IND vs AUS: 'He must fix his attitude'- Australia's World Cup hero warns Shubman Gill before Edgbaston Test

Former Australian wicketkeeper-batter
Brad Haddin
has called for India's new Test captain
Shubman Gill
to make an "attitude adjustment" following India's five-wicket loss to England in the first Test match of the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy 2025 at Headingley.
The defeat, which came despite India having five centurions in the match, was largely attributed to poor fielding performance, where the team dropped eight catches across two innings, allowing England to successfully chase down a target of 371 runs.

India's fielding lapses proved particularly costly in the case of England opener Ben Duckett, who was dropped in both innings and went on to score 211 runs in the match, including a match-winning 149 in the fourth innings.
Duckett's performance earned him the Player of the Match award and helped England take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

"Every great team, no matter what year you're playing, the one standout feature they've always had is that they've been a great fielding team. And I think that is one legacy Gill has start to leave now on this team. He needs an attitude adjustment," Haddin said while speaking on the Willow Talk podcast.
The former Australian keeper also pointed to potential issues stemming from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, suggesting a connection between the tournament and the declining catching standards.
Quiz:
Who's that IPL player?
"If you want to field well and compete the whole time, it's only attitude. You can do all your technical work off the field and have as many coaches as anyone, but it won't matter. Even in the IPL this year, the catching was horrible.
And that could be a byproduct," Haddin added.
The Indian team's fielding performance overshadowed their batting display, where they managed to post competitive totals in both innings. The pace attack, despite having spearhead
Jasprit Bumrah
, struggled to make an impact and was further hampered by the dropped catches.
Team India is now preparing for the second Test match scheduled to take place at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham from July 2-6, 2025.
The team will need to address their fielding concerns to level the series.
England has announced their squad for the second Test, with Ben Stokes continuing as captain. The squad includes key players like
Jofra Archer
, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, and Chris Woakes, among others, as they look to build on their advantage in the series.

"They Ruined November 19...": Rohit Sharma On Team India's Mindset While Playing Australia
November 19 is a date that most fans of Indian cricket do not remember fondly. After an invincible World Cup campaign, India suffered heartbreak in the final, losing to Australia on November 19, 2023. However, some months later, India exacted somewhat of a revenge when they defeated Australia in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma, India's ODI captain, reflected on the feeling he had after the defeat in the World Cup final, and what it meant to beat Australia en route to the T20 World Cup title. Rohit pioneered India's victory over Australia in the T20 World Cup. Batting first, Rohit smashed 92 runs off just 41 balls, taking India to a daunting total of 205 in 20 overs. Australia ultimately felt 24 runs short, receiving a major blow to their semi-final hopes. Rohit looked back on his knock: "The anger was always there. It was in the back of my mind," said Rohit, in an interview with Star Sports. " Inhone hamaara 19 November kharaab kar diya, humaara nahi poore desh ka (They ruined November 19 for us. Not only for us, but also for the entire country). We should reserve something for them. We should also give them a nice gift. You have such thoughts in your mind," Rohit added. Rohit smashed Australian pacer Mitchell Starc for 29 runs in the third over of the innings. Starc was taken to the cleaners, being slammed for four sixes and a boundary in that one over. Rohit clarified that the idea of avenging their World Cup final defeat only happened before the match, and not while actually playing. "But when you're batting, you're not thinking, 'I want to knock them out of the tournament'. Yes, in the dressing room we keep talking about these things. There's that kind of fun that, yes, inko bahar karte hai, maza aayega (let's knock them out, it'll be fun)," Rohit said.

Shreyas Iyer not in Test contention yet, says former India cricketer: 'His time will come'
Shreyas Iyer (AP Photo) Former India opener Aakash Chopra has poured cold water on hopes of seeing Shreyas Iyer in India's Test squad anytime soon, despite the 30-year-old's standout performances in recent months across formats. While Iyer was India's top scorer in their victorious ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign and had a stellar run in both the IPL and domestic red-ball season, Chopra believes there is a long queue ahead of him when it comes to Test selection. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "Shreyas Iyer won't get a chance now. Many others haven't gotten a chance either," Chopra said on his YouTube channel. "If you think about it, Karun Nair has only just gotten his chance. Sarfaraz Khan hasn't been given a shot. Dhruv Jurel is waiting on the sidelines. If he cannot even get among those who are in the waiting line, then how can he be considered for selection?" Jasprit Bumrah Breathes Fire in the Nets | IND vs ENG 2nd Test Prep Iyer has indeed had a superb run. He scored 480 runs in just seven innings in the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy at an average of 68.57 and a strike rate above 90. He then followed it up with a career-best IPL season, scoring 604 runs in 17 matches and leading Punjab Kings to their first final in nine years. Poll Do you think Shreyas Iyer deserves a spot in India's Test squad? Yes, based on his recent performances No, there are other deserving players Maybe, it depends on future performances Still, Chopra emphasised that red-ball opportunities will only come with patience.
