Runaway bull finds sanctuary for life
The two year old 'Dexter' bull was said to have been found rambling around 'in a confused state' in Digbeth, near Birmingham last week and its thought he may have fled a back street slaughterhouse in the area.
After being cornered in a carpark by police last week, the lucky animal was handed over to the Hillside Sanctuary in Frettenham, Norfolk, some 170 miles away from where he was found. Liam the Bull. Pic: Hillside Animal Sanctuary
Staff have named him 'Liam' believed to be in a nod to the new Norwich City boss Liam Manning.
The sanctuary owners said he was very stressed when he arrived there in the middle of the night, but immediately made friends with another bull named 'Piglet' and has since calmed down.
They owners of the sanctuary also said they liaised with police to try to find out where Liam came from and the possibility that he ran away from an abbattoir. His ear tag linked him to a farm in Leicestershire, but its thought he was an escapee who literally ran for his life. Liam the Bull with his new friend Piglet (left). Pic: Hillside Animal Sanctuary
Liam does have one other obstacle to overcome however, before he can join the herd out in the Norfolk fields to enjoy the summer weather and the fresh green grass.
The two year old Black Dexter Bull must have a little 'snip' operation, and the plan is to have him castrated next Monday, and after that, he can join his other rescued pals and enjoy the rest of his days in Hillside.
The Hillside rescue centre has many other animals in their care, with 750 rescued cattle, 2,500 rescued horses, ponies and donkeys, 750 sheep and goats, 300 pigs and lots of other animals, including many rescued dogs and deer.

‘The boy's two shoes were found on the driveway': Child allegedly knocked down by neighbour settles for €1.5m
A boy who it was claimed suffered a brain injury when he was knocked down by a neighbour's car in a housing estate has settled his High Court action for €1.5 million. The boy's mother told the court that the settlement brought an end to a six year legal battle which she said had brought her family 'to its knees.' 'We've had to battle a broken legal system, an outdated and unchanging education system, and a health system that seems so confused about its own roles that it leaves families like ours with no hope', she told Mr Justice Paul Coffey. The mother, who thanked the judge for allowing her voice to be heard, said she has had 'to fill all the gaps left by broken systems'. READ MORE 'Today, I will continue to rebuild our lives. My ongoing battling of systems has been reduced but it doesn't end. It's an ongoing grief and loss of who and what we were as a family,' she added. The child − who, through his mother, brought the case against the neighbour − cannot be identified by order of the court. The settlement is without an admission of liability. The mother's counsel Liam Reidy SC, instructed by McMahon Goldrick solicitors, told the court that the boy, when he was almost five years of age in 2019, was thought to have gone to a neighbour's house. 'The neighbour came holding the child in his arms. He had suffered injuries to the head and abdomen. There were no witnesses to the accident but the boy's two shoes were found on the driveway of the neighbour's house,' counsel told the court. Counsel said the neighbour had asserted that he did not see the child because the boy allegedly came out from behind a wheelie bin. The boy was later discovered to have an acquired brain injury. The boy's mother told the court that while she was 'grateful for this token of support' for her son, 'the reality is that this battle will continue for the rest of our lives − constantly challenging our mental health and our resilience'. She said the accident had impacted on her son's life, and the lives of everyone who loves him. 'He is a real character − kind, sensitive, and polite. He's determined not to let his brain injury stop him from living his life. But like anyone fighting a battle this big, sometimes it gets too much,' she said. She told the judge they had lost the little boy her son used to be. 'He was easy-going, bright, sociable, happy and full of joy. He loved being out with his friends − and then suddenly, that was all gone. The first year was filled with severe headaches and giving his liver time to heal,' she said. In the proceedings against the neighbour, the now 11-year-old boy suing through his mother claimed there was an alleged failure to keep a proper lookout and an alleged failure to have regard to the residential area where children would regularly be about. It was also claimed there was an alleged failure to make sure the way was clear before crossing the public footpath and into the driveway. All of the claims were denied.

Older brother of Oasis duo charged with rape
The older brother of Liam and Noel Gallagher has been charged with rape. Paul Gallagher, aged 59, who lives in East Finchley in north London, is also accused of coercive and controlling behaviour, three counts of sexual assault, three counts of intentional strangulation, two counts of making a threat to kill and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The alleged offences are claimed to have taken place between 2022 and 2024, the Metropolitan Police said. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 27 August. The charges against Gallagher, who is a year older than Noel and seven years older than Liam, were first reported by the Daily Telegraph. Noel and Liam Gallagher, who shot to fame in the mid-1990s, have been performing to sell-out crowds for the first time as part of their Oasis Live '25 Tour, nearly nearly 16 years on from their split. Paul Gallagher has never been part of Oasis. Cate Baccas from the Crown Prosecution Service said: "We can confirm we have authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge Paul Gallagher with rape and other offences following a police investigation. "The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are now active and that he has a right to a fair trial." She added that it is "extremely important" that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could "in any way prejudice these proceedings".
