Time of India15-06-2025
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Vaibhavi Deshmukh, daughter of the late Massajog sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh from Beed district, is receiving widespread commendation for scoring 147 marks in NEET — a remarkable achievement given the challenges she faced.
Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar lauded Vaibhavi's success, calling it more than just an academic accomplishment. He emphasized that her story serves as a powerful lesson on facing adversity and achieving one's goals.
"Your success will inspire the new generation. Vaibhavi, your achievement can't be measured in terms of marks alone. Even in the most adverse circumstances, you didn't get discouraged or distracted.
By overcoming sorrow with patience and hard work, you pursued your dream and saw it through," Pawar said in a post on X.
The deputy CM praised Vaibhavi's admirable determination, perseverance, and maturity, offering his best wishes for her future educational endeavours. Vaibhavi shared with the media that she received congratulatory calls from various prominent figures, including deputy CM Eknath Shinde and NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule.

"I am getting calls from many, but I miss my father, who is not with me right now, to pat me on my back. The entire state, our community, stood behind me, and I expected such support to fulfil my father's dream for me," Vaibhavi said.
She added that the blessings of her father would remain with her forever, even if he is not physically present with her.
The Massajog sarpanch was allegedly abducted, brutally tortured, and eventually murdered on Dec 9 last year for resisting a multi-crore extortion bid on a private energy company.
Meanwhile, the Deshmukh family and Masaajog villagers have postponed their sit-in agitation they planned from Monday.

Keep central Kolkata free from 9 am to 11 am on July 21 for office commute: Cal HC tells Kol Police

1 2 Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Friday directed Kolkata Police to ensure that no procession for the July 21 rally takes place between 9 am and 11 am and that there is no traffic congestion on routes leading to the high court and other offices located within a five-kilometre radius in central Kolkata. Taking into account the submission of Trinamool counsel Biswaroop Bhattacharyya that the Martyrs' Day rally by Trinamool since 1994 may draw approximately 10 lakh people, Justice Tirthankar Ghosh imposed the curbs on the procession while also considering July 21 to be a working day (Monday). The petition was filed by All India Lawyers' Union after their representation to Kolkata Police commissioner was not replied to. The judge acknowledged that since the hearing was taking place close to rally date, he would not stop it but would impose a few restrictions. The judge directed, "All human processions within KP jurisdiction would be allowed till 8 am and an hour would be granted for settling the crowd which have already entered. From 9 am to 11 am, police authority would ensure that there is no traffic congestion on routes that will lead to the HC or to the fringe of five kilometres where offices are situated in central Kolkata. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo On and from 11 am, resumption of procession as usually prescribed would take place. The judge on Thursday asked Trinamool whether it was willing to "change with time" and shift its July 21 rally to Brigade Parade Ground, Shahid Minar or Salt Lake Stadium from 2026. While stating that sufficient arrangements have been made, advocate general Kishore Datta submitted that an additional traffic helpline was also created. On management of traffic by KP, Justice Ghosh observed, "Hardly have I experienced dissatisfaction with the job of KP. I have hardly transferred investigation to CBI or any central agency unless it's banking authority or public sector undertaking." AG Datta also submitted that while the organisation showed traffic regulation notification for July 21, such "restriction, regulation and diversions" are also there for other rallies, meetings, or visits of VVIPs like the PM or President. The organisation's counsel Shamim Ahmed submitted, "The same traffic curbs were given last year and the year before as well…These notifications and assurance that they have given is basically paperwork which has nothing to do with reality, and that's why Bar has taken resolution and Don Bosco school has issued notice, the ferry ghat has issued notice stopping the service." Trinamool's counsel accepted that a few south Kolkata schools may have done so but verbally remarked on there being no major traffic issues on July 21, previously also. The judge said, "I will take it as an undertaking that there will be smooth traffic movement." Ahmed stated that a similar notification was claimed to have been issued on July 16 by the CP which also is of the "same tenor and tune" as was issued in previous years, however, lawyers, litigants and office-goers faced the same inconvenience.

A tale of 2 criminals: Friend-turn-foe is prime suspect in Chandan Mishra murder

Patna: The shocking murder of gangster Chandan Mishra inside a ward of a private hospital in Patna on July 17 marked the end of a sweet-bitter partnership-cum-rivalry between two notorious criminals that began as juveniles. The prime suspect — mastermind behind the murder — is said to be Chandan's former associate and once close friend, Onkarnath Singh, alias Sheru. The duo, who once terrorised the Shahabad region of Bihar, experienced a dramatic turn in their relationship from friends to foe. Their partnership, which began while serving time in a remand home in 2009, dominated four districts — Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas and Kaimur — through a reign of terror lasting nearly a decade. The gang was involved in the murder of a coaching operator and policeman on jail duty in Bhojpur district among others. It gained attention after the gang announced to kill Buxar's lime trader Rajendra Kesari when he refused to pay extortion, and the next day on Aug 21, 2011, Chandan did just that. However, a rift occurred in the Chandan-Sheru gang again while serving jail terms, this time as adults, in 2015. They had formed a gang after coming out of the juvenile home, and became notorious for extortion, murders and brazen shoot-outs. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Their signature method involved motorcycle-borne shootings using 9mm pistols, targeting businessmen, contractors and law enforcement officials. For Chandan, it all started during a match at Sonbarsa Cricket Ground in Buxar around 2006. While playing, a fight broke out between Chandan and one Sonu Mishra from his village. Chandan went to Sonu's house to complain, but was beaten up instead. After returning home, he took his father's licensed rifle and shot Sonu dead, marking the beginning of his tainted career. An Inter commerce student then, Chandan was caught by the villagers and handed over to police. He spent three-and-a-half years in jail, before being sent to a remand home after his family provided proof of him being a minor. Chandan, however, managed to escape, during a court appearance in Buxar in Oct 2010. Sheru was in the juvenile home for killing his uncle. The first murder by the Chandan-Sheru duo was of Naushad, the former head of Naya Bhojpur panchayat (Buxar). According to Chandan's confession, Naushad wanted to have them killed. One Ilyas Mian was acting as a middleman. Although Chandan or Sheru did not know Naushad, they used an associate to identify him. They followed Naushad on a bike and shot him in head with 9mm bullets, which went on to become their modus operandi. It is said the Chandan-Sheru gang members used to live in Maulabag area of Buxar. The Chandan-Sheru gang committed six murders in 2011, including of Kesari on Aug 21 that year, and one each in 2012 and 2013. After the murder of Kesari, both fled to Kolkata, where they were arrested, before being presented in court on Dec 17, 2012. During this time, Sheru snatched a weapon from a guard in the court, shot him, and escaped by jumping over a wall. However, a few days later, Sheru was arrested in Ara. Once again, Chandan and Sheru were imprisoned in Buxar jail. But yet another fight led to Chandan's break-up with Sheru. On the evening of July 23, 2015, a fight broke out in Buxar jail between the two friends over the distribution of extortion money, indicating that their partnership had ended. Afterwards, Chandan was transferred to Bhagalpur and then to Beur jail in Patna. Sheru was sentenced to death by the lower court, which was later commuted to life imprisonment by the Patna high court. It is almost after a decade that Sheru is suspected to end it all by killing Chandan.

Farmers slam top cops comments on crime rise during agriculture lean period

Patna: Farmers in Bihar are angry over remarks of two senior police officials—DGP Vinay Kumar and ADG (headquarters) Kundan Krishnan—that criminal incidents register an increase during the agricultural lean period from April to June when the harvesting is over and the farmers have more idle time. Describing the remarks as "very shocking", farmers told TOI that it was very strange they are being described as a community for whom crime happens to be a "side business". They lamented that such remarks would break the morale of the farmers who toil hard throughout the year to feed the nation. They added that police officials were issuing such remarks to hide their own failures. "It is so pathetic. Farmers are being projected as criminals. Do we walk with guns in hand, shooting people when we have no work in the fields? This is a very strange remark," Pragatisheel Krishi Manch's convenor Kishore Jaiswal said on Friday, totally disagreeing with the top cops' remarks. Stating that such antics on the part of the police would only discourage farmers from taking agricultural work, Jaiswal asked the officials not to destroy the social fabric in this way. "They are indirectly saying that farmers have been hatching conspiracies for crime when they have no work. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo This is very dangerous. How can they say this? Their remarks mean they are alien to society and point towards the immaturity of the bureaucracy," Jaiswal said. He recalled how a former Bihar DGP had extensively travelled the Mokama Tal areas and formed peace committees, which was a unique model for police outreach among the rural areas. "Now they are pointing fingers at the farmers, although many officials might have come from the farming background," he said. Describing the remarks as very disgusting, Rajiv Kumar Singh, a farmer from Munger, said farmers don't have free time throughout the year and they always think about the country's growth. "They (police officials) have no idea about the period from April to June which they say is an agricultural lean time. They must know that after harvesting the Rabi crops, the farmers plough the land and ready the farm fields for the Kharif crops," Singh said. He said farmers cannot be involved in criminal incidents, although there could be some exceptions. "Kisan kabhi apradhi nahin ho sakta; wah to anndata hai (Farmers can never be criminals; they are grain growers)," said Binod Kumar Mandal, a farmer from Araria. Another farmer, Sadanand Singh, while rejecting such remarks, asked the police force not to tarnish the image of the farming class. "Kisan apradhi ho jayega toh ann kahan se aayega (If farmers become criminals, then from where will the grains come)," said Bhagwat Sahani, a farmer Araria.
