic and Olandria chose each other and made a sneaky return to the villa in the middle of the night. The twist shocked viewers, as well as the other islanders, but for longtime 'Nicolandria' supporters, it only confirmed what they suspected all along.

Naturally, the new coupling puts Olandria and Nic in a tricky spot with Taylor and Cierra, who happen to be two of their closest friends in the villa. And tensions are bound to rise during Friday's big recoupling, when the rest of the islanders return from Casa Amor and everything comes to light.
That said, some fans have accused 'Love Island USA' of leaning too heavily into fan service this season by catering to 'Nicolandria' fans and those who enjoy the manufactured chaos. However, the twist is consistent with how the show has given viewers more control than ever before.
Back in week three, fans were allowed to decide which bombshells and islanders should be coupled, for the first time in the franchise's history. The result broke up Jeremiah and Huda, Taylor and Olandria, and Hannah and Charlie, and also led to the latter's elimination. Later, fans influenced another elimination by voting for their favorite islanders, which may not have even happened if this season lived up to the show's title.
Given the lack of solid connections among the Season 7 cast, it's no wonder producers are allowing fans to puppeteer the drama more than usual. Unlike last season, which gave us several couples still going strong — Serena and Kordell, JaNa and Kenny, and Leah and Miguel — this batch hasn't delivered the same kind of genuine romance that we can root for.
So, in the spirit of making good TV (and keeping the 'Love Island USA' brand strong), I'm all for letting the fans steer the drama a bit. After all, it's our viewership that keeps the show going. Plus, the unpredictability of fan involvement makes the series that much more thrilling to watch.
Sure, these are real people genuinely looking for love on what's supposed to be a dreamy summer vacation. But at the end of the day, it's also a dating game show. Audiences have always crowned the winning couple, but to do that this season, we need at least one pair worth rooting for.
If that means fans have to stir the pot to help people find the right match, so be it. On this show, if love isn't in the air, drama is the next best thing.
Either way it goes, I'll still be tuned into Peacock at 6 p.m. PT sharp every day (except Wednesdays).

Sean "Diddy" Combs' lawyer calls prosecution of music mogul a "fake trial," says evidence "badly exaggerated"
Sean "Diddy" Combs was portrayed in his lawyer's closing argument on Friday as the victim of an overzealous prosecution that tried to turn the recreational use of drugs and a swinger lifestyle into a racketeering conspiracy that could put the music mogul behind bars for life. Attorney Marc Agnifilo mocked the government's case against Combs and belittled the agents who seized hundreds of bottles of Astroglide lubricant and baby oil at his properties as he began his four-hour presentation Friday in a New York courtroom. "Way to go, fellas," he said of the agents. He said prosecutors had "badly exaggerated" evidence of a swinger lifestyle and threesomes to combine it with recreational drug use and call it a racketeering conspiracy. "He did not do the things he's charged with. He didn't do racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking," the lawyer said. Agnifilo said of Combs: "He sits there innocent. Return him to his family who have been waiting for him." Agnifilo called Combs' prosecution a "fake trial" and ridiculed the notion that he engaged in racketeering. "Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?" Agnifilo asked. "Did any witness get on that witness stand and say yes, I was part of a racketeering enterprise — I engaged in racketeering?" No, Agnifilo argued, telling jurors that those accusations were a figment of the prosecution's imagination. The lawyer argued prosecutors had invaded Combs' most intimate personal affairs, telling jurors: "Where's the crime scene? It's your sex life." Agnifilo also argued there's another factor at play in the allegations that women have lobbed against Combs: the prospect of draining him of his wealth through lawsuits. "This isn't about crime. It's about money. This is about money," Agnifilo said. In the prosecution's rebuttal, Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey said Agnifilo had spent "a whole lot of energy" trying to distract from Combs' "inexcusable behavior." "Make no mistake," Comey told jurors, "this trial was about how in Sean Combs' world, 'no' was never an option." In his closing argument, Agnifilo reiterated that the defense "owns" the fact that Combs was violent but argued that behavior does not justify the grave charges against him. Combs and R&B singer Cassie Ventura Fine had a "loving, beautiful relationship," albeit a "complicated" one, Agnifilo said. "If racketeering conspiracy had an opposite, it would be their relationship," Agnifilo said. "They were deeply in love with each other." In her rebuttal, Comey said, "Being a domestic abuser is not a defense to sex trafficking." Jurors are expected to begin deliberating on Monday. Combs' family, including six of his children and his mother, were in the audience for the defense's closing, which took place a day after the prosecution made its closing arguments Thursday — after calling on 34 witnesses over the course of seven weeks. Combs' ex-girlfriend, Ventura Fine, and rapper Kid Cudi, were among those who testified. The trial of Combs, 55, began on May 12. Prosecutors allege he relied on employees, resources and influence of his business empire to create a criminal enterprise that engaged in — or attempted to engage in — "sex trafficking, forced labor, interstate transportation for the purposes of prostitution, coercion and enticement to engage in prostitution, narcotics offenses, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice." Combs has denied the allegations against him and pleaded not guilty to five counts. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison. Combs has been present at the trial but told U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian earlier this week that he decided not to testify. "I mean, it's my decision with my lawyers. ... My decision to make. I'm making it," he said. The defense rested on Tuesday after presenting its case for less than 30 minutes. It didn't call any witnesses. Combs' lawyers built their case for acquittal through lengthy cross-examinations of government witnesses. Some testified only in response to subpoenas and insisted they didn't want to be there. In federal prosecutors' closing arguments, Assistant U.S. Attorney Christy Slavik said to the jury that Combs used "power, violence and fear" to rule a criminal enterprise, which allegedly facilitated brutal sex crimes. Slavik said Combs "counted on silence and shame" to allow his abuse to continue. She also said he used a "small army" of employees to harm women and then cover it up. "He thought that his fame, wealth and power put him above the law," she said. contributed to this report.

‘Predator: Badlands' Joins Disney's San Diego Comic-Con Plans
The hunt will be on at San Diego Comic-Con, where Predator: Badlands will get the spotlight. Per the Hollywood Reporter, the sci-fi film will get a Hall H panel during the convention weekend. It'll be the second big Disney movie of the fall season to make an appearance at the famed Hall, joining October's Tron: Ares. Both films will fill in for a lack of Marvel at this year's convention, and it'll be the Predator franchise's first theatrical movie to hit SDCC since Shane Black's 2018 reboot. (Prey, which premiered at SDCC 2022, sadly never got a theatrical release.) Like with Tron, Predator: Badlands hasn't had much marketing since its initial trailer and poster. The Hall H panel will hopefully feature a new trailer for the film, which centers on Dak (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi), a young Yautja outcast teaming with the android Thia (Elle Fanning) to get back in his clan's good graces by hunting a worthy enemy. Prey director Dan Trachtenberg is back behind the camera for this one, and unlike Prey and this year's Killers of Killers, you'll be able to see Badlands on the big screen. San Diego Comic-Con runs from July 24-27, and Predator: Badlands hits theaters on November 7. While we wait for more info about it, might as well rewatch Prey or Killer of Killers over on Hulu.
