'I instruct the chief secretary and collectors to hold a meeting with managements of educational institutions to give an orientation and remind them of their responsibilites. They will be made accountable if anyone misuses their campus for drug abuse,' Revanth said.
In his speech, he asked managements of the institutes to keep a tab on kirana stores close to campuses as there have been instances of sale of ganja chocolates. 'If they come across such cases, they should inform the police who will take action,' he said.
In his speech, Revanth said Telangana has a reputation for its rich history of revolutionary activities, and hence youth should be protected and the drug menace should be kept in check.
'The people of Punjab are known for playing a dominant role in waging wars for our country. But today, it is known for drug menace and its human resources were weakened by making them addicted to drugs,' Revanth said.
Revanth urged the students to take inspiration from Tollywood actors Ram Charan Tej and Vijay Deverakonda, who were part of the event. 'I have watched Ram Charan grow up. He brought pride to the country by winning an Oscar,' Revanth said.
TGANB (now EAGLE) director Sandeep Shandilya said the state's efficient machinery is doing its best to eliminate the drug menace.
DGP Jitender said conversations and discussions will go a long way in helping end drug consumption amongst the youth.

No free run after bail: Telangana police to detain foreign nationals accused in drug cases

Hyderabad: Foreign nationals arrested for drug peddling in Telangana may no longer walk free even after securing bail. In a significant policy shift, the state police are planning to detain foreign drug offenders in a dedicated detention centre, curbing their movement until the conclusion of trial proceedings. The decision was taken during a recent high-level meeting of senior police officials, in response to a growing pattern— foreign nationals, particularly from some African countries, who after being released on bail, are reportedly resuming drug trafficking operations in different parts of India. 'Once a foreign national gets bail, we are planning to place them in a detention centre to ensure they remain under supervision and do not repeat the offence,' a senior official from the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE), the state's anti-narcotics wing, told TOI. 'This will help us maintain custody and prevent repeat offences,' he said. Officials said work is underway to ensure basic amenities and secure infrastructure are in place before the policy is rolled out. The move comes as Telangana grapples with a rise in synthetic drug trafficking, especially cocaine, largely smuggled into India by accused from select African nations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Seniors Baffled: "It's Like My Knee Pain Never Existed - I Feel Brand New!" Health Journal Learn More Undo Police say tracking these individuals becomes difficult once they are granted bail, as there are no legal provisions to keep them under continuous surveillance. So far this year, 16 foreign nationals have been arrested, and 12 deported. Authorities follow a graded approach: first-time offenders may be deported directly, particularly if they lack valid travel documents. However, repeat offenders or those awaiting trial may now be detained within India, under tighter control. Back in 2023, during the former BRS govt's tenure, there were plans to establish a deportation centre exclusively for undocumented foreigners. The current proposal, however, is distinct—it focuses on detaining those out on bail, pending trial. 'This is a policy-level decision, but implementation details are still being worked out,' a senior police official said. 'Our priority is to ensure that foreign nationals involved in drug networks do not misuse bail to continue illicit activities,' he added. Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday renamed the Telangana Anti Narcotics Bureau (TGNAB) as EAGLE to curb the menace of drugs and consumption of narcotic substances.

"Drug mafias are roaming freely": BJP's Tarun Chugh slams AAP over drug problem in Punjab

New Delhi [India], June 29 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, alleging that drug mafias are operating freely in the state while Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is preoccupied with the hospitality of party convenor Arvind Kejriwal. While speaking to ANI, Tarun Chugh said, 'AAP's governance is primarily for headlines, not for public interest. Drug mafias are roaming freely, and the CM, Bhagwant Mann, is only engaged in the hospitality of Arvind Kejriwal.' He further alleged that the governance failure in Punjab over the last several years has allowed crime and drug-related activities to flourish. 'AAP and Congress have been in power in Punjab for the last 8.5 years... The state has been thrown into the fire of crime and anarchy,' he added. Reiterating the BJP's position on the issue, Chugh added, 'BJP stands strong against drug dealers. No dealer should be spared.' His remarks come amid the arrest of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who was sent to seven days of police custody by a Mohali court on Thursday in connection with a money laundering case linked to drugs. He is scheduled to be produced before the court again on July 2. Meanwhile, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, asserted that the Punjab government is tackling the drug menace at its root. In a post on X, on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Kejriwal wrote, 'Today is the International Day Against Drug Abuse. In Punjab, the AAP government is not just talking - we are taking strong action to make the state drug-free. We're fighting the problem at its root to protect our youth and their future. Let's salute every honest officer, volunteer, and citizen who stands with us in this real battle.' Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also emphasised that their war against drugs has now transformed into a mass movement. 'The campaign we launched from Punjab to eradicate drugs, 'War Against Drugs', has now transformed into a mass movement. Those who ruin families and use the ill-got gains of this sin to build palaces and host lavish parties will not be spared,' CM Mann said while speaking to the media. 'We have improved law and order in Punjab and provided people with a safe environment. By taking the strictest action against drug traffickers, we have forced them to flee Punjab,' he said. (ANI)
