UP govt acquires 600 acres in Gorakhpur for new industrial township
While Gida has acquired 600 acres for the township in the 17 villages, the acquisition process is ongoing to increase the land inventory
Virendra Singh Rawat Lucknow
The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has acquired 600 acres in Gorakhpur, the political stronghold of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, to attract investment and accelerate industrial growth in the state's eastern region (Purvanchal). The site has been slated for the development of a modern industrial township under the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority. The proposed 'Dhuriyapar Industrial Township' or 'Greater Gida' aims to increase investments in Eastern UP, which lags Western UP. Gida Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Anuj Malik said the master plan for the township has been approved, and the land allotment process —spanning two industrial sectors — will begin soon. While Gida has acquired 600 acres for the township in the 17 villages, the acquisition process is ongoing to increase the land inventory.
Leading companies, including the Adani group, are interested in setting up their units in the Greater Gida enclave. According to officials, the Adani group was considering setting up a cement factory under the ACC brand. Shree Cement and Keyaan Distillery have also sought parcels for their greenfield projects in the township. The Yogi-led government was also planning to establish an electronic manufacturing cluster within the township, officials added. Once completed, the Dhuriyapar Industrial Township would become one of the largest industrial land banks in Purvanchal. The recently inaugurated 91 km Gorakhpur Link Expressway will also boost the prospects of the upcoming industrial hub. At the UP Global Investors Summit (GIS) in February 2023, the state had secured fresh investment proposals worth ~40 trillion. The state now plans to host the GIS 2.0 in the current financial year. Major private investor, SLMG Beverages, a Coca-Cola bottling partner, was planning a phased investment of ~8,000 crore to expand its supply network, the company's deputy CEO Rahul Kumar said. SLMG holds nearly 50 per cent of the beverage market share in UP, and operates 7 bottling plants across eastern and western regions. The growing network of expressways, airports, proposed logistics and export hubs has contributed to a marked improvement in the 'ease of doing business' perception, thus translating into growing private investment. Besides manufacturing, the Yogi government is also promoting the services sectors, viz. tourism and information technology (IT) sectors, for boosting socioeconomic development and creating jobs.

UAE summer hiring: Expats wanted for Dubai government jobs with salaries up to Dh50,000
Despite slower private-sector hiring, Dubai's government continues recruiting skilled global talent and expats across sectors like healthcare, urban planning, and transport this summer. The UAE job market in 2025 is evolving amid economic shifts and global uncertainties, with hiring showing signs of both caution and opportunity. As reported by local news outlet, Gulf News, demand for skilled professionals remains strong in sectors like construction, banking, and technology, but overall hiring has slowed entering the second half of the year. This slowdown is largely due to new corporate tax pressures and unclear economic conditions, which have caused many companies to postpone major recruitment decisions until after Q4 2025, when tax filings clarify plans for 2026. AI and automation are also reshaping roles, prompting employers to take a more measured approach to hiring. Despite these challenges, sectors such as transport and logistics continue to offer promising openings. Amid this cautious environment, government jobs stand out as particularly attractive to expats, offering stability, benefits, and competitive pay. Dubai is actively recruiting experienced expatriates through its official portal, where a range of positions are available, some with salaries reaching up to Dh50,000 per month. This reflects a strategic shift: while the UAE has traditionally focused on Emirati talent in public service, the current recruitment drive highlights the value placed on global expertise to support Dubai's ambitions in urban planning, healthcare, digital infrastructure, aviation safety, and cultural preservation. Contrary to myths about summer hiring freezes, government recruitment often continues or even intensifies during this period. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo This approach offers expatriates not just jobs, but careers with purpose, stability, and attractive compensation. Amazon awarded ₹23.7 crore in damages, ₹77 crore towards legal costs by Singapore arbitration body in Future Group case
Amazon has been awarded a sum of ₹ 23.7 crore by the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) in damages linked to the tech giant's prolonged battle with Kishore Biyani-led Future Group, a new report has said. As per a report by Bar and Bench, the SIAC ruled that Future Group had breached its contractual obligations to Amazon when it entered into an agreement with Reliance, which was in violation to the terms of the pre-existing agreement. Livemint could not independently verify the details of the sum awarded to Amazon. This article will be updated once there is a confirmation. Amazon had originally sought ₹ 1,436 crore in damages — which is the amount it invested in Future Coupons Private Limited. However, it has only been awarded ₹ 23.7 crore. The company had also sought the legal costs it incurred in the arbitration proceedings as well as cases it had fought before courts and tribunals in India. According to sources quoted by Bar and Bench, the three-member SIAC tribunal held that the Future Group had indeed breached the contract and awarded 60 per cent of the legal costs that Amazon incurred during arbitration proceedings. It also refused to grant any costs related to the initiation or defence of allied proceedings. As per estimates quoted by the legal publication, Amazon awarded ₹ 77 crore and ₹ 6 crore in legal costs and arbitration fees, as opposed to the ₹ 125 crore it spent. The three-member tribunal comprised Prof Albert Jan van den Berg, Prof Jan Paulsson and Senior Counsel Michael Hwang. Future Group and Amazon had been locked in a bitter battle for over a year following a decision by the Indian retailer to sell its Big Bazaar business to Reliance Retail, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries. The deal was opposed by NV Investment Holdings LLC on grounds that its investment of ₹ 1,400 crore in Future Coupons, which is one of promoters of Future Retail, does not allow Future to sell retail assets to certain companies, including Reliance. At stake was whether Amazon can become a bigger force in a $900 billion retail market, with 1.3 billion consumers, than Reliance. The dispute arose in August 2020 when a deb-laden and loss incurring Future Group announced a ₹ 24,713 crore deal to sell its retail, wholesale, logistics and warehousing businesses to Reliance Industries. Amazon had raised immediate objections.
