Packers' Rashan Gary must be more disruptive to regain status as one of NFL's top edge rushers
Fowler spoke with coaches, executives and scouts to rank players at every position. Not surprisingly, Gary failed to gain recognition as a top player after a solid but far from spectacular 2024 season.
Gary produced 7.5 sacks, 15 quarterback hits and 47 pressures across 416 pass-rushing snaps last season. In 2023, Gary had 9.0 sacks, 22 quarterback hits and 60 pressures on 384 pass-rushing snaps, so his production dipped rather significantly last season, even if Gary was an effective run-stopping defensive end in Year 1 in Jeff Hafley's defense.
At Pro Football Focus, Gary's pass-rushing grade has fallen each of the last three seasons. He was at his best in 2021, when he created a career-best 81 pressures, 9.5 sacks and 28 quarterback hits. While a solid all-around edge rusher, Gary will need to be far more disruptive as a pass-rusher to regain his status as one of the NFL's best.
Can Gary rediscover his pass-rushing capabilities as a second-year player in Hafley's defense? The Packers need more from everyone up front in 2025, including Gary, to improve as a pass-rushing unit.

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Luis Sharpe, a three-time Pro Bowl selection at left tackle for the Cardinals during the franchise's time in both St. Louis and Arizona, has died. He was 65. The Cardinals confirmed Sharpe's death through his family, a team spokesman said Saturday. Sharpe's wife, Tameka Williams-Sharpe, also posted about her husband's passing on social media. The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Sharpe played all 13 of his NFL seasons with the Cardinals, spanning from 1982 to 1994. He started all 189 games he played in the NFL and was one of the team's best players during their transition from St. Louis to Arizona in 1988. Auburn star Tahaad Pettiford arrested on DUI charge
Auburn basketball star Tahaad Pettiford was arrested on Saturday morning with a DUI charge in Lee County, Alabama, per jail logs obtained by ESPN. The anticipated SEC Player of the Year contender for the upcoming season was released from jail midday and is no longer on the list as an inmate in the jail's log, the outlet reported. The incident comes just weeks after Pettiford withdrew from the NBA draft to rejoin the Tigers for his sophomore season, looking to prove he is ready for the next level. In the past, Pearl has applauded Pettiford's team-player mentality when it came to accepting his place and playing time among a team of veterans.
