Simon Cowell to star in new Netflix docu-series

Perth Now18-07-2025
Simon Cowell is set to star in a new reality show for Netflix.
The 65-year-old music mogul - who has enjoyed huge success with TV shows like The X Factor and America's Got Talent - has joined forces with the streaming giant to create Simon Cowell: The Next Act, a docu-series that will launch later this year.
The logline for the show reads: "What Simon says, goes. And what Simon's saying right now is that the world is in serious need of its next boy band sensation.
"Music mogul and record executive Simon Cowell has single-handedly created some of the biggest music superstars in the world. In the brand-new docuseries Simon Cowell: The Next Act, launching in Dec. 2025, cameras follow him as he sets out to do it once again. From raw open casting calls to the release of the group's debut single, this is an all-access pass for viewers to catch every moment of Cowell's next chapter. Will he strike gold and break industry records once again?"
The docu-series promises to give viewers an "intimate" look at Simon's approach to business.
The music mogul has already enjoyed huge success with the likes of One Direction and Fifth Harmony, and Simon is now keen to find the next big band.
The logline continues: "Reality and music fans alike have watched Cowell build acclaimed bands on television many times before. Since 2001, he has appeared as a judge on several music reality competition series including Pop Idol, American Idol, The X Factor and The X Factor UK, Britain's Got Talent, and America's Got Talent. On these shows, he became infamous for his snarky remarks and harsh critiques. Now, however, viewers will get an even more intimate look at Cowell's process and unparalleled ability to identify and foster talent.
"Through his production company, Syco Entertainment, he has launched the careers of notable pop groups like One Direction, Little Mix, and Fifth Harmony. He also signed successful boy bands like Westlife, PrettyMuch, and CNCO to his record label Syco Music, which Cowell established as a division of Syco Entertainment in 2002 and sold as a wholly-owned subsidiary to Sony Music in 2020. Who will be the next group to join the ranks of these beloved bands?"

Kelly Clarkson sells music catalogue to investment firm

Kelly Clarkson has sold a portion of her music catalogue to an investment company. The 43-year-old pop star has decided to sell some of her most acclaimed and recognisable hits, including Since U Been Gone, Because of You, Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You), and Behind These Hazel Eyes, to HarbourView Equity Partners. Kelly said in a statement: "My music is such a huge part of my journey – not just professionally, but personally. Knowing these songs will continue to be heard and discovered by new generations means everything to me. I'm grateful to HarbourView for valuing and supporting this catalogue the way they do." HarbourView's investment strategy is focused on the music, sports, media and entertainment industries. And Sherrese Clarke, the founder and CEO of HarbourView Equity Partners, is thrilled to have struck a deal with Kelly. Sherrese explained: "Kelly Clarkson is a one-of-a-kind artist whose voice and songwriting have left a permanent mark on music and pop culture. In addition to her musical genius, Kelly is a multi-hyphenate in entertainment, which is very aligned with our platform at HarbourView which invests across the broad entertainment segment. "Her catalogue is filled with anthems that have defined moments for millions of people. We're thrilled to partner with Kelly and help ensure these songs continue resonating for decades to come." Kelly became the inaugural winner of American Idol back in 2002. However, the pop star recently claimed that she didn't realise American Idol was a TV show prior to auditioning. The chart-topping pop star said on the Not Gonna Lie podcast: "For all of us in that first season, we literally didn't ... I didn't even know it was a TV show until my third audition. "Like, we were literally trying to pay our bills. We're like, 'Oh, this might work. I might meet someone or whatever.' Nobody knew it was gonna amount to anything. "We were literally, like, kids - you know, 19 years old just trying to pay my electric bill y'all. You know, and afford the deductible on my car that was bashed in that I couldn't afford. So it was a different thing."

'Bless you': Sharon Osbourne reacts to Gavin Rossdale's Ozzy Osbourne tribute

Sharon Osbourne has reacted to Gavin Rossdale's tribute to Ozzy Osbourne. The 72-year-old star made her first public comment since the passing of the Black Sabbath icon at the age of 76 on Tuesday (22.07.25) as she replied to the Bush frontman's Instagram post in honour of the Paranoid rocker. Gavin captioned a photo of himself and Ozzy: "RIP OZZY - a great man - a true legend. I met Ozzy through Jack just a few times but he was so warm and kind and funny and I love that memory. Sending much love to his family at this difficult time. Rest in power." Sharon responded: "Bless you." The former America's Got Talent judge had shared a family statement with her kids Aimee, 41, Kelly, 40, and Jack, 39, announcing the sad news of Ozzy's death. It read: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. "He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time." Tributes to Ozzy poured in from music luminaries following his passing, with Sir Elton John describing the star as "a dear friend and huge trailblazer". The Rocketman singer posted on Instagram: "He was a dear friend and a huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods. He was also one of the funniest people I've ever met. I will miss him dearly. To Sharon and the family, I send my condolences and love." Ozzy's death comes just weeks after he played a farewell gig with Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and Terence 'Geezer' Butler at Villa Park in his home city of Birmingham and the trio all shared tributes to the heavy metal pioneer. Butler wrote on Instagram: "Thanks for all those years - we had some great fun. "Four kids from Aston - who'd have thought, eh? So glad we got to do it one more time, back in Aston. Love you." Guitarist Iommi added: "It's just such heartbreaking news that I can't really find the words, there won't be another like him. Geezer, Bill and myself have lost our brother." Ward posted on social media: "Where will I find you now? In the memories, our unspoken embraces, our missed phone calls... no, you're forever in my heart."

The siblings behind Via Porta open an Italian-inspired cafe in Melbourne's leafy north-east

Previous SlideNext Slide Cafe$$$$ The latest venue by siblings Sarah, Simon, Ryan and Jonathan Cosentino (Via Porta) has opened on a quiet strip of shops on Waterdale Road in Ivanhoe. Its name honours their mother, Lucia, who instilled in them a love of food and hospitality. But it also translates to 'light' in their native Italian. The warm and welcoming eatery with its large open kitchen is inspired by the Cosentinos' upbringing, including the homely pastas that graced the family table. The menu includes a punchy puttanesca and 'nonna's' bolognese. But there are also fresh ideas on show. Chicken schnitzel showered in parmesan comes with a sidecar of vodka-tomato sauce. Ricotta hotcakes served with maple syrup, mascarpone and blueberry compote are 'like a hybrid between your standard pancake and your Japanese pancake'. A few Via Porta favourites are also in the mix. There are fried eggs in spicy all'arrabbiata-inspired sugo; crab spaghetti with fermented chilli and lemon crumb; and doorstopper French toast, made of croissant dough that's baked in a loaf tin then topped with poached pears, almond brittle, caramel sauce and creme anglaise.
