Commanders Thrilled With Work Ethic From Brian Robinson Jr.
Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. is entering the final year of his contract. At 26 years old, the Alabama product knows he doesn't have many opportunities left to receive a massive payday.

It's why he's going all-out to try and help Washington win in 2025. A strong season from him would not just get the Commanders back to the playoffs, but would set himself up for a potential long-term deal afterwards.
The Commanders understand Robinson's current contract situation. They also know he isn't the only runner playing for his future in 2025.
Veteran Austin Ekeler is well past his prime as a 30-year-old dual-threat runner. He originally signed with Washington last season because they could offer him the ability to split carries with a player like Robinson.
With both backs fighting for their future - and amid trade rumors that just won't go away - Washington has been pleased with what they have seen from both players during offseason workouts.

Robinson, in particular, has caught the eye of offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.
"B-Rob's a guy who has played an incredibly high level," Kingsbury said. "I thought early in the year when he was really healthy, he was what we expect him to be, and the focus this offseason has been great."
Washington knows they have a strong collection of running backs. The duo of Robinson and Ekeler is in some ways as solid as any in the league.
Both are looking for future deals past this season, though. If Robinson can build off his strong month of May, he'll be in for a breakout season. … One that Washington has been hoping to see for years.

A new contract - somewhere - would soon follow if so.

DeMaurice Smith slams Roger Goodell, Jerry Jones, Aaron Rodgers in new book
DeMaurice "De" Smith hasn't served as the NFL Players Association's executive director for more than two years. But there's clearly no love lost between him and some of the NFL's most important figures. According to Awful Announcing, Smith plans to publish his new book, "Turf Wars," in early August. In it, he slams NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones, former NFL general counsel Jeff Pash and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Smith calls Goodell "a cold, dark void" who "was in the employ of madmen." Jones is characterized as stingy despite his estimated net worth extending into the tens of billions in recent years. Smith writes, "If Jerry Jones saw a dollar bill on the ground, I truly believe he'd stop and pick it up." NFL COLLUSION: In stunning ruling, arbitrator finds NFL encouraged collusion Jones is one of the main names called out in the book, though Smith doesn't let the rest of owners off the hook either. Awful Announcing's report on the early copy of "Turf Wars" includes that its author calls the overall group of NFL owners "a cabal of greedy billionaires." Notably, and despite the general characterization of NFL owners, Patriots owner Robert Kraft receives a nod in the acknowledgements section of Smith's book, according to Awful Announcing. The worst of all top NFL officials, according to Smith, is Pash, who retired in 2024 after 40 years of working with the league. Smith calls Pash "definitely the most unscrupulous. In a corporation filled with ruthless people, Pash has everyone else beat." AARON RODGERS: Steelers QB hosts DK Metcalf, other teammates for Malibu workout Smith didn't stop at calling out NFL executives, either. Awful Announcing reported that the former head of the NFLPA called Rodgers "the god of Cheesehead Nation" and "isolated and dismissive." Writes Smith: "He sat in the back row of the meeting room, issuing loud sighs before standing for a dramatic exit. An incredible quarterback, to be sure, but an even more impressive antagonist." That wasn't all. "In August 2021, my phone chirped with a text from Aaron Rodgers," Smith writes. "'Can you call me?' it read. Could I not run into traffic instead?" Smith's criticism of players didn't stop with Rodgers. Also on the chopping block is Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, who Smith calls out for criticizing players that kneeled during the national anthem because it "may be hurting the game and having an effect on revenue." NFL 2025: Predicting the 4 most explosive offensive players in the league Smith served as the NFLPA's executive director from 2009 until 2023. During his tenure, he dealt with the 2011 NFL lockout amid new contract bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations and the "Deflategate" incident from the 2014 AFC championship game. Smith also was the man who filed the initial complaint with arbitrator Christopher Droney that accused NFL owners of collusion. Droney ultimately dismissed the case, though not before noting in a 61-page document that the NFL Management Council "encouraged 32 member Clubs of the NFL to reduce guarantees in future contracts with players at the March 2022 annual meeting." The report ultimately found that NFL owners had not been engaging in collusive conduct, but the document remained under wraps until Pablo Torre unveiled it on his podcast, "Pablo Torre Finds Out" late last month.

Packers' Jordan Love Called Out Ahead of Pivotal 2025 Season
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Green Bay Packers and Jordan Love enter the 2025 NFL season with big expectations. They expect to be a top-tier contender in the NFC and one of the top Super Bowl contenders in the entire league. Over the last couple of years since Aaron Rodgers departed, Love has been able to lead the Packers to the playoffs in each season. However, the team has been eliminated in the Divisional Round of the playoffs and in the Wild Card. In the third year with Love as the team's starter, the expectations have increased. Jordan Love #10 of the Green Bay Packers warms up prior to an NFL preseason football game against the Baltimore Ravens at Lambeau Field on August 24, 2024 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He had a solid season, but it wasn't great. Love's performance left a lot to be desired. Heading into the 2025 campaign, Love has received a new major warning. NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has issued a strong message to Love. He believes that the Green Bay quarterback will be on the hot seat if he doesn't pick up his level of play. "He's not on the hot seat per se, but he needs to play better in 2025 than he did in 2024," Florio said. "If not, he will be on the hot seat in 2026. The wild card in Green Bay is new CEO Ed Policy, who operates as the de facto owner of the team." That strong warning is warranted. Love is getting paid like a top quarterback in the NFL. He needs to start producing at that level. During the 2024 campaign, Love played in 15 regular season games. He completed 63.1 percent of his pass attempts for 3,389 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Read more: Steelers, TJ Watt Contract Situation Takes New Turn While the overall production was solid, there were quite a few games where Love was a non-factor. That cannot keep happening if the Packers are going to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Entering the 2025 season, Love has a ton of weapons and another offseason of work. He should show an improved version of himself. If he doesn't, Green Bay may need to have some tough conversations. Hopefully, all of this is completely put to rest by Love. He's more than capable of a breakout season, but he needs to show it on the field. For more Green Bay Packers and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
