Paul Pogba joins Monaco on two-year deal

Pogba had been handed a four-year doping ban – following an initial suspension – in March 2024, but was able to resume playing in March this year after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced his punishment to 18 months last October.

He started his senior career at Manchester United before joining Juventus for a first spell in 2012, where he won four successive Serie A trophies along with two Italian Cups and two Italian Supercups.
A move back to United followed in 2016 and he spent six seasons with the club, winning the Europa League and League Cup, making 233 appearances during his time at Old Trafford.
The France international has been capped 91 times by his country and won the World Cup in 2018, where he scored in his team's 4-2 win over Croatia.

Pogba returned to Juventus in 2022 on a four-year deal but was sanctioned in March last year having been provisionally suspended since September 2023 after testing positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA).
However, Pogba lodged an appeal and was successful in getting his suspension reduced.
Monaco finished third in Ligue 1 last season, behind champions Paris St Germain and Marseille and Pogba joins the club on a deal running until June 30, 2027.

Key element in Marcus Rashford Man Utd exit emerges amid Bryan Mbeumo thoughts

Ruben Amorim has already added Matheus Cunha to Manchester United's ranks this summer but further Old Trafford ins and outs are expected before transfer deadline day After watching some of their Premier League rivals strengthen in the early part of the summer, Manchester United are aiming to do the same. Liverpool have announced record signing Florian Wirtz and Manchester CIty made a number of early additions ahead of the Club World Cup, but it's been slower going for Ruben Amorim's side. There was an early bit of business, with Matheus Cunha completing his permanent move from Wolves. United have also handed Tom Heaton a new contract, but the veteran goalkeeper won't be offended if we say fans will likely hope that's not the last announcement of the summer. ‌ One thing which won't be happening this year is an Old Trafford return for Paul Pogba. The French midfielder had been touted for a third spell during his time as a free agent, but has instead opted for a move to Monaco. ‌ Head coach Amorim is looking to freshen up in a number of areas as he aims to build a squad capable of playing to his tactical preferences. Bryan Mbeumo is a major attacking target, while further investment could hinge on an ability to offload some out-of-favour high earners. One of those high earners is Marcus Rashford, and we've got a bit on his next move today. Here are Mirror Football 's latest lines from around Old Trafford. Rashford's ex-colleague shares advice Timothy Fosu-Mensah broke into Manchester United's first team at the same time as Marcus Rashford, and believes the forward needs to ensure he can find a club where he feels good. The Dutch defender made his Premier League bow on the same day as Rashford, and was speaking as he continues his own search for a new club after leaving Bayer Leverkusen in 2024. 'I just want him to be happy. Everybody just wants him to be happy," Fosu-Mensah told The Independent. "The most important things is for him to feel good, for him to feel happy. Look, the quality is definitely there. Nobody needs to say anything about this quality, because he's a top player.' Rashford looked to be enjoying his football during a loan spell at Aston Villa last term, earning an England recall. However, he left at the end of the season after Villa missed out on Champions League qualification. ‌ Dressing room feelings on Mbeumo Matheus Cunha and Joshua Zirkzee both appeared to green-light a move for Bryan Mbeumo with their social media activity. The pair 'liked' a report indicating United are poised to continue talks over a move for the Brentford star. Cameroon international Mbeumo has been eyed by both United and Tottenham. The latter are managed by former Brentford boss Thomas Frank, and can offer Champions League football, but those might not end up being deciding factors. ‌ Mbeumo has a year left on his current deal in West London, and Brentford hold an option to extend it until 2027. He is due back in pre-season training if no agreement can be reached before then, but exit talk persists. Onana could leave on loan Manchester United are ready to sanction a loan exit for Andre Onana, according to The Sun. The former Inter Milan star has had ups and downs since moving to Old Trafford in 2023, and a difficult second half of the 2024-25 season has led to increased chatter around an exit. ‌ Monaco are said to be among the interested parties, though their financial situation has prompted some doubt over a permanent switch. Philipp Kohn and Radoslaw Majecki shared goalkeeping duties at the Ligue 1 club last term as they finished third and qualified for the Champions League Emi Martinez remains an option to replace Onana if United do move for an alternative. If they are to pursue a cheaper alternative, Botafogo keeper John is said to be an option.

Viktor Gyokeres is 'left FURIOUS with Sporting Lisbon after club chief's comments' - as 'betrayed star repeats strike threat' in boost for Arsenal and Man United

Viktor Gyokeres is 'left FURIOUS with Sporting Lisbon after club chief's comments' - as 'betrayed star repeats strike threat' in boost for Arsenal and Man United Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly looking to force a move away from Sporting Lisbon The striker is unhappy at comments that were made by the club's hierarchy LISTEN: Will Liverpool sign Alexander Isak? Merseyside reporter Lewis Steele provides the latest on the potential transfer on Whistleblowers podcast Arsenal and Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres will reportedly attempt to force a transfer from Sporting Lisbon this summer. The striker has been heavily linked with a move away from the Portuguese club, who are attempting to increase the potential fee for a transfer. As reported by Record, Gyokeres will refuse to return to Sporting as he looks to secure a departure. Gyokeres is unhappy with comments made by Sporting president Frederico Varandas. Although he will be given an extra week off before he is expected to return to pre-season training, it is now anticipated that Gyokeres won't show up. Gyokeres has also reportedly threatened to publicly voice his opinion on the situation. The Sweden international isn't pleased at suggestions that the club won't honour the agreement that was in place to let him leave for less than his release clause. Viktor Gyokeres could attempt to force a transfer from Sporting Lisbon this summer Reports have indicated that Gyokeres will refuse to return to Sporting for pre-season training Gyokeres is unhappy with comments made by Sporting president Frederico Varandas Varandas said: 'Sporting is calm regarding this matter. Secondly, Sporting does not need to sell Viktor Gyokeres. Fortunately, we have moved past the phase of selling our main asset. 'However, we remain sensitive to Viktor's dreams or those of any other athlete. Sporting has made a commitment that, after weeks of meetings, we will not demand the full amount of the clause; we will be reasonable regarding the amount requested for Viktor.' Although Varandas acknowledged that Gyokeres is likely to depart, he stated that the fee will be much higher than the potential price of £60million plus £10million in add-ons. He also claimed that Gyokeres is worth more than Matheus Cunha, who joined Manchester United from Wolves for £62.5million. Varandas said: 'Today, there is a strong likelihood that he will leave. I won't disclose the amount, but the player knows what it is. I can say that Viktor will not leave for 60+10m. He won't leave, absolutely not. 'We have been watching the market and I saw [Martin] Zubimendi, who is six months younger than Viktor, leave for €65million. I saw Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, both forwards but who, in my opinion, do not have Viktor's market value or quality, being negotiated for around €75million. 'Given the demands we consider fair, I believe Viktor could leave – unless he has the worst agent in the world, which is hard for me to believe, because he is one of the best footballers in the world.' Gyokeres, whose current contract at Sporting runs until 2028, scored 54 goals in 52 club games last season. Mikel Arteta could look to bring in Gyokeres to add to Arsenal's attacking options Gyokeres has previous experience of working with Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim Both Arsenal and United are looking to add to their attacking options during the summer transfer window. Gyokeres previously worked with United boss Ruben Amorim at Sporting, while he could be tempted by the possibility of joining the Gunners, who have also been linked with RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to snap up former Chelsea and England star at Besiktas

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is bringing in a new striker (Picture: Getty Images) Besiktas have reached an agreement for a major signing this summer, bringing in Tammy Abraham from Roma. Still just 27 years old, Abraham has been in Italy since moving to Roma from Chelsea in 2021. However, he moved to AC Milan on loan last season, where he scored 10 goals in 44 games across all competitions. His first season with Roma was a huge success as he scored 27 goals, but things have tailed off for him since then, not helped by a serious injury. The 11-cap England international is now off to Turkey, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting that an agreement has been hashed out between the clubs and the player is ready to make the move. Confirmation is yet to be reached, but Abraham is due to fly to Türkiye and is expected to complete the switch in the near future. The deal has been done for a fee of 'around' €20m (£17.1m) with Besiktas hoping the Englishman can help them challenge closer to the top of the Super Lig table next season. Tammy Abraham scored just three Serie A goals at AC Milan (Picture: Getty Images) Galatasaray comfortably won the league, with Besiktas finishing fourth and 33 points behind the champions. There were encouraging signs under Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer, though, after the former Manchester United boss took over in mid-January, beating Gala when they met in March. Abraham will be joining a Besiktas front line which was led by Ciro Immobile last season, finishing the club's top-scorer with 19 goals in all competitions at 35 years old. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made 20 appearances in all competitions for Besiktas last season (Picture: Getty Images) He will also be playing alongside fellow Englishman Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has been with Besiktas since 2023. Abraham's career was badly hampered by a serious injury, suffering an ACL tear in April 2023 which sidelined him for a year. When he left Roma for Milan in August 2024 he said he was still recovering from the problem. Abraham did win the Supercoppa Italiana with AC Milan (Picture: Getty Images) 'When I saw Milan were interested in me I did nothing but wait, telling myself a thousand times that it was the place I wanted to be,' he said last year. 'Physically I feel better. I am still recovering from my injury but I feel really good. 'Wanting to leave Roma? No. It's not that I've lost faith at all, but the fans know how important Roma are to me. But sometimes in life there are cases in which you have to move up a level, set the bar higher, and I have I thought this was the right opportunity. I wish Roma the best, but now I'm focused on Milan. 'The first year went very well with Roma, then the second was more difficult. The players are human beings and the injury dragged me down for some time, but this at Milan is my great opportunity to demonstrate that I'm back. My ambition is always to win.'
