Jets Predicted To Trade For $180 Million QB And Dump Justin Fields
The New York Jets just got done investing $40 million over two years to acquire Justin Fields.
The Jets also just got done saying goodbye to an elderly QB in Aaron Rodgers.

But now comes the suggestion that the new regime could undo everything ... and redo everything.
Fields is a young first-round talent who last year with the Pittsburgh Steelers in limited time threw for 1,106 yards and five touchdowns and one interception, while adding 289 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
Oh, and he helped the Steelers win.
Can he bring the same athleticism to New York? Can new coach Aaron Glenn's staff refine his work and make him a better passer?
That's the plan ... though Bleacher Report has other ideas as it predicts that the Jets will trade for Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins.

B/R writes that New York "has a considerable amount of salary-cap space and could well give up on Justin Fields by November. If the increasingly desperate Jets are competitive in spite of Fields at that stage, dealing for an established veteran from the NFC could make some sense."
Yeah, but ... nah.
Cousins is a backup in Atlanta; they'd love to find a path to giving him away ... but his $180 million contract is an albatross. So, by the way, was his 2024 performance, as he tossed 18 touchdowns, to an NFL-worst 16 interceptions.
Why would New York want to pay for that?
And if the Jets are still "competitive'' before the in-season NFL trade deadline of Nov. 4? Why would they give up on Fields - the QB who likely helped get them there?

Cousins has made four Pro Bowl appearances. But like now-Steelers vet Rodgers, 41, who has four NFL MVPs to his credit? Those things happened a long time ago.
And the Jets don't need to go back to that future.

The New York Giants wrapped up their first week of training camp on Sunday under overcast East Rutherford skies and with their shells on. There were many highs and lows throughout the week, but more reasons for optimism than pessimism. OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys signed tight end Jake Ferguson to a four-year, $52 million extension Sunday. The deal includes a $12 million signing bonus. A fourth-round pick in 2022, Ferguson is entering the final year of his rookie deal. He had 59 catches for 494 yards but did not have a touchdown reception last season.
