WATCH: Jasper Wiese headbutt set to lead to ban
In a moment from Saturday's Test against Italy that the Springboks and Jasper Wiese certainly won't want to see again, the No 8 will have to answer for his red-card offence that saw him sent from the field midway through the first half. After an altercation with Italian players, Wiese was shown a straight red card for what was deemed to be a clear headbutt on Italian prop Danilo Fischetti. The evidence was conclusive enough for the Irish referee not to refer the incident to the bunker, and Wiese will now face a subsequent disciplinary hearing that could lead to a ban for at least a few weeks. The big No 8 has only recently recovered from injury, and there will now be a big job for the likes of Jean-Luc du Preez and Evan Roos to cover eighthman, which is proving to be a bit of a cursed position this season. World Rugby confirmed that Wiese was one of the players who will have their cases heard by an Independent Foul Play Review Committee (FPRC) on Sunday, 13 July, 2025. You can read more about the expedited off-field sanction process here . Rassie Erasmus addressed Wiese's red card to the media directly after the match, expressing support while also choosing his words carefully. 'I'm not able to say it was right or wrong or how bad it was. Jasper must now handle that with our support. He is just so committed and passionate about the team, and it would have been wonderful for him to play in this game with his brother (Cobus), which didn't now happen.' 'It's sad, he's not a guy that goes out there to do those kinds of things, but I don't want to say anything here that can make it better or worse because I'm not 100 percent sure what is the best way to take it forward,' the Bok mentor said. Experienced PSL striker won't join Pirates but could sign for Kaizer Chiefs for free
Former TS Galaxy striker Dzenan Zajmovic could be an option for Kaizer Chiefs, with Orlando Pirates reportedly not interested. The experienced striker scored eight goals for the Rockets last season and has since been without a club. North African teams are interested in his services, but the Bosnian forward wants to return to the PSL. Speaking to KickOff , Zajmovic revealed that two PSL teams have contacted him recently but did not disclose the names. 'Two clubs have already contacted from the PSL. South Africa is a nice country with a good league, and I would love to continue playing there at a new club,' Zajmovic told KickOff . 'I felt at home and will never shut a door for anything to do with South Africa, and my wife and kids know about it. It was an amazing experience being in South Africa. Soccer Laduma reported that Pirates were not keen to sign the 30-year-old striker, leaving Kaizer Chiefs as one of the potential clubs. 'Right now, Pirates is not a likely destination,' a reliable source told the publication. 'There have been rumours, but nothing solid. What's more likely is a move to North Africa, possibly Algeria, where there is interest – and the chance to work again under Sead Ramovic could be part of the equation,' the source added. Kaizer Chiefs signed striker Flavio Silva earlier this month, however, the Portuguese forward is yet to fire. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
