Karnataka Minister orders counselling-based transfers to end influence in skill development Dept
During a departmental review meeting, Patil instructed Skill Development Secretary Ekroop Caur to draft comprehensive guidelines for the new system, with particular focus on the Department of Employment and Training , which has one of the largest employee bases under the ministry.
"To put an end to the practice of employees seeking transfers through influence and recommendations, all postings should now be done through counselling. This will also enable staff to secure postings at preferred locations," the minister said in a statement.
Patil reminded that the state government has already set June 16 as the deadline for general transfers of government employees and officials.
Taking a strong stance on administrative inefficiency, Patil criticised senior officials in the department for "failing" to effectively implement government programmes.
He directed the secretary to issue show-cause notices and transfer the concerned officials without delay.
Meanwhile, in a significant initiative aimed at enhancing youth employability, Patil directed institutions like the Government Tool and Training Centre , Karnataka German Technical Training Institute , and departments under the National Livelihood Mission to enrol applicants from the Yuvanidhi scheme and Udyoga Melas into short, and long-term skill development programmes.
Yuvanidhi is a government scheme that provides domicile Karnataka candidates who graduated or completed diploma courses in 2023 with an unemployment allowance for two years. Udyoga Mela is a job fair organised by the Karnataka government to provide employment opportunities to unemployed youth.
"Despite being graduates, many candidates at job fairs are rejected due to a lack of soft and technical skills. We must use the vast database of Yuvanidhi and Udyoga Mela applicants to bridge this gap with relevant training," he added.

Jayakwadi dam gates open after storage crosses 90%
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: For the first time since 1979, the Jayakwadi dam has started discharging water in July, as its storage capacity crossed the 90%-mark. On Thursday, authorities opened a total of 18 gates by half-a-foot each, releasing 9,432 cusecs into the Godavari river. The opening of the gates at Jayakwadi, one of Asia's largest dams with as many as 27 gates, drew large crowds who were eager to witness the unusual spectacle. Security personnel were also present to ensure public safety and prevent people from getting too close to the surging water. Before the discharge commenced, water resources minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil performed the traditional "jalpoojan" ceremony. "Efforts will be made to divert 65 billion cubic feet of water from the Godavari, which would otherwise flow into the sea, to water-deficient regions. This initiative aligns with the CM's vision of making Maharashtra drought-free," he said. Following the water release, the administration has issued an alert to the villages situated along the banks of Godavari, advising them to remain vigilant. During the function, Shiv Sena MLA Vilas Bhumre demanded that the dam's water be supplied through a closed-pipeline system to prevent wastage. MLAs Ramesh Bornare, Himmat Udan, Vitthalrao Langhe and Vijaysingh Pandit, along with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district collector Dilip Swami, water resources department executive director Santosh Tirmanwar, superintendent engineers Prashant Sant and Samadhan Sabbinwar were also present. Jayakwadi currently holds 95.15 TMC of water, with the storage level at 90.13%. On Thursday, the water level in the reservoir stood at 1,520.18 ft, with an inflow of 16,230 cusecs. "The discharge is being carried out as per the dam's reservoir regulation guidelines," said the authorities. Vikhe-Patil said govt is encouraging renewable energy projects such as a 12 MW hydropower unit and floating solar panels on the dam. He also announced Rs150 crore for the Brahm Gavhan lift irrigation scheme, promising its completion within a year. "Desilting of the Jayakwadi dam to enhance its storage capacity will also be taken up," he said.

Akola: Senior Congress leader and noted orthopaedic surgeon Dr Abhay Patil, who contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election on a Congress ticket, has quit the party. He announced his resignation through a Facebook post on Tuesday, stating that he is stepping down from the party's primary membership. The resignation sparked speculation within political circles, particularly due to its timing — coming shortly after the announcement of a new District Congress Committee. Sources claimed that Dr Patil was upset over not being consulted during the formation of the new leadership panel. But he cited personal reasons. "Being occupied with my medical profession and social work, I was unable to dedicate sufficient time to party activities. Holding a position without contributing actively is against my principle. Hence, I decided to step down," he said. He denied any dissatisfaction with the newly-appointed district committee. "There is no resentment. The party has always supported me and given me numerous opportunities," he said. In 2024, Dr Patil contested from Akola constituency as a Congress candidate. He secured 4,16,404 votes but lost to BJP 's Anup Dhotre. He is former general secretary of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee and regional coordinator of Maratha Kranti Morcha for Akola and Washim. He is actively involved in various religious and social initiatives.

Malegaon blast verdict: Ex-judge calls acquittal ‘death of justice', AIMIM state chief says state should appeal against verdict in SC
Former Bombay High Court judge B G Kolse-Pati expressed 'shock' at the NIA court judgement in the Malegaon bomb case, while describing it as 'death of justice' and 'a blow to India's democracy and secularism'. Minutes after the verdict was pronounced, Kolse-Patil told The Indian Express, 'I found it extremely difficult to believe that six people died in the Malegaon bomb blast, 100 were injured, and no one has been found guilty in the last 17 years. If no one is guilty, did the blast take place on its own? The ownership of the motorcycle which was used for the blast was proved. There were four meetings between the accused before the blasts. One meeting was held in Bhopal, two in Indore and one in Ujjain. They had recorded the meetings. When they were asked by ATS as to why the meetings were recorded, they said it was done to ensure that no one who attended it betrays them.' The retired judge said that the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), then led by Hemant Karkare, had investigated the case thoroughly and After Karkare's death, the chargesheet was filed. He said the The chargesheet was self-explanatory as it stated that there were several audio clips of the meetings held by the accused. He said it could transcribe only a few and therefore the ATS submitted the laptop of the accused to the court along with the chargesheet. In the charge-sheet, the ATS said 'it was a big conspiracy to topple the central government, deny the existence of the Indian Constitution and bring in Manusmriti'. 'It was also mentioned in the chargesheet that the accused had tried to take the help of Israel and Nepal,' Kolse-Patil added. He said if proper evidence was been placed before the court, then the judge cannot be blamed. 'But if adequate evidence has been produced by the prosecution and still the accused have been acquitted, then I will call it death of justice and a blow to India's democracy and secularism,' he said. Retired Maharashtra Inspector General of Police S M Mushrif said, 'I… was not shocked because of what is happening under the current regime. Actually, it was a clear-cut case in which the accused should have been held guilty. In my 35-year police career, I had never seen the kind of scientific evidence that was produced in this case. It was a water-tight case.' Mushrif said he had read the chargesheet which was submitted by the ATS just a couple of months after the death of Karkare. 'In the chargesheet, it is mentioned that for the blast conspiracy, four meetings were held between the accused. 'In the chargesheet it was stated that the first meeting was held in April 2008 in which Pragya Thakur and Lt Col Purohit were present. In this meeting, it had been decided that Malegaon was dominated by Muslims and therefore they should trigger the blast there. In the second meeting held in Indore in June 2008, Thakur had come to the meeting with two people and described them as experts. Both of them are absconding till date. In the third meeting in July 2008, Thakur had complained that even after she had given two people to them, Purohit was not giving them RDX. The fourth meeting was held in Ujjain. Purohit had come with one of his associates. Purohit said RDX should be given… The two who are absconding were then given the RDX. The recordings of this meeting was tested in the forensic laboratory. In this case, the CDR of the call exchanges between the accused was also seized which also provided concrete proof.' AIMIM Maharashtra president Imtiaz Jaleel said, 'Six people died in the bomb blast. Even if one person had died, he should have got justice. But in the Malegaon blast case, justice has not been done. All seven accused have been acquitted. What message have we sent to those who are involved in terror activities and those want to divide our people? Five judges changed in the case, chargesheet of thousands of pages was filed and then supplementary chargesheet was filed, scores of witnesses were brought in… The court should tell us whether fake evidence was placed before it and who are the people responsible for this.' Jaleel said the Malegaon NIA court verdict has raised doubts about the judicial system. 'All political parties need to ponder over the verdict seriously. A two day Parliament session should be convened to discuss and debate about our judicial system.' Jaleel said the state government should appeal against the verdict in the Supreme Court. 'Actually, the Supreme Court should review this judgement… The state government should appeal in the SC. I don't think the state government will not appeal in the court. If the state government does not appeal, then it will raise a question as to why it appealed against the verdict in the Mumbai train blast case.' Activist Niranjan Takle said besides the seven accused, there were two others who have been declared absconders in the case and have not been found so far. 'After the blast, I checked the registers of two hotels in which the name of the two absconders are mentioned. They stayed in Malegaon for one and a half days.
