Ranchi: Deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri on Monday held weekly janta darbar (public meeting), where around 101 citizens from rural and urban parts of the district turned up with complaints, ranging from pensions, land encroachment, land mutation delays, among others.
Bhajantri offered on-spot resolution to the people, while in case requiring proper probe, officials were directed to redress on priority.
A teacher, Naresh Rajak, has been struggling to obtain a slip to get his land record corrected for the past seven years at the Namkum zonal office. "My issue was finally resolved today," he said.
In cases involving land disputes, the DC verified the online status of applications and instructed zonal officers over phone to take action.
One Shukar Palak Sangh had during May 19 janta darbar submitted a request to the district administration to curb hotel waste, which affected his business. The deputy commissioner had asked for a detailed list, which was submitted on Monday. Acting upon it, he instructed officials from the Ranchi Municipal Corporation to initiate appropriate action without delay.
In another case, a woman requested for a ration card to avail benefits under the Ayushman Yojana for an urgent operation of her husband, who had suffered a heart attack recently.

Yen tests 2-week high against dollar on US-Japan trade deal

The Japanese yen tests near a two week high against the dollar on Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a trade deal with Japan, bolstering optimism for more agreements ahead of an impending tariff deadline. Trump said that Japan will be subject to reciprocal tariffs of 15% and will open their country to trade, including cars and trucks, rice, and certain other agricultural products. The yen hit its strongest level since July 11 near 146.77 per dollar on the trade news. Dollar index lingering around two week low also provided support for the Japanese currency. However, media reports that Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba will resign as early as this month add a layer of uncertainty and limits gains in the local unit. USDJPY pair is currently quoting at 146.89, but coming off the days high.

Admin to shift protest site from outside Raj Bhavan

1 2 3 Ranchi: The district administration has decided to shift protest zone from outside Raj Bhavan to a new designated area near Naga Baba Khatal Vendor Market, citing traffic management challenges following the completion of the Ratu Road flyover. Deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri said, "With the Ratu Road flyover becoming operational, its ramp near Raj Bhavan has turned into a critical traffic point. Continuous sit-ins outside Raj Bhavan add to congestion. We are therefore relocating the protest site to manage traffic better while ensuring people's right to protest is protected." The administration has identified a roadside patch beside Naga Baba Khatal, previously used for the Ranchi Municipal Corporation's night parking, as the new protest zone. The space is situated just in front of the garbage transfer station in the area. SDO Utkarsh Kumar said, "The Constitution guarantees freedom of speech and expression. Keeping that in mind, protestors will be provided a dedicated site for demonstrations. Transition has begun." However, the move has drawn criticism from several people who feel the shift undermines the symbolic importance of protesting outside the Governor's office. Rajmasih Tigga who was staging a sit-in for 100 consecutive days at the Raj Bhavan protest site said, "The relocation sidelines our voices and dilutes the impact of our demonstration." Despite the objections, authorities said the decision is aimed at balancing civic order with citizens' democratic rights. The new site will soon be equipped with basic facilities to accommodate protestors, officials added.

Upa Lokayuktas tap social media posts for graft clues

BENGALURU: In what could be called 'instant justice', both the Upa Lokayuktas— Justice K N Phaneendra and Justice B Veerappa- are seriously going through the audio and video recordings involving bribery by the State Government officials doing rounds on social media so that action can be initiated against such officials as and when they come to their notice. In one such instance, village administrative officer Ambali Pooja, presently working in Kannamangala Revenue Circle of Doddaballapura taluk, has been suspended on Saturday, hours after the Upa Lokayuktas held a meeting with Bengaluru Rural Deputy Commissioner A B Basavaraju at their office. Despite the video, in which Pooja allegedly demanded Rs 60,000 for issuing khata of the land of a woman, went viral when the former was working in Byrasandra Revenue Circle in Nelamangala, no action was taken. Hence, both Upa Lokayuktas enquired with the DC and apprised him as to why no action was taken and if not now, it is inevitable for them to take up a suo moto case against all the authorities. Later, the DC issued orders suspending Pooja. In another clip depicting an official demanding bribe in Kolar was doing rounds, following with the Kolar DC has been directed to check the veracity of that and take action. With this 'instant justice', the Upa Lokayuktas are not only keeping pace with the change, but also aim to save precious time and man power of holding inquiry years together, despite presence of visible and strong evidence. When contacted, Justice Veerappa said when there is strong evidence to act against erring officials for their misconduct, it is not fair on the part of the competent authorities to be mute spectators instead of taking disciplinary action. Therefore, it was inevitable for them to appraise the DC about inaction against corrupt officials.
