Kolkata Rape Accused Drank Alcohol In College's Guard Room After Crime: Cops
Monojit Mishra, prime accused in the gangrape of a student at South Calcutta Law College, along with his accomplices spent considerable time drinking liquor inside the institute's guard room after committing the crime on June 25, before heading out for the night, an investigating officer said on Saturday.
According to the police, the trio - the other two being Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed - then went to a dhaba on EM Bypass for dinner before returning to their respective homes the next morning.
"After committing the crime, the three consumed alcohol in the guard's room and then asked security guard Pinaki Banerjee to keep his mouth shut about the incident," the officer added.
Investigation revealed that a day after the crime on June 26, Monojit, realising the gravity of the situation, contacted an "influential" person in Deshapriya Park, South Kolkata, who had previously helped him. However, sensing the 'mood' of the situation, the person advised Monojit to back off, police said.
The prime accused then sought help from his "mentors" to find an escape route, the officer said.
"Monojit went to various parts of the city including Rashbehari, Deshapriya Park, Gariahat, Fern Road, and Ballygunge Station Road, trying to meet his mentors. Mobile tower data also indicated that he visited someone near Karaya police station," the officer added.
The probe also revealed that Monojit and the other two had planned the entire matter long ago, the officer claimed.
Call Detail Records (CDR) showed multiple conversations among the three in the days leading up to the June 25 incident, the officer added.

Kolkata: Cops probing the law college gang-rape case, say they have enough evidence for a watertight case, even as they plan to appeal for three more days of police custody for all four accused to strengthen the case when they are produced before Alipore court on Tuesday. The four — Monojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed, Pramit Mukhopadhyay and college security guard Pinaki Banerjee — have been in police custody for 11 days. Investigators said extending custody will allow them to further strengthen the case with additional evidence and corroborative statements. "We appealed for the full term of police custody period when they were produced before this court last week. Depending on the progress of the probe, we will decide on Tuesday whether we will seek an extension of the police custody period, as we can still ask for at least three days of custody before the magistrate sends them to jail," said Sourin Ghoshal, public prosecutor at Alipore court. CCTV footage from the college and a nearby medical shop, as well as the mobile tower data, align with the survivor's version of events. The survivor's medical report, which notes injuries consistent with her complaint, has also been submitted. Police have detained a second security guard who was on duty on the evening of June 25. This guard reportedly left the campus around 8.25 pm — close to the time Zaib stepped out to purchase an inhaler for the survivor. Kolkata law college rape accused Monojit Mishra held key administrative post despite pending criminal charges, reveals notice
Fresh questions are being raised about the administrative practices at the Kolkata law college where a student was allegedly raped, with official documents revealing that Monojit Mishra, the prime accused, was designated as a student contact point despite having at least 11 criminal cases, including four for molestation, pending against him. An August 13, 2024, notice bearing the college's official seal directed students to channel their college-related queries through Monojit Mishra. 'Students of all semesters are hereby informed that any query related to students dealings of the college kindly contact to 1. Mr. Monojit Mishra (office staff) mob : 2. Mr. Pallab Adhikary (office staff) till further notice,' read the notice purportedly issued by the college vice-principal.
